Chapter Fourteen: Movie Night in the Hospital
Dawn and Greg were watching a movie in Dawn's hospital room. It was a scary movie. "Run, stupid! Don't just stand there! Run!" Dawn shouted at the tv. "Why do they always stand there like knots on a freaking log? I just don't get that!"
Greg chuckled at his wife. "They do that because that's how they're written."
"Smart ass!" She laughed. "Oh, great! Long, dark hallway... that can't be good." She said, looking at the screen again. "Ah!" She screamed and jumped, startled as something jumped out at the person on the movie. "Ow!" She said, grabbing her side.
"Okay, that's enough." Greg said, grabbing the remote and turning the movie off.
"Greg! I want to watch the rest of that!" She protested.
"You can when you're better."
"But, it's gonna bug me when I have to wonder what happened next until I can watch it again. It'll be too long. I can't stand being in suspense."
"I'm sorry, honey." He said. "But, I can't risk you hurting yourself worse."
"But, Greg!" She pouted.
"Don't pout, Dawn... and behave!" He told her.
"Oh, what are you going to do if I don't behave?" She asked, playfully.
He smirked and raised an eyebrow, contemplating the answer to her question. Several people came into the room to visit Dawn, rescuing Greg from having to answer her question.
"Hey, Dawn." Catherine said. "How are you feeling?"
"I was fine until Greg turned off the movie I was watching." She said, crossing her arms across her chest and sticking her lip out.
"Greg, why did you do that?" Ryan asked.
"It was a scary movie and she screamed and jumped and it was hurting her to do that. So, I turned it off so she wouldn't further injure herself. And now she's pouting about it and all upset with me. I can't win for losing, cuz."
Ryan laughed, but it was Nick who spoke. "Dawnie, you do know that it's for your own good, right?"
"But, Nicky... it was just getting good. I wanted to see what happened to the girl who went down that long, dark hallway."
"Well, I'll tell you what happened." Nicky said. "If she wasn't the main star of the movie, then she probably gets killed."
"Well, thanks for ruining it, Nicky!" She mock-pouted.
Wendy picked up the DVD case and looked at it. "I've seen this movie." She said. "I have an idea on how you can finish it tonight... that is if Greg and Nick approve."
"What's your idea, Wendy?" Greg asked.
"You'd be open to it?" Dawn inquired.
"Sure." He said. "I don't like it when you're mad at me." He said with a mock-pout.
"More like a teensy-weensy bit annoyed... no... more like aggravated. Whichever is the lesser of the two." Dawn told him.
"So, what's your idea, Wendy?" Greg asked again. "And by the way, this time if it doesn't work, you're being the bad guy, Nick."
"Hey!" Nick said. "Why me?"
"Cause you don't have to live with her." Catherine said with a laugh.
"Okay, my idea is that we can watch it now and I'll tell you when the scary parts are coming up." Wendy said. "That way, you'll be prepared and maybe you won't jump or scream."
"Okay." Greg said. Everyone sat down and Greg turned the movie back on to the spot they left off on.
After a few minutes, Wendy turned to Dawn. "Okay, right here in about half a minute, something is going to jump out at her. Don't scream, don't jump... know it's coming. It's gonna come out of that door right there on the left."
Despite knowing it was coming, when it did Dawn still couldn't help but jump. "Ah!" She screamed. "Ow!"
Greg tossed Nick the remote. "Well, that didn't work." Nick said. "One more chance, Dawnie."
"Okay, something's going to happen right here. She opens the window and something jumps out at her, but it's just a cat." Wendy said. Well, that passed without any trouble. "Okay, now she's gonna open the closet and something's in there. Get ready."
"This is like a really weird episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000." Hodges said.
"Shut up, Hodges!" Wendy told him. He looked dejected.
"Ah!" Dawn jumped and screamed. "Ouch!"
"That's it, Dawnie." Nick said. "You're done." He clicked off the tv. "And NO pouting, young lady!"
"Babe, I'm gonna go to the house and pick up some stuff for you, okay?" Greg told Dawn.
"Okay."
"I'll be back soon. I love you."
"Love you too." She said and he kissed her.
"Hold up, Greg." Nick said. "I'll go with you."
"Ryan," Greg started, walking toward his cousin. "In case I forgot to say it before, thank you."
"For what, Greg?" Ryan inquired.
"For saving Dawn." He hugged him. "And please don't let her turn that movie back on." He whispered.
"I promise I won't."
"Hey, Cath," Nick said, "don't let Dawnie turn that movie back on."
"I won't."
"Thanks." He walked over to Dawn's bed. "You behave!" He told his sister, kissing her forehead.
Greg walked back over to Dawn's bed. "Anything in particular you want that I don't already know about?"
"The one thing I want most I can't have." She said.
He sighed. "Dawn, I promise you can finish the movie when you're better."
"I'm not talking about the movie, Greg." She told him.
"Then what is it?"
"We're still newlyweds, Greg." She said quietly. "What I want is to be at home in bed with you."
"I know, honey... me too, but until your ribs heal..."
"I know, but it still sucks."
"I know, sweetheart. I love you."
"I love you too."
"I won't be long." He kissed her.
"Do that again please." She said and he kissed her again. "More." He smiled, kissing her again. He moved away from the bed, but then came back to kiss her again, this time longer. He and Nick left the room.

Greg was gathering up some things for Dawn. Nick was in the kitchen getting something to drink. Greg picked up Dawn's notebook, knowing she'd want that to write in. A piece of paper fell out of the notebook and onto the floor. Greg bent down to pick it up. His curiousity got the best of him and he started to read it.
This poem/song is dedicated to my wonderful loving, gorgeous husband. I love you more than you'll ever know.
"Safe In Your Love"
Your love is like heavenly flares
Burning into me, nothing can compare
Your love is pure and it is true
You're always here when I need you
You're really quite the charmer
Like a knight in shining armor
I feel so safe in your love
Baby, we fit like a glove
When you hold me in your embrace
All doubts are erased
All my fears disappear
Whenever you are near
All the pain is washed away
Cause with you I am safe
No more tears
When you are here
I feel so safe in your embrace
Safe in your love
In your arms
Safe with you.
Tears filled Greg's eyes. He loved his wife more than anything in the world. She had written him a beautiful poem with beautiful words. He couldn't help but think about how close he had came to losing her. Those thoughts were overwhelming and his emotions took over. He slid down on the floor and let the tears flow like rain.
Nick wondered what was taking Greg so long. He walked down the hallway to the door of Greg and Dawn's bedroom. He saw Greg sitting on the floor and he heard him crying. He walked into the room "Greg?"
Greg looked up. "Hey."
"What's wrong?"
"We almost lost her today, Nick."
Nick walked further into the room and sat down beside Greg. "But, we didn't. She's going to be just fine."
"It scared me, Nick. The thought of being without her terrified me. I don't think I could go on if I lost her."
"But, you didn't, Greg. She's okay. And you two are going to live a long, happy life together. You're going to someday have kids and then much later, grandkids. Trust me, you and my sister... you're going to grow old together... the way it should be. Nothing is going to happen to either of you... not as long as I'm alive." He wrapped an arm around Greg's shoulder, giving him a quick hug. "Come on, let's go back to the hospital." They got up from the floor and walked out of the room with all the stuff for Dawn.
