Home - (H/Y)

Horatio and Yelina stood up together. Ray Jr stood.

Ray Jr: Smells great.

Ray Jr walked over to the dinning table. Janice watched as Horatio allowed Yelina to walk in front of him, and observed how he looked at her. There was something there, the way he looked at her with longing even? She didn't want to seem like the over-jealous girlfriend. Dinner carried light conversation and Janice continued to notice the looks which Horatio exchanged with Yelina and she began to think that there was more going on between her husband-to-be and his sister-in-law.

After dinner Ray Jr was engrossed in a movie on TV and the adults sat round the dinning table with coffee.

Janice: Horatio told me about Raymond. I'm so sorry.
Yelina: It's ok. A leopard doesn't change his spots.

Janice was quick to notice how Horatio shot Yelina a look of concern and worry. Yelina stared back at Horatio. Both of them seemed to be able to communicate even without talking. And it made Janice feel even more uncomfortable.

Janice: Horatio told me you've been through alot, you're a very strong woman, raising your son by yourself.
Yelina: It's nothing. I had alot of help.
Janice: Horatio must have been a great help, a good brother-in-law.
Yelina: Yeah he is.

Horatio cleared his throat and shifted uncomfortably. He was beginning to notice a tension between both women.

Horatio: I was just doing my part to help her. I wish Ray turned out better. Yelina deserves better.

Janice felt decidely uncomforatble and excused herself to go the bathroom. Horatio turned his attention to Yelina.

Horatio: I hope you're ok with all this.

Yelina turned to face him and smiled.

Yelina: Why wouldn't I be?
Horatio: Well, I felt an uncomfortable feeling between us all. Ray was the only one that probably wasn't uncomfortable.
Yelina: Horatio, I'm fine.
Horatio: Okay.

Yelina put a hand on his forearm and grasped it gently.

Yelina: Don't worry about me more than you have to, Horatio.

Horatio conceded.

Horatio: Okay, although I'll never stop completely worrying about you.
Yelina: Even when you're married?
Horatio: Nope. Never.

Janice watched from a gap in the door and sighed.
What is going on between them?
She flushed the toilet to keep appearances and walked out.

Janice: Who wants dessert?

Horatio felt uncomfortable again.

Yelina: We're good, thanks. We'd better get going Ray Jr has school tomorrow.

Yelina got up to get Ray Jr.

Horatio: I'd give you guys a ride home.

Yelina nodded. Horatio turned to Janice.

Horatio: I'll be right back.
Janice: Sure.

Horatio left with Yelina and Ray Jr. He drove them home, walking Yelina to her door.

Horatio: I'll call you. Maybe I'd drop by again?

HoratioandYelina I was freaking out on my first day too...so, how was it?

HoratioandYelina
I hope the first day was great. I love university and I'm sure you will too.

Yelina smiled.

Yelina: That would be nice. Thank you...for tonight.
Horatio: No...thank you. I think Janice and Ray Jr. really got along.
Yelina: I don't know if we got along, though...Janice and I.
Horatio: It was just uncomfortable all around. I'm sure things will work out for the best.
Yelina: I hope so. Goodnight, Horatio.

Yelina wrapped her arms around Horatio's neck, like she had done so many times before. This time, however, felt different.
Horatio closed his eyes, savouring the moment between them.

Horatio (whispering): Goodnight Yelina.

Horatio walked back to the Hummer and, looking back toward her house, waved. Yelina waved back and shut the door behind her. When she turned around to stand face to face with Raymond, she gasped.

Yelina: Raymond!!! What the hell are you doing here?
Raymond: Horatio paid me a visit yesterday. He heard about my infidelity.
Yelina: What?
Raymond: I think it's funny, you know, him talking to me about infidelity, when he has that fiancee of his and he's in love with you.
Yelina: Go to hell, Raymond.

HnY hope your first day was fun. I had tons of fun in uni. I'm sure you will too.

Raymond: I'm not here to fight you, I just came over to see my son. And talk to you about getting that divorce we wanted.

Yelina knew she had no right to stop Ray from see Ray Jr. Much as he wasn't much of a husband, he had always loved and been a good father to their son.

Yelina: What's there to talk about? I thought we agreed I get Ray Jr. I don't care about anything else. I can take care of us.
Raymond: I'd like to keep him with me too.
Yelina: You'll get to visit him.
Raymond: I'd ike more than that.
Yelina: You're not exactly a great role model, till you clean up your act, visits with him is all you get.
Raymond (getting angry): I'll fight you on that. Horatio comes and goes whenever he wants and I only get visitation rights to my son?!

Ray Jr came out of his room.

Ray Jr: Stop fighting! You guys are always fighting! You ever stop to think about what I want?

Yelina: Ray, go to your room!
Ray Jr: But Mom!
Yelina: Now Ray. I mean it.

Ray Jr stormed into his room, slamming the door behind him.

Raymond: You're going to hear from my lawyer.
Yelina: I think I'd rather deal with him than you.
Raymond: Whatever Yelina. I'm getting Ray Jr.
Yelina: Just leave Raymond.

Raymond was about to yell at Yelina, but insted balled his fists and turned to the door. He punched the door in anger then left, slamming the door behind him. Yelina took a moment to compose herself. She had to check on Ray Jr.

She knocked on his room door. After repeated attempts with no answer she entered. Ray Jr's room was empty. She immediately knew he'd run off. She cursed under her breath. She hadn't had time to obtain a car since they returned. She tried Ray Jr's cellphone but there was no reply. She hurried out into the dark street, and walked in the direction she hoped Ray Jr had taken. After about 20 mintues of searching she gave up and decied it was time to get help.

Horatio was almost home when his cell rang. He recognised the number.

Horatio: Yelina? Is everything alright?

Horatio could sense that something had happened, for Yelina was short of breath and sounded nervous.

Yelina: Ray Jr., he ran away.
Horatio: What?
Yelina: Raymond...came over and we got into a fight, then I told Ray Jr. to go to his room. When Raymond finally left, I went to go check up on Ray Jr. and the window was open. Horatio...I'm scared.
Horatio: I'm on my way.

Janice sat quietly on the couch, listening to the whole conversation Horatio was having in the other room. Once again, Horatio would be going over there...and to do what, comfort her? Hug her again? Horatio was about to rush out the door when Janice got up from the couch and ran over to him.

Janice: Horatio, what's going on?
Horatio: Ray Jr....he's run away.
Janice: Oh my god. Why?
Horatio: Raymond went over to Yelina's and confronted her. They had a fight and Ray Jr. must have overheard, because when Yelina went to go check on him, he was gone. I'm going over there to help her find him.
Janice: I'm going too.

Horatio looked at her surprised.

Horatio: Are you sure? I mean...
Janice: What? Do you not think I don't trust you alone with her?
Horatio: What?
Janice: You know what I mean, Horatio. I saw the way you were looking at her earlier tonight. You don't even look at me that way. What's going on between you and her? Are you in love with her, Horatio?

Horatio: What?

Horatio didn't even know he'd let anything slip. How could Janice tell? Was it that obvious? He knew he loved Janice, he was supposed to. He was ready to spend the rest of his life with her. Then there was Yelina. He knew he loved her too, but it was always forbidden. There wasn't time for all this, Ray Jr was paramount now.

Horatio: Sweetheart, I love you. you know that. There isn't time, I have to help Yelina find Ray Jr. I don't think, it's a good idea for you to come along. We'll talk when I get back.

He grabbed his car keys and ran out the door. He knew Janice was probably angry but he had to find Ray Jr. He jumped into the car and gunned his engine. He found Yelina walking down the street, looking very worried, not far from her house. He pulled up beside her.

Horatio: Yelina! Get in.

Yelina was out of breath and trembling, obviously afraid for Ray Jr.'s safety.

Horatio: I'm sorry this had to happen, Yelina.
Yelina: I just don't know what made Raymond pay me a visit like that. If it weren't for that fight, Ray Jr. and I would be safe at home.

Horatio felt the pangs of guilt once again, for he knew that it was his visit that compelled Raymond to go to Yelina's in the first place.

Horatio: I, uh...I paid him a visit myself...at his hotel room.

Yelina shot a glaring glace Horatio's way. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Yelina: Why?
Horatio: I, uh...I just wanted to let him know how I felt on his personal decisions, that's all.
Yelina: I can't believe you did that, Horatio. How could you...
Horatio (in an elevated voice): ...because it hurt me that he hurt you that way. You deserve better than that.

Yelina continued to look at him, only her frown slowly began to fade.

Yelina: Oh, Horatio...

Horatio didn't want to let Yelina know that he had went to confront Raymond. He knew she'd be angry with him, and she was. His tone softened.

Horatio: You deserve better than Ray... than me.

Yelina was touched by the emotion in his voice and the fact that he felt it was truth. She never thought of it that way. She had always thought he was a closed door, and coming home to find him engaged she thought the door would never open again, but now she felt a glimmer of hope. He obviously still had feelings for her. She reached over and took his hand.

Yelina: I never knew you felt that way.

Her hand felt icy cold. He knew she was still worried for Ray Jr. This wasn't a time to talk about personal feelings.

Horatio: You're freezing.

He slipped off his jacket and drapped it round her shoulders. She reciprocated with a small smile.

Horatio: Any idea where Ray Jr might have gone?
