"Acting On Impulse and Love"- A CSI: LV story (Greg centered)

Chapter Seven : More Bad News

Kyle was stunned into silence by the news that his Dad had given him. Lindsey instinctively put her hand on Kyle's shoulder to comfort him.

Kyle finally spoke. "What happened, Dad?"

"Frank said that it appeared that someone had cut the brakes on her car."

"Who would do that?" Catherine asked.

"It was Ron wasn't it?" Kyle asked.

"I don't know yet, son. If I had to guess, I'd say yes. I had a feeling that he was after her money. I tried to tell her that, but..."

"She didn't believe you." Kyle finished.

"That's right, she didn't. Listen to me, son..." Horatio paused.

"What is it, Dad?"

"I'd like you to stay here in Vegas until this is sorted out. If it was Ron and he does want her money then you stand in the way of his getting it."

"Wait." Cath said. "How can Ron get her money if he was just her boyfriend?"

"Yeah, how can he, Dad?"

"Natalia said that she found out that Ron and Julia got married a few days ago."

"She didn't tell me that." Kyle said.

"They went to the justice of the peace." Horatio looked at Kyle. "Will you stay here for now? I'd like to make sure that you're as safe as possible."

"Okay, Dad. I'll stay."

"Thank you."

Eric and Calleigh knocked on the door of Catherine's house. Catherine opened the door for them and let them inside. "Hi, you two."

"Hi, Kyle." Calleigh smiled at the boy.

"Hi." Kyle replied.

"I'm sorry about your Mom." Calleigh said and Kyle just nodded.

"H," Eric started, "we just connected the victim from earlier tonight (down the street) to someone in Miami."

"Someone I know?"

"Yes."

"Ron Saris?"

"Yes, but there is more."

"Okay."

"Some of the bomb pieces match those found in the McKeane case."

"So, the two cases could be linked."

"Yes, they could be. I doubt it's just a coincidence."

"Well, as I heard once," Calleigh said, "there are two things I don't believe in: Coincidences and Leprechauns." Calleigh smiled.

"My sister has used that quote before." Nick said. "She said it was from Buffy."

"I never watched that show, but my friend's niece did. I've heard her say it before." Calleigh told him.

"My sister was obsessed with the show." Nick laughed. "Whenever she was in a situation where a Buffy quote would fit, she'd use it."

"Eric, do you think that Ron Saris had something to do with McKeane's death?"

"I don't know, H. It's possible."

"So, he could also be involved in Warrick's death." Catherine said.

"He could be." Eric told her. "We just don't have enough to go on at this point."

~ ~ ~

Dawn hung up the phone as Greg walked into the room drying his hair with a towel. "Hey, I thought you were going to join me in the shower." He said.

"Sorry." She said. "The phone rang."

"Oh."

"It was Nick. He said there was a car not far from Catherine's place that blew up."

"Is everyone okay?"

"Everyone but the guy in the car." She answered. "Nick said that Eric told Horatio that the parts of that bomb matched the ones from McKeane's car. The second victim is somehow connected to Horatio's son Kyle's stepdad."

"Horatio has a son?"

"Yes, he's about Lindsey's age. Nick said that Lindsey's taken a liking to him. She said he's cute."

Greg laughed. "Poor Catherine."

"Horatio had to tell Kyle that his Mom is dead."

"Poor kid. What happened?"

"Her brakes were cut. Horatio thinks that Kyle's stepdad did it or had it done because he wants Julia's money. Now there is only one person that stands in the way of his getting the money."

"The kid."

"Right. Horatio told Kyle to stay in Vegas for now so that he'll be safer."

"That's probably wise."

(end of chapter)

Great update. It will be intersting to see how it all unfolds.

It will also be intersting to see if Kyle and Lindsey become more than friends.

I think Kyle and Lindsey would look cute together. I'd make a banner, but I don't have any pics of Kyle or of Lindsey (I know she's one of the Panabaker's, but not sure which one... I wanna say it's Kay).

Oh and in the next chapter, there's gonna be a surprise for Calleigh. :)

I do recall a quote on one Buffy ep about leprechauns not existing but not the specific one you mentioned. Do you recall the ep your quote's from?

Not offhand. I was thinking it was maybe one of the Halloween eps, but I could be wrong.

Chapter Eight: Surprise, Surprise

Calleigh thought back to the day that she got kidnapped by those guys who wanted her to prove that they didn't kill someone. She thought about afterward when Eric refused to let her go home alone. She cared about him as a friend, but she knew that he liked her more than that. She didn't return his feelings, but didn't want to hurt him by telling him that. She didn't know what she'd do once they got to her house. Luckily for her, she didn't have to think about it.

When she returned home, her Dad was there waiting for her. Calleigh quickly got out of the vehicle. "Dad!" She said.

"Calleigh!" He said, hugging her. "Are you okay? I heard what happened."

"I'm fine, Dad."

"Is it okay if I stay here with you tonight?" Duke asked.

"That's fine, Dad." She walked over to Delko who was standing just outside the Hummer. "Eric, you don't have to stay. My Dad is going to stay."

"Oh, okay." Eric said.

Calleigh didn't miss the disappointment in his eyes. "Eric?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks." She said, hugging him.

"Sure." He replied and she kissed his cheek. "See you later."

"Yeah." She said as he got in the Hummer and pulled out of the driveway.

Several minutes after Eric left, Jake pulled up in Calleigh's driveway. He walked up to the door and knocked. Calleigh opened the door. "Jake!"

"Hi, Calleigh. I just wanted to make sure you were okay after what happened."

"I'm fine, Jake. Would you like to come inside?"

"Sure." He said, walking inside. That was the day that Calleigh and Jake had gotten back together (again). They decided that they didn't care what Stetler said. If he gave them crap about their relationship, they'd bring up his past relationship with Yelina.

Calleigh had gone out to eat with Greg and Dawn. Dawn and Calleigh had hit it off and seemed to be best friends already. They each enjoyed the other's company. "I'm sorry if you feel awkward, Calleigh." Dawn said. Greg had gone to the restroom.

"No, I don't. Why would you think that?"

"I just didn't want you to feel like the third wheel or something."

"Not at all."

"Are you seeing anyone? If you don't mind my asking."

"Actually, yeah, I am. His name is Jake. He's a cop."

"Oh. Is he cute?"

"Of course he's cute." She pulled out a picture and showed it to Dawn.

"Oh, he is cute." Dawn said.

"Who's cute?" Greg asked, rejoining them.

"Calleigh's boyfriend." Dawn answered. "She showed me a picture."

"Oh. Is he a criminalist too?"

"No, he's a cop." Calleigh answered.

Dawn looked up behind Calleigh and raised her eyebrows. "Uh, Calleigh?"

"What is it?"

"Either Jake has an identical twin, or he's here."

"Where?" Calleigh asked, turning around. She saw Jake walking toward their table. "Jake!"

"Hey, Calleigh."

"What are you doing here?" She asked with a smile.

"I had to talk to you."

"Is something wrong?"

"No, not at all."

"Jake, this is Greg and Dawn Sanders. They work at the Vegas Crime Lab."

"Well, I don't start till next week." Dawn said. "Greg and I just got married."

"Oh, congratulations." Jake said.

"Thanks." The couple said.

"They don't have a problem with you two working together and being married and all?" Jake inquired.

"Well, they probably would have if we had met at work, but we didn't. We met in college. I had a boyfriend then, but we ran into each other recently in L.A. It was just instant... we knew the minute we saw each other." Dawn said. "And we ended up getting married. We didn't even discuss our jobs, so neither of us knew that the other was a CSI."

"Oh."

"So, they'll just have to accept it. We've both extremely professional and can manage to separate our work life and our personal life. We're not going to let it affect our job."

"So, what did you need to talk about, Jake?" Calleigh asked.

"Well, there's something I need to ask you. And before I do, I just want you to know that I've thought about this for a time now. I always knew it would eventually come to this, but I've been a little afraid. I don't know why, but..." He paused. "I love you, Calleigh." He took her hands in his. "More than I ever thought possible to love anyone."

"Oh My Gosh!" Dawn whispered to Greg.

"What?" Greg whispered back.

"I think he's going to propose!" Dawn said quietly.

"Calleigh, it's you, it's always been you. I can't imagine my life without you. You make me a better man. I don't care if any of this sounds corny, it's how I feel. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened the box to show her the beautiful diamond ring inside. "Calleigh Duquesne, will you marry me?" He looked at her to gauge her reaction. "By the way, I did ask your father for you hand." He said. "Just so you know."

The four of them didn't see Eric and Horatio standing nearby. Eric did not look very happy when he realized that Calleigh and Jake must have been back together for a while. He watched to see what Calleigh's answer would be.

Calleigh looked at Dawn who was smiling at her. Calleigh looked back at Jake and saw the sincerity and love in his eyes. She didn't need to think about his question any further. She had her answer. "Yes, Jake." She said. "I will marry you."

Jake let out a breath he'd been holding in. He smiled, putting the ring on Calleigh's finger. She stood to her feet and he pulled her into his arms, kissing her.

Eric hung his head. He was happy that Calleigh was happy, but he was sad for himself. He had developed strong feelings for Calleigh. He had hoped she'd felt it to, but now he knew that was not the case. Calleigh loved Jake. She had always loved Jake and there was nothing that Eric could do to change that.

"I love you, Calleigh." Jake said as he held her.

"I love you too, Jake." She replied and he kissed her again.

"Congratulations, you two!" Dawn and Greg both said.

"I'm sorry, Eric." Horatio said, putting his hand on the younger man's shoulder.

"I just want her to be happy."

"It looks like she is, son."

"Yes, I guess so." He sighed. "So, should we go tell them what we found out?"

"No, not just yet. Let them have some time. We can handle this without them for right now." Horatio said. "Come on."

Sighing deeply, Eric walked with Horatio back to the Hummer.

Okay, I know this may seem a little corny, but I couldn't resist.

Chapter Nine: Coincidences

Greg picked up the ringing phone as Dawn continued to chat with Calleigh and Jake (the three of them were sitting at the dining room table). "Hello?" Greg answered.

"Hey, Greg. How are you, cuz?"

"Hey, Ry. I'm okay for the most part. My friend/co-worker's death was difficult, but at least I had Dawn here to help me through it."

"Dawn?"

"My wife."

"You got married?"

"Yep, a few days ago."

"Why didn't I get an invitation?"

"No one did. We didn't have a big wedding (but we're thinking about having one eventually). We just went to the courthouse in L.A."

"L.A.?"

"Yeah, I had a meeting with some publishers for my book. That went really well by the way."

"Well, congratulations on both accounts."

"Thanks. How are you doing?"

"I'm okay. You should come visit sometime soon."

"Why don't you come visit me? You could meet my wife."

"Well, I can't come anytime soon. I'm swamped with Horatio, Calleigh and Eric all being out of town."

"Huh?" Greg said, confused. "Wait... I thought you were a partolman."

He laughed. "Greg, I haven't been one for a few years now. Has it really been that long since we last spoke?"

"I guess it has. So, you're a CSI now?"

"Yes. You still a lab tech?"

Greg laughed. "Wow! It really has been a long time since we talked. No, I'm a CSI too."

"Oh. So, I take it you've met Horatio, Eric and Calleigh?"

"Yes, I have. As a matter of fact, Calleigh's here right now... with Jake."

"Jake's there?"

"Yeah."

"Could I talk to Calleigh?"

"Sure, hold on." Greg took the phone into the dining room. "Calleigh, my cousin would like to speak to you."

"Why does your cousin want to talk to me?" Calleigh inquired.

"Because my cousin in Ryan Wolfe."

"Really? That's so funny. I always thought you kind of reminded me of him." She took the phone. "Hi, Ryan. Guess what?"

"What?"

"I'm engaged!"

"You and Jake?"

"Yep!"

"Congratulations, Calleigh; that's great!"

"Thanks. What did you want to talk to me about?"

"Oh, I just wanted to get your opinion on this case I'm working on."

"Oh, okay. I'm all ears."

~ ~ ~

All the CSIs were sitting together at Catherine's house. Greg was the first one to speak. "So, did you connect this Saris guy to McKeane's death?"

"No, we didn't." Horatio said. "He's connected to the guy who planted the bombs in both McKeane's and the other man's cars, but..." Horatio paused with a sigh. "I know in my gut that Ron Saris is in this up to his ears, but I can't prove it."

"So, he gets away with everything again?" Calleigh said.

"For now. We'll get him eventually though. I will think of someway to prove he's dirty. It's only a matter of time."

"So, are we going back to Miami now, H?" Eric asked.

"Yes, we are." Horatio answered. "Catherine, I hate to ask this, but until we can this thing with Ron Saris solved..."

"Horatio, I don't think that it's a good idea for Kyle to stay at Catherine's house." Eric said. "He and Lindsey like each other. It could cause trouble."

"Could he stay with one of you?" Horatio inquired.

"He can crash at my place." Nick said. "I have some video games and stuff to keep him entertained. It'll be nice to have him around. All my brothers are older than me. I never had a younger brother."

"Okay, that's fine. Thank you, Nick."

"Sure, no problem. I'll keep him out of trouble."

"You mean he'll keep you out of trouble." Catherine teased and the others laughed.

(end of chapter)

===

Okay, there it is. I'm sorry its such a short chapter. I'll try to write more later. :)

Okay, I have most of Chapter Ten written. However, I need a little help from all of you on something. I have a karaoke scene where the three Miami team members (four if you count Jake as a team member lol and five if you count Kyle) and all of Vegas CSIs, Lindsey, lab techs, etc are going to sing karaoke. I have songs for some of them, but not all.

Here's who I have chosen songs for so far already:

Singles:

Hodges
Calleigh
Dawn
Catherine
Eric - what he is gonna sing is kind of for you, Mel. I'm sure it'll make more sense once you read the chapter. here's a hint: the reason has to do with your love of Roswell... not that this song was ever on Roswell, but... it'll make sense later, I promise. :)

Then, for round two, they draw names from a hat to pick their singing partner. Here's who is teaming with whom:

Dawn and Calleigh - have a song for them already
Hodges and Wendy- got theirs already
Nick and Greg - have a song for them already as well

Here's who I need team songs for:

Catherine & Grissom
Jake and Archie
Henry and Bobby
Brass and Doc Robbins
Horatio and Ecklie
Eric and Mandy
Dave (Doc Robbins' assistant) and Sophia
Kyle and Lindsey - remember these two are teens so they'd probably choose something kind of current and I don't know too many current songs that a teen boy might enjoy

I need songs for all of these people to sing by themselves too except for Hodges, Dawn, Catherine, Calleigh and Eric... No Madonna or Britney songs though (and please god not that rehab song by Amy Winehouse lol). And no American Idol stars' songs unless its one of the rockers (ie Bo, Chris) or either one of the Kellys. Or maybe Kat McPhee. I thinking that for Greg and Jake, since Greg just got married and Jake just got engaged, that they would sing something to their ladies. Kind of a rock song, but maybe a rock ballad or even a fast rock song. Greg would probably go more on the punk lines.

Okay, other than that, I have one more question:

I'm trying to decide rather or not to leave a cliffhanger in the next chapter or to resolve it at the end of the chapter. In any case, it probably wouldn't be more than a couple of days before I got the following chapter written, so the cliffhanger wouldn't be that long of a wait. What do you think? Should I or shouldn't I?

If you're curious as to the songs I've already chosen then:
Dawn is going to sing a song by Sherrie Austin. Which one, I haven't yet decided. It's between a couple. Catherine is going to sing "Just Another Picture To Burn" by Taylor Swift. Calleigh is going to sing "In My Red High Heels" by Kelly P (from American Idol... for some reason her actual last name escapes me at the moment lol I wanna say Pikerd, but I'm not sure lol). Hodges is going to sing "I can't make you love me" which Eric was thinking of singing, but didn't want to embarras Calleigh, so he choose a different song, which is a surprise for Mel, so I won't say that here cause she'll probably read this. Jake and Nick get to pick Calleigh and Dawn's team song. Jake wants "Take It Off" by the Donnas. Nick says no cause that's his baby sis and he doesn't want that image in his head. So, jake says "Girls Just wanna have fun" is too cliche. Nick wants "Walk Like An Egyptian" by the Bangles cause he likes to see Dawn do the Egyptian dance, but she tells him not to even think about it. The guys finally agree on "I Want You To Want Me" (the version from 10 things I hate about you). Catherine and Eric get to choose Nick and Greg's song. They choose to have them sing Poison's "Nothing But A Good Time". Hodges and Wendy will sing "I've Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher.

Okay, Mel. Here's a hint: The song has his character's name in the title. (His Roswell character that is). :)

Well, it's a song from the 80s (kind of pop rockish) by a guy who was on... I wanna say General Hospital. :D

I don't think I'm gonna get the chapter up tonight. I got invited to go Karaoke myself. Oh, the irony! :D It's now almost 2:30 and I have to be ready by 5:30. If I get all the housework done and get ready with enough time to type up the chapter, I'll do so, if not, it'll probably be tomorrow before I get it posted.

no problem :) I know I won't get the song lol I stink at 80s songs. And a lot of the TV for that matter. I was growing up then but was watching kids shows.

Chapter Ten: Karaoke Night

Before the Miami team left, everyone decided to get together one last time. The younger members of the group talked the others into going to a Karaoke place. Kyle and Lindsey went along as well. Everyone sang a song by themselves. Calleigh and Catherine had to talk Horatio and Grissom into it though.

Since the Karaoke place didn't have the Sherrie Austin song she wanted to sing, Dawn chose to sing Martina McBride's "Safe In The Arms Of Love". She winked at Greg while singing it. She finished her song and got off the stage, walking toward her husband. "Your turn, honey." She kissed him on the cheek and started to walk past him.

Greg gently grabbed hold of her hand. "Hey, hold on a second!" He put his hands against her face, stroking her cheeks with his thumbs as he leaned in to kiss her.

"Get a room!" Nick teased the couple.

Greg walked toward the stage and picked up the cordless microphone.

"I wonder what he'll pick." Hodges said.

"Ten to one it's a love song." Nick replied.

"Finally found the love of a lifetime." Greg sang, looking at Dawn. "Ooh, forever in my heart, I finally found the love of a lifetime."

"Ah, Firehouse." Cath said.

"I love that song!" Calleigh smiled.

Calleigh was up next. She sang "Red High Heels" by Kelly Pickler.

Catherine followed her singing "Picture to Burn" by Taylor Swift. "I hate that stupid ole pickup truck you never let me drive." Cath sang. "You're a redneck heartbreaker who's really bad at lying. Watch me strike a match on all our wasted time. As far as I'm concerned you're just another picture to burn. Burn, burn, burn baby burn."

Hodges went on the stage and began to sing. "Turn down the lights, turn down the bed. Turn down these voices inside my head."

"Oh, brother!" Nick said.

"Lay down with me. Tell me no lies." Hodges continued. "Just hold me close, don't patronize. Don't patronize me. Cause I can't make you love me if you don't. You can't make your heart feel something it won't."

Eric thought about singing that same song, but was afraid it would embarrass Calleigh, so he decided to sing something else. "Oh, I wish that I had Jesse's girl." He sang. "Where can I find a woman like that... like Jesse's girl. I want Jesse's girl."

Calleigh came up with an idea for round two. Everyone's name was put in a bowl and each person had to roll a die to see who had to choose a name from the bowl (to see who they would sing with). Dawn pulled Calleigh's name. Now two others had to be picked (by rolling a die) to choose their song. Jake and Nick got to do the honors.

Jake wanted them to sing "Take It Off" by the Donnas. Nick objected to that. "That's my baby sister. I don't need that image in my head."

"Well, Girls Just Want To Have Fun is kind of cliche for them to sing, right?" Jake said.

"They don't have that one anyway." Cath said, looking at the list of songs.

"I've got an idea." Nick said with a mischievous grin.

"Don't even think about it, Nicholas!" Dawn warned. "No Walk Like An Egyptian. I'm not a kid anymore. I don't do that dance anymore."

"Aw, sis!" Nick mock-pouted. "You're spoiling all my fun!"

"Too bad, so sad!" She stuck her tongue out at her brother. Greg immediately captured her tongue with his mouth and began to kiss her passionately.

"As I said before, get a room you two." Nick said.

Nick and Jake finally decided to have the girls sing "I Want You To Want Me" (the version from the movie Ten Things I Hate About You). Nick drew Greg's name. Catherine and Eric got to choose their song. They chose Poison's "Nothing But A Good Time".

Hodges pulled Wendy's name from the bowl, much to his delight. Calleigh and Horatio got to pick their song. They chose Sonny and Cher's "I've Got You Babe".

The rest of the teams were as follows: Catherine and Grissom who sang "It Takes Two"; Jake and Archie who sang "Should I Stay Or Should I Go"; Henry and Bobby who sang "Voodoo"; Brass and Doc Robbins who sang "Soul Man"; Horatio and Ecklie who sang "Sunglasses At Night" (chosen by Kyle and Lindsey); Eric and Mandy who sang "I've Had The Time Of My Life"; (Super)Dave and Sofia who sang "Don't You Want Me Baby" and Kyle and Lindsey who sang "Bring Me To Life".

~ ~ ~

"Keep in touch." Dawn told Calleigh. "And let us know when the wedding is."

"I will." The girls hugged.

"And tell my cousin to keep in touch." Greg said.

"Will do." Calleigh smiled.

"Your cousin?" Eric asked, not yet clued in.

"Ryan." Calleigh told Eric.

"Ryan Wolfe is your cousin?" Eric asked Greg.

"Yep!"

"It was nice meeting all of you." Jake said.

"Same here." Greg shook his hand. "I suspect we'll be seeing each other again. Our ladies seem to have hit it off pretty well."

"Hey, I have an idea." Dawn said.

"What's that, honey?" Greg asked.

"Well, when it's safe for Kyle to go back to Miami, maybe the two of us could take him. Then we can visit Calleigh and Jake as well as Ryan."

"Yeah, sure." Greg said. "We could do that on a weekend."

"Thanks for all your help." Grissom told Horatio.

"You... are welcome." Horatio replied, shaking Gil's hand. "Call if you ever need anything."

"And you may do the same."

"Sure will." They shook hands again.

~ ~ ~

Greg and Dawn were watching a rerun of "Home Improvement".

"What is it with Hollywood and naming neighbors Wilson?" Dawn said. "There's this and then Mr. Wilson on Dennis the Menace."

"And the volleyball on Cast Away." Greg said, which made Dawn laugh so hard that her eyes started to water. "Our neighbor's name is Wilson."

"Really?"

Greg chuckled. "Nope, just kidding." He clicked off the tv. "Come here, gorgeous." He pulled her toward him and kissed her.

~ ~ ~

Dawn and Greg were in a restaurant when shots started to ring out. Greg grabbed his wife and pulled her under the table in an attempt to shield them both from the bullets. When the chaos had subsided, Greg felt something wet and warm against his hand as he held onto Dawn.

He looked down and saw that Dawn was bleeding. "Dawn!" he exclaimed, grabbing a cloth napkin and putting it against her wound. "Hold on, baby." He said with tears in his eyes. She tried to talk. "Shh, don't try to talk, honey. Help is on the way." He held her hand in his. Her eyes started to close. "Dawn, no! Please stay with me!" He pleaded.

=======

You know, I wrote the whole thing about the Karaoke place not having the Sherrie Austin song (Dawn wanted to sing) a couple of nights ago. However as ironic as it is, last night when I was at the Karaoke place, I wanted to sing a Sherrie Austin song and they didn't have it. :cue Twilight Zone theme song:

BTW, Mel, the song that Eric sang is called "Jesse's Girl" by Rick Springfield. :)

Also, sorry that I didn't get this up earlier. I had to leave at 4:30 instead of 5:30 yesterday and I didn't get home till after 10:30 last night. I was too tired to mess with turning on the computer and all.
