Season 7 Ratings

^ Not bad, esp. for a holiday.

Hmm... not sure where to put this, but it kind of deals with ratings (I think).

CBS Shifts "Blue Bloods" time-slot

So if Blue Bloods is being moved (temporarily, they say) I wonder how/if this will affect NY's ratings. The Defenders will take over Medium's spot for the remainder of the season, and Blue Bloods will only be on a different time for (supposedly) four episodes.

Hm. Will be interesting.

I think the scheduling shifts we're to see in the second half of the season speak to the network trying to find slots to air its mid-season entrants, broadcast the runs of all its shows, and test possibilities in scheduling for next season.

Medium's cancellation was a near-given to open up a slot to start the tetris game. It would seem to be about an over-hyped & under-performing Defenders, a CM2 spin-off needing significant retooling and a strong schedule partner, testing Blue Bloods elsewhere in the schedule, and about getting a return on Chaos. None of the moves seem terribly risky or out of place, either.

I hope NY doesn't get lost in the shuffle, and ultimately benefits from the the network's schedule tinkering, getting some book-ends solidified. Guess we'll see.

Among the new entrants, the one I'm most curious about is Chaos, a show who's production history has certainly lived up to its name.

Other elements in some comments here, I've decided to chat about over in Ship Debate.

Blaming clowns is always a good idea. I'll also blame it on being the first week of the new year. People were probably still wrapping up holiday travel, parties and whatnot. I'll get worried if it becomes a trend.

 I think it's always safe to blame the clowns.

But yeah, I think being on up against football had an effect. I'm curious if not having Blue Bloods as a lead-out contributed to lower ratings as well, or if that would matter at all...

When they show a bunch of clowns I thought it's negative but DJE was in it so it's positive, which canceled-out but football came so all in all negative. :shifty:  I hope next week picks-up a lot!

Even with the NFL Playoffs with high-rated NFL Teams (Packers, Bears, and Colts), I'm not sure if football accounts for NY's ratings issues. Miami has the excuse of football overruns especially with the NFL Playoffs. Especially for me, I was far, FAR more inclined to watching the Seahawks at 7-9 play the 11-5 New Orleans Saints, especially the thrilling end that came about. Same with the Jets over the Colts. That Miami managed to muster 11.41 million viewers strikes me as an improvement over the previous episode.

Moving NY to Friday's is/was a really piss-poor move on their part. The sad awful truth is that they don't move TV Shows to Fridays to boost their ratings. They move them there to get rid of them since the primary demographics such as younger viewers and adults often tend to go out on Fridays, not to mention most movies open on Fridays as well. Unless they move CSI:NY back to Wednesdays as soon as possible, a season 8 at this point with the rating tumbling to 9.44 million, has become a much taller order. This could change though but the window's getting smaller with each passing week.

I agree. When I saw Miami's ratings from last night I thought, yeah football isn't NY's problem. I think it really is a shame that NY will probably get the axe first. I enjoy Miami but I will miss seeing Sinise on NY every week.

I figure CBS sees NY as disposable because so many other shows are set in NY. It really hampers its freshness on TV.

Football didn't have an impact on Miami this week. The two games you're talking about were played on Saturday and on Sunday the game on CBS was the early game and the late game on FOX was over long before Miami started. Comparing Miami's ratings to NY's ratings when NY WAS impacted by football makes no sense whatsoever.

Another point about Miami's success is that they have moved it from 9 to 8 to 7 and its fans are following it right along with CBS's indecision. That to me shows that Miami fans are a strong and loyal. Not that I'm complaining about NY fans, it's CBS's fault for moving it to Friday to die :(
