Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics

Oh! Edited to add the Finnish Women's team got Bronze! Way to go! :D

Congrats to the Finnish team for winning Bronze :)

and

Canada gets another Gold Medal :)

the Women's hockey team has won their 3 Gold medal beating the Americans 2-0 :)

Go Canada Go

Woohoo! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :D I'm so proud of our girls right now!

I felt bad for that American team though. Some of them looked downright miserable. It must be tough to have to get the silver immediately after losing. Meh, that would suck.

Now let's hope the men can follow suit because truthfully, it's mostly the women getting us our medals!

Actually, I think they're blowing that way out of proportion. I mean, they were celebrating on the ice they own now for Pete's sake. It's not like they had male strippers and whipped cream going on- they wanted to celebrate where it really meant something. I don't have a problem with it. Now the guy who had chicks kissing the medal that was wrapped around his waist... erm... that's a little less classy! Kind of funny, and not surprising from a young, adrenalized dude, but still a little less appropriate. At least in public!

I think guzzling alcohol and puffing away on cigars was quite enough; no strippers and whipped cream were needed to push this over the line. That's not what the Olympics are about and the ladies showed a complete lack of respect and class. Personally I think it was highly inappropriate and I'd be saying the same thing if the US women had won on home ice and done the exact same thing. I wonder how many Canadians would be saying it was OK if the US team did the same thing in the reverse situation?

Well, this Canadian wouldn't have minded. ;)

It was a fun celebration, and a lot of my friends (from various walks of life) just found it amusing. I think these sports become a little too intense if you don't learn to relax and enjoy yourselves once in a while. C'mon, puffing on cigars and drinking champagne?!! I bet Schwartzenegger would approve.

Maybe thats why the powers that be might not be happy, I mean really how entertaining is the other pic compared to this one... :p
oh-ta shutting up now.

BTW for the purpose I didn't post that article because I felt personally any lack of class it was just news, it doesn't bother me if it was Canadians, US, etc, etc, etc. Sadly I kinda found it funny. *hangs head in shame* :wtf:

I think you secretly have a soft spot for us because of your undying love of Hugh Dillon, D.

All I know is the energy in my office right now is crazy. Everyone is all wired up about tonight's game against Slovakia. The Czech guy in the coffee shop (he's like my European commentator, vicariously! ) said he's going to root for Slovakia, but he thinks Canada is the better team and will most likely win.

I'm so stressed! Go Canada! :D

Last night's figure skating was amazing- Yu-Na's performance was just fantastic! She totally deserved to get the gold. And of course I was very pleased to see Joannie get a bronze. I managed not to have any tears until she shed a couple on the podium. Very emotional moment, but awesome.

Oh. My. God.

half of the 1st perioid and 6-0

Now I don't even have to cry like in last olympics.

Professionals. My ass.

I somehow highly doubt that our coach is having a long career....

The Winter Olympics is dominating our daily newspaper as well, front page:bolian:

CANADA MAKES IT A THREEPEAT
Vancouver, British Columbia. They ambled back onto the ice an hour after the medal ceremony, swigging champagne and beer and smoking cigars. While Meghan Agosta and Marie-Philip Poulin posed for pictures with goofy grins, Rebecca Johnston tried to drive the ice-resurfacing machine. Life is sweet when there's a gold medal hanging from your neck in your home rink. Poulin scored two goals, Shannon Azabados made 28 saves, and Canada rolled through it's American rivals 2-0, to win the gold medal in women's hockey for the third straight night Thursday in front of a raucous Vancouver crowd ringing cowbells and frantically waving thousands of maple leaf flags. After Poulin's two first-period scores, the Canadians dominated every aspect of the biggest game in this young sport, earning their 15th straight Olympic victory. When time expired and the Canadians skated into a massive pile-up near their goal, several cheering fans threw flags over the glass to the players who wrapped them around their shoulders like superheroes' capes. "I looked up in the stands and saw a sign that said PROUD TO BE CANADIAN and said "that's what am today" Szabados said. "My teamates were unbeliveable today, we played a great game, and this is an incredible moment" Playing with a consistency and passion, Canada remained unbeaten at the Olympics since 1998, when the Americans won the first women's gold! GOOD JOB:bolian:

ON THE ICE, KIM REIGNS SUPREME
All that pressure, all those expectations Kim Yu-na could feel the weight on her dainty shoulders. The "Queen" took it all in and delivered royally. A gold medal, and a world record. A women's figure skating performance that likely wll be remembered as one of the best of all time. The South Korean soared the the Olympic gold medal Thursday night scoring a world-record 228.56 points shattering her previous mark by more than 18 points. It's South Korea's first medal at the Winter Olympics in a sport other than speed-skating. Even Kim seemed dazzled by the show and gasped when she saw the monsterous score. Her coach Brian Orser gave a Rocky type victory pump, shaking his fists over each shoulder. "I can't believe this day has finally clome for me" Kim said. The 19-year-old grinned as she hopped up to the top spot on the podium, tugging at the bottome of her dress. When the GOLD medal was slipped over her head, she kissed both sides and held it up. her lip quivered when the South Korean anthem began, and them came the tears. "I'm very very happy". Longtime rival Nao Asada, of Japan, won the Silver medal, but it was no contest-even with Asada landing both her triple axels witha double loop. Joannie Rochette, skating four days after the sudden death of her mother, won the Bronze, giving Canada it's first women's medal since Liz Manley's silver in 1988~

my Ducky friend when I saw the score I was thinking about you. I said to myself 'Ducky is not going to be a happy camper here' I hope they can have a Finnish Miracle On Ice and come back and win the game :)

Go Canada Go

Yeah, I was thinking that too. The poor Duck. Hey, but a bronze in the women's is nothing to sneeze about. That was a great job. A friend of mine was at the bronze game and she actually got tears in her eyes when the Finns won... and she's Canadian! I think it was just a really valiant effort by both, and an awesome game all round.

In other news, as I was waiting for my Japanese food to be ready (taking away), I noticed Alexander Ovechkin and a couple friends sitting right beside me, eating. Whoh. He's a good sized kid. And stern looking. The best part was when the hockey highlights came on the restaurant TV and they showed the Russia game and the words, "The Russian bear has been sent into hibernation"! Hah. I wonder if he choked on whatever he was eating at that moment!
