Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy
It will likely end up being the number one scripted show, yeah.
What Grey's does is rather interesting. For instance, in their first episode, they were not simply content with beating CSI - they had to add together their Thursday and Friday numbers and said that "32 million people agreed".
They then said that they were the highest-rated 18-49 show. True, but still misleading people into thinking they were just plain number one because of the importance of that demographic.
Now having said all of this, Nielsen deals in the business of ratings. I never chose to post ratings here because I think it's a little false to say that one group of people are worth more than others when it comes to being a fan of the show. Demographics and so on are important for advertisers, not for fans.
So in terms of ratings, I have no doubt that Grey's is currently the number one scripted show. So for CSI to regain that title, they will have to pull further ahead than they're doing now.
But purely audience-wise, yes, if CSI continues down this path they will be the number one scripted show for 2006-2007.
I could never totally abandon Izzie and George, and I did love Grey's, but I think it's gone downhill this season simply from going in circles, and it looks like a lot of the fans, according to the ratings, kind of feel the same. Whereas with CSI, the fans who chose not to watch the premiere have, on average, continued to stay away, while at the same time it seems that the fans who DID are satisfied. No way I can prove that, but it's what averages might infer.
And yet Grey's get's to run around touting itself as Thursday's #1 show. LAME.
But does this mean that Nielson will consider CSI #1 this year (if things don't change the rest of the season)?

Personally, I love Grey's, and I'm not afraid to admit it. But CSI is still my #1
