I went down to the auditions on Monday, with my friends coz one of them was auditioning, and I got to see the judges going in and had my picture took with Ferne Cotton! We did this thing for the Xtra Factor aswell so I might get on TV!

HE WASN'T THERE!! I was sooo annoyed coz he was the one that I wanted to see! My friend who's on the pic loves him sooo much and she was really sad that he wasn't there!

But, I'm hoping to audition next year so I told her that she could come with me, so if I get through to see the judges, she'll get to meet him!

So, on Sunday England and Wales become smokeless in enclosed public places. I'll be relieved, especially as at work the 'smoking area' is in the main canteen and the 'segregation' consists of a 2' piece of perspex hanging down from the ceiling!

I cant WAIT for the smoking ban in England! Im actually away when it comes out, too bad ;)
But I cant wait to tell people "you aint allowed to smoke here" or something. :p
I am seriously against smoking in public, I think its rude and should only be done inside your own home.
Ive had to put up with my dad smoking for 20 years and I am the one who suffers from it now, all these chest infections. Its more dangerous for me and if I get cancer then its his fault and I have never EVER smoked a cig.
Okay, ill stop ranting now. :p

OMG Gutted.com I'm glad I didn't go then  I know how you feel though, a couple of years ago I went down to watch A Big Brother eviction and I saw Davina obviously Russel, but NO DERMOT :( The only person I was arsed about seeing had gone after BBLB had finished

I'm thrilled about the smoking ban. I have smoking, always have. I'll revel in goin on a night out and not coming home stinking like a chimney

I'm really happy about the smoking ban as well! Mainly, because when you go out to someones birthday due or w/e, you know that you won't have to smell of smoke coz you're sat near someone who is smoking all night!

I think it will cut the number of smokers too, because the ban will make it even harder for people who smoke!

I'm glad the smoking ban is coming into force. There is nothing worse (or was nothing worse!) than going out for a meal and having people smoking near you when you're trying to eat. Talk about anti social!

I remember going to New York in January 2004 and, as they have a smoking ban there, people were huddled together outside of buildings and under special canopies that places had obviously set up for smokers. It was madness as it was -20c outside and the die hard smokers were still there! I kind of hope some places will have outside designated smoking areas and cigarette bins because it will be pretty horrid if, everytime I walk past a pub or restaurant, there are people smoking and littering outside.

A lot of smokers I know have said they will quit because of the ban, and I'd like to see how many actually manage it. :)

I've expierenced what its like in Ireland and Scotland and from what I've seen people seem to just get on with it But you do see some desperate smokers in the pissing down rain outside a club/pub.

I work for Licensing for my Local Authority so we have to participate in enforcing the ban. The amount of ear ache I've had on the phone the past few months has neared my snapping point. The amount of pubs and bars who have applied for alcohol comsuption to be allowed outside is rediculous. Hardly any of them will get it in the town centre as theyre in an 'alcohol ban area' but it doesn't stop them.

Time will tell how it goes, another 14 hours until Zero Hour

Oh yeah, I think this smoking ban has also made some people quit.
Alot of my family have quit because of it.
I really cannot wait to go out at night and not smell of horrible cigarettes when I come home. I hate smelling of it, my hair, my clothes, my skin. Blagh.
I also hope they have smoking areas as there is also nothing work than walking through a cloud of smoke to get somewhere.
They are all smoking at the college entrace where I am at and its dreadful..

I'm glad the ban is in, when i'm at work and people are smoking it makes me feel sick, it's worse especially after my mum got throat cancer, i'm very glad it's in, and I hope it helps make people give up as well.

I thought I'd bump this thread up to find out if anyone else felt the earth move last night? Sorry, bad pun. BBC News: Earthquake hits much of England.

It's quite sad in a way, because earthquakes cause so much damage and devastation in other parts of the world, and yet were are (mostly) very excited about them when they happen here.

I felt an earthquake back in 2002, but in my part of the UK (which is North Yorkshire) the one last night was pretty strong, actually really made the house shake, and was quite loud. It woke me and I did have a momentary panic wondering what had just happened. People were out in the streets checking what had happened (in dressing gowns, hilarious) and it's the main topic of conversation on the bus and at work this morning. Anyone else feel it?

Yes, I did, in Buckinghamshire. I was about to go to bed when the house suddenly shook, a couple of small pictures fell over and my cats went a bit loopy! They obviously sensed it, and were slightly unsettled even before it happened. I wondered why they were acting like that shortly before everything vibrated. I think most people in my road were asleep though, as there was no reaction outside, and my husband didn't feel it at all!
