Season 7 Ratings

CBS aired two repeats of CSI:NY last night. The 34th Floor brought 7.2 million viewers and a 1.1 in the 18/49 rating and Unfriendly Chat had 6.6 million viewers and a 1.1 in the demo.

Yet again truly terrible ratings I see if they get any lower we'll need a magnifying glass to find them! Why are they trying to finish filming a month early? What does it matter? It's not like they have whole armies of people with bated breath waiting to see the end result is it? Before anyone mentions friday nights again I have two words to say 'Blue' and 'Bloods.' I'm hoping against all hopes that TPTB will finally see sense and lose Jo Danville permenantly i'm not bothered how particularly just as long as she leaves Mac Taylor untouched and we get our Stella/Smacked back then I'm happy. Even the non smacked amongst what is left of the audience have got to admit the show is suffering as a result of M K's unexpected departure and deeply unpopular replacement.I have read GS's comments storywise and find myself agreeing the best description I can come up with for the majority of the output since the end of the 5th series is lame and it isn't getting any better unfortunately. There are countless examples of shows that have gone on for several series more than CSI:NY yet don't seem to have struggled the way CSI:NY is doing since the 5th season NCIS, LAW & ORDER, MASH to name but a few but none of them were stupid enough to allow one half of the golden goose to leave did they or include storilines guarrenteed to alienate as much of the audience as possible were they? If the problem is that the writer's are stumped for fresh ideas may I suggest that they consult their own fanfics because the ameteurs don't seem to be having the same problem . I should also point out that in Danny and Lindsay's case for example they need to liven things up, they need conflict all this happy familly stuff may have worked in the 70's Waltons era but it's boring TV in 2011 and who wants to stay home for that? Whatever happened to Louie and the Messer family's links to the mob for instance or Danny's reckless streak? The Messer's since they were married off (in my humble opinion anyway a huge mistake the first in an increasingly long line) have been allowed to stagnate the wheelchair/ Shane Casey stories for example hardly being CSI:NY at it's best. The minute MK and her alto ego left the show lost it's heart and soul in short Mac needs his Stella we need our weekly fix of Smacked and the show's writers need a swift kick in the rear.I'm afraid never ending single mom trauma's with Jo is no match for Stella's mysterious past or the greatly missed not to mentioned loved Smacked (remember Greece and Prof P.)

^CSI: NY did fine at 10pm. In fact it was up in the 18-49 rating, which what really matters and not the viewers alone. Plus it beat Blue Bloods' rating last Wednesday. BB got only a 1.6.

1. The ratings didn't take a huge nose dive after Melina left. The ratings went down some, but it moved to Friday night so that was expected.

2. Not everyone believes Stella, Melina and SMACked were the be all and end all of the show.

3. Not everyone believes Sela/Jo were mistakenly added to the show. Some of us actually like her better than Melina/Stella.

4. Some of us think this season has been the best since S1. There have been a couple of episodes I really disliked, but overall I think it's been a great season writing and story wise.

5. Law and Order, NCIS and MASH all had characters leave and be replaced and *gasp* they still went on for many seasons after.

I would probably understand all the butthurt and animosity toward the show if Melina was fired and replaced by Sela, but that is not remotely close to the reality of the situation. Melina leaving was Melina's choice and her choice alone. Trying to get people to believe the show is on its deathbed because you're pissed about it doesn't negate the facts of the situation.

Exactly. And while there's been some totally lackluster storylines this season, I've really enjoyed the characters more in season seven unlike the past few years. The addition of Jo has not only allowed the show to write for a NEW character, but it also gives some of the other characters new places to go and grow (for example Mac and Flack).

EW lists CSI: NY as having strong odds at renewal for next season.

Sounds good. :) I only hope that there won't be major cast changes. I'm interested will gary continue act in csiny if s8 comes. I surely hope so but you never know but whatever he decides I'm okay with it. He still will be my fav actor no matter what. :D

I praying that it doesn't get cancelled. Maybe moving it to Fridays at 10 would put the show at better odds. I hope Gary stays with the show. Sela too. :)

Friday's new episode Smooth Criminal brought 9.65 million viewers and a 1.5 in the 18/49 rating. That was a series low in the key demo...:(

Not so bad after all. The ratings are up a bit in the finals. From Travis Yanan:

CSI: NY
- 9.710 million viewers
- 6.2/11 HH
- 1.6/5 A18-49

Blame the Justin Bieber movie! and maybe Fringe though it was also down to a series low.

It's so weird. We got word from Nina Tassler that Miami and NY wouldn't be cancelled if they stayed competitve. After that I saw somewhere (can't remember where) that all of the CSI shows were listed as likely to be renewed. Yesterday I read somewhere (I don't remember what site) that Miami and Vegas had already been renewed and NY was not likely to get renewed. Today I read on TV Guide's web site that none of the CSI shows have been renewed but that Vegas and Miami were likely to be renewed and NY was still not likely to get renewed. I know Gary confirmed on Twitter that NY hasn't been renewed yet. It's just confusing how things have been going back and forth about the possibility of S8.

Doesn't matter who guest stars or how old they are the only person the audience wants to see Johnny Depp excepted is MK and her much loved alter ego Stella. The Smacked carrot was dangled in front of us for years with no pay off basically TPTB bit the hand that feeds once to often and are now paying the price. I don't know if a S8 will happen or not but if it doesn't then TPTB have only themselves to blame. I dare say that sombody must like SW but the vast majority don't, we didn't want her or her character in the first place and never will hence the terrible ratings you can blame the lead in, blame the guest stars even blame the weather but the truth is Stella gets behinds on seats Jo doesn't. The audience needs a reason to watch and without Stella/Smacked there isn't one.

But the thing is that ratings weren't that much different last season if I remember correctly. Does anybody have the numbers? I'm much more inclined to think that the ratings dipped a bit because of the move to fridays than because Melina left. That difference was to be expected. Anyway it'd be good to know the numbers for last season so we could compare.
