The Soundbox--Speculations and Whatnots

I agree with Springmoon's theory on Hawkes having parent people skill issues. And good rationale. :D And he doesn't strike me as shy as being, well, socially inept (as what I'd call myself every now and then :D ).

I don't think Hawkes has socialisation issues - he seems to be perfectly willing to interact with people, and actually does it really well. His arson case, for example, or the girl with the teddy bear. Yes, he steps over the line on the arson case and is told off by Flack, but it seems to be from a willingness to help more than him being socially awkward. I always thought Hawkes came off as being quietly confident and at ease with himself, and I liked that about him. I actually think he handles people better than say, Danny, who can come off as rude. (Not that I don't like that, Danny's best moments come out of his grumpiness)

Let me see... he basically tells the victim's mother to call him, if she needs him. Flack tells him that that's his job, and Hawkes should be focusing on the case.

I definitely would like to know a little bit more about Hawkes' background. I think the fact that he was a prodigy probably could have raised many intriguing issues re: his family life, as a child/teenager, how his intelligence might have affected his relationships with his family and peers. Hopefully the writers throw us a bone or two re: Hawkes this coming season. (Hmmmm...I sense an email to TPTB at CSI NY coming on... )

Nice take on Hawkes, Lyn! I have to admit that 'socially inept' was a bit of a strong description when it came to him. But yeah, he does have that quiet confidence that I notice with some if not most geniuses. :)

Now that someone brought up "Corporate Warriors", what's everybody's take on Hawke's line with the teenage suspect who played chess with the dead boy? It kinda gave me the impression there was something behind that remark about mistaking talent for being gifted. Correct me if I'm wrong. Wonder how Hawkes saw himself as? It felt like he went through the same deal.

I think the writers gave up on giving them particulars. Left it to "life imitating art". But as vague as Hawkes' backstory, he the only one of the characters that we know the age.

I wish that there was more information on the CSI: New York characters. I mean, just for the case of knowing. We all know only little tidbits of information for each character. We don't know ages (with the exception of Hawkes) and we don't know that much backround, like location or personal life. I mean, we know a little bit about Mac, like he was married to Claire and she died on 9/11 and he used to live in Chicago. But when taken in context it's not really that much.

I just wish we knew more. Maybe we should compile information?

I'm hoping they give us at least two good, solid background tidbits apiece on every character, this season - at least enough to flesh them out, more. Hell, I'll even welcome background tidbits on Jane, and I don't even like her!

They've tackled the deep backstories so far. Especially with Danny. I think the only thing we don't know about that guy is whether he cooks for himself or not. Hhahahah....

^ Care to take a shot at it? From his comments in Heroes, he does appreciate good cooking. And that he hoped someone cook for him. So... it's either he doesn't cook at all, or he's a terrible one. :p

C'mon, give the guy some props. He's Italian after all. Lol. He likes fine food as well as attempting to say some food names (Corporate Warriors). Hahahahah....

He's in the lab or outside most of the time, I don't think he has time to cook. Typical bachelor in a bachelor's pad, take-out and carry-home meals. Hahahah.
