The Soundbox--Speculations and Whatnots

Catherine was supposed to have been raised in Montana, but the show sort of veered away from that -- it seems more that she was born and raised in Las Vegas, what with her mom being a showgirl and her dad, Sam Braun, being that big casino mogul there.

Bozeman, Montana is wonderful. I'm researching it for a fic I'm going to write and the pictures are so beautiful -- I kind of want to go there now, meet me a nice country boy and settle down. *pause* Just kidding. I think I'll stick with city boys and broken hearts.

I didn't like how during "Manhattan Manhunt" Lindsay was placed on trace and Hawkes got to work in the field. She's no rookie when it comes to being a CSI -- she's got more experience than him, and I thought by all rights she should've gotten to work that case hands on.

When I think about Lindsay's secret, I lean towards something Crossing Jordan-y. Like someone she loved (be it a close family member or a friend) was murdered and the case went cold. She became a CSI so she could find the answers, not just for other cases but also in hopes of solving that one case that eluded her. Just my two cents.

Just wanna say something, CSI:NY has the best "life imitating art" kind of thing between its actors and characters. Danny and Carmine being baseball players as well as musicians. Mac and Gary with the bass guitar. Flack and Eddie coming from a long line of police officers. Hill and Sheldon being so smart and all that.
<end of narration lol>

There's not much going on about Lindsey's 'past' so far so we have next to nothing to work with. It can veer to a Sara-ish storyline or yeah, Crossing Jordan-ish.

I just want to know how old they are.... all of them.

When we have no idea how old they are, I usually just go with the actor's ages. But lately I've been placing Flack at 27... *shrugs*

I think it's Carmine that came from a long line of police officers, but that's just me. His brother-in-law and dad, or somesuch.

Eddie as well. But his dad isn't a police officer because he has bad eyesight. In an article, it says that Eddie's proud of playing a cop on-screen.

Flack's pretty young vs the CSIs. So I reckon he's the youngest.

Flack and Danny would be around the same age -- I've always placed Flack as a bit older, even, if only by two years or so. I mean, it takes a while to get to Detective, I think.

And as for the rest -- it's kind of obvious that Mac and Stella are the oldest, they've been working together for about ten years. And I don't know about Hawkes and Lindsay, but I'd place Hawkes as older than Lindsay and Danny.

I think it depends on the police force. Some insist on a certain length of time on the beat before a cop can make detective. But of course Flack Senior could have helped Don along the way...whether he wanted the help or not.

Well, we know that Flack rode with Moran for 4years. Wikipedia gives a pretty good outine of NYPD ranks and such. What age are they when they graduated from the academy? How many years are they working in the force?

I'd definitely put Mac and Stella as the oldest, maybe 3 or 4 years apart. Late 30's.

Hawkes, anywhere from early to mid thirties.

Flack, Lindsay and Danny, late 20's, with 2 years between them.

I think you have to take an exam in order to be a detective with the NYPD, so age is somewhat relative.

Danny's at least 30 as Lindsay refered in jest to his 30th birthday party in the episode Bad Beat. I'd put him at around 31/2 and Lindsay about the same age, mainly because that's the approx age of the actors and I don't think that TPTB would cast people who look to be in their 30's to play people in their 20's. Stella I'd agree with as being in her late 30's, especially given that she's higher up the career ladder and has built up a good deal of experience, but I'd say that Mac was in his mid 40's given that he'd been in the Marines and in Beirut in '83 as more than just a new recruit, so I'd put him as about 46/47. And as for Flack, hmmm. He's tasty whatever his age is meant to be...

Yummy!
But I think TPTB got tired of making stories for 3CSI shows already that they left the simple, mediocre matters as it is. Character's age = Actor's age. Maybe like that?

D'you know, I'm trying to remember if they said the original guy they had to play Flack was older than Eddie or younger... Just curious really, but now I need to get out my S1 DVDs and see if they say. ;)

I'd say actors' ages are the right ballpark range for the characters, but there might be slight differences--namely with Flack and Lindsay. I can see Flack being older than Eddie, and I could easily see them having Lindsay be younger than Anna (since she just looks younger IMO, so if they were casting for a younger character it wouldn't have made any difference :p). But overall I'd say they're about the same ages as the actors. :)

Faylinn, I don't think they said on the DVD's, at least not in the interviews/commentaries that I checked out. More than once though it was mentioned that somebody else had been practically cast, and then Eddie walked in and they just 'fell in love with him' on the spot.

Not entirely on topic - but you can kind of see why they'd have that reaction, no?
