Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

The million is for people who don't totally mess up the whole point of the game with their juvenile shennanigans.

SHENNANIGANS!

Now you think about what you've done.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Report from ABC:

During the 9 oclock hour, ABC's Grey's Anatomy posted a dominant victory over CBS C.S.I in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. ABCs medical drama outdelivered CBS crime drama by 1.3 million viewers (18.5 million vs. 17.2 million) and by 46% in Adults 18-49 (7.6/20 vs. 5.2/14). In the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic, Greys has beaten C.S.I. on all 9 occasions where both shows have been in originals this season.

Uh... I don't mind ABC declaring a victory, but I do mind them flat-out lying. In both viewers AND ratings CSI has beaten them twice this season, so I don't know where they're getting that number from.

And in terms of sheer viewers, CSI has beat them, I believe, at least once more.

But if going by ratings, CSI has beat them twice.

7/9 isn't bad.

I haven't seen the official Nielsen million numbers yet - and these figures look rounded, so I'm going to wait before adjusting the charts.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Ok i'm getting in on this bet. Remember people, with Grey's competition during the episode Happenstance, CSI had 24 mil. viewers. However, Happenstance was heavily advertised, so I think if they advertise strong again, CSI can hit close to 30 mil, if not more without any competition. I'm gonna go big or go home, which is why I'm going 29.3

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Well, I checked, and while ABC is seriously using semantics to declare a win, it has, in fact, won the 18-49 demographic all 9 weeks. It hasn't won in viewers for 3 of them, and it hasn't won in overall ratings for 2. But it has won 18-49 all 9.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

I'd kinda like to know what's making that group like Grey's better than CSI. Wish there was a way to survey them lol Mainly the ones who stopped watching CSI for some reason. I'd be curious why they left, other than the ones who probably did it over GSR.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

I will be honest I'm not a fan of GSR, but that would not make me stop watching the show.

Well, some people just want to watch what everyone is talking about. A girl at my work wants to buy Grey's Anatomy on DVD having never seen an episode, because she feels left out when her friends talk about it.

But she's a huge fan of CSI and doesn't want to buy the DVDs.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Thanks, Adz - I totally missed your vote, mrb105. Sorry!

*points to Sarah's post* that's a lot of numbers...

lol! Well, it kind of was born of a handful of people PM'ing me or posting that they wanted to see different things compared...

I was joking around about the cracks on it being a Catherine-heavy episode. I mean, if you take a look at the list of what got the highest ratings last year, it's clear that it's not necessarily the better episodes, but the more interesting-sounding storylines, and obviously the time of year.

Top 5:

1) Still Life - 30,945,000
2) A Bullet Runs Through It 1 - 29,546,000
3) Bodies in Motion - 29,019,000
4) A Bullet Runs Through It 2 - 28,985,000
5) Bite Me - 28,848,000

There has also been a lot of talk of decline in the ratings. So just like we did the week-to-week comparison with Season 7, I'll do the percentages here as well.

This will obviously be a one-time thing since Season 6 has fully aired, so it won't be tacked on to the endless lists. lol.

Premiere - 29.019
Episode 2 - 3.5% drop from the week before
Episode 3 - 2.9% gain
Episode 4 - 1.8% drop
Episode 5 - 0.5% drop
Episode 6 - 0.9% gain
Episode 7 - 2.8% gain
Episode 8 - 1.9% drop
Episode 9 - 11.3% drop
Episode 10 - 16.9% gain
Episode 11 - 12.0% drop
Episode 12 - 0.4% drop
Episode 13 - 4.7% drop
Episode 14 - 8.8% gain
Episode 15 - 3.3% drop
Episode 16 - 1.4% gain
Episode 17 - 2.4% drop
Episode 18 - 7.1% drop
Episode 19 - 7.6% drop
Episode 20 - 4.5% gain
Episode 21 - 10.7% gain
Episode 22 - 4.8% drop
Episode 23 - 3.7% gain
Episode 24 - 6.1% drop

Average percentage: Drop of 0.62%

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Early results put Grey's at 24.3 million viewers as a new episode vs. CSI's repeat numbers of 15.9 million - pretty impressive considering that a showing of Dog Eat Dog as the last re-run got only about 16 and it was up against a re-run of Grey's, AND the latest CSI re-run was from this season and was up against a new episode of Grey's.

CSI came in second place for the evening, Grey's in first.

So what I'll be doing for the charts is I'll compare the new episode of Grey's to next week's new episode of CSI which is shown against a re-run of Grey's. Does that make sense?

So I'll update Grey's numbers with the fast nationals now:

Grey's Anatomy 24.3 million

Grey's Season 3 vs. Itself

Premiere: 25.4 million viewers
Episode 2: 23.5 million viewers - 7.5% drop from week before
Episode 3: 22.8 million viewers - 3% drop
Episode 4: 21.93 million viewers - 4% drop
Episode 5: 20.96 million viewers - 4.5% drop
Episode 6: 21.03 million viewers - 0.3% gain
Episode 7: 20.65 million viewers - 1.8% drop
Episode 8: 20.92 million viewers - 1.3% gain
Episode 9: 18.509 million viewers - 11.5% drop
Episode 10: 24.3 million viewers - 23.8% gain

Average week-to-week change: -0.69%

Their total drop in audience since the premiere is: 4.3% loss. Grey's has not once risen above its premiere numbers. CSI has done so twice.

A quick FYI which should help both shows: for the final end-of-season numbers, the Thanksgiving episode ratings will be ommitted because they aired on a holiday.

Grey's episode rating average for this season is: 21.99

ETA

CSI re-run comparison:

Dog Eat Dog (against a re-run of Grey's): 16.83 million

Toe Tags (against a new Grey's): 15.9 million

5.5% drop

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

One last insane little comparison (because I'm crazy dontchyaknow... and incredibly bored):

Comparing the average rating for the 8 episodes following the premieres of both shows to the premiere numbers to decide the average number of fans who stuck around after the premiere (which makes a lot more sense than going from first episode to latest episode... at least in my very very bored mind):

CSI's average minus the premiere is: 21.25

So compared to its premiere (22.58) its average loss of viewers from the premiere is: 5.9%

Grey's average minus the premiere is: 21.29

So compared to its premiere (25.4) its average loss of viewers from the premiere is: 16.2%

...have I mentioned that I'm bored?
