Home - (H/Y)

Yelina: I have an idea, but I hope he's not there.
Horatio: Raymond?
Yelina: Yeah.
Horatio: It doesn't hurt to go over there and look.

----

Horatio pulled the car into the parking lot of the hotel and took a deep breath. He squeezed Yelina's hand.

Yelina: Thank you...for helping me.

Horatio smiled in reply.

Horatio: You want to go in with me, or do you want me to go alone?
Yelina: I'll go with you.
Horatio: You sure?
Yelina: Positive.

Horatio got out of the Hummer and walked over to the other side to let Yelina out. He grabbed ahold of her hand and helped her down. She continued to hold on to his hand for a few seconds, then realising that she was already out of the car, let go of his hand, blushing.

Yelina: You ready?

The little touches they shared always got to him, and tonight they only reminded Horatio of how much he wanted her. He forced the thought out of his mind, foucusing on Ray Jr.

Horatio: Yeah, let's go.

Horatio kncoked on the door of Raymond's hotel room. Raymond opened the door after a long while. He was only had a towel round his waist. When he saw who was at the door he raised his hands in disbelief.

Raymond (to Yelina): What is this? What's going on? You're here to check on me now? With him?
Horatio: It isn't always about you Ray.

Yelina glimpsed movement behind Raymond.

Yelina: Ray!

She pushed past Raymond and barged into the room, only to be confronted by a blonde woman in Raymond's bed. She hurridly wrapped the sheeets round herself. Yelina shook her head incredulous.

Raymond: You guys have no right busting in like this -
Horatio: Ray Jr's missing. We thought he might be here with you.
Raymond: What? He's missing. You can't even keep an eye on him.
Yelina: And you can't keep your pants on apparently.

Raymond glared at Yelina. The blonde woman wrapped a towel round herself and hurried into the bathroom.

Raymond: Ray Jr's not here. But I'll help you find him.
Horatio: I think you've done enough for one night Ray. We'll find the boy. We'll call you when we have him.

Yelina looked more upset by the minute. Horatio took her arm and gently led her out of the room. Bcak in his car, he rubbed her upper arm.

Horatio: You ok?

Yelina: I guess people like him never change.
Horatio: I guess so.

Yelina's phone rang. It was Ray Jr.

Yelina: Ray, where are you?
Ray Jr.: I'm home. I needed to get away from you and dad fighting.
Yelina: Ray, I'm so sorry I made you run out like that, but you know better than to make me worried like that.
Ray Jr.: I'm sorry too, mom.
Yelina: We'll talk about this when I get home.

Yelina hung up the phone and hung her head in relief.

Yelina: Thank god.
Horatio: Is everything okay?
Yelina: Yeah. He just went to take a walk.

Horatio moved his hand from her arm to her back, where he began to rub it softly.

Yelina: I was so scared, Horatio.
Horatio: I was scared too. The thought of losing Ray Jr. is...unbearable.

Yelina smiled and looked back up at him.

Yelina: That means so much to me, Horatio. Knowing that you care...

Horatio (bowing head): I... I always care.

Yelina nodded her head, as if to say that she knew. Horatio realised what he was doing and turned red. He shouldn't have allowed himself so much contact with her.

Horatio: I er... I'm always here for you and Ray Jr.
Yelina: Thank you. You think you could drive me home. I really need to talk to my son.
Horatio: Sure.

They drove home in silence. He didn't ask to come in to her house, just knowing Ray Jr was safe was good enough. He knew she needed to talk and assure the boy, there would be time for him to talk to his nephew about his parents divorce later.

Horatio: I'll call Raymond, to tell him Ray Jr's safe. I'll call you soon, maybe I can drop by for dinner.

His brain tried to find a reason for inviting himself to her place again. It came up empty. He smiled sheepishly.

Yelina: Sure.

She got out of the car and waved goodbye to Horatio. He noddded his goodbye and waited for her to enter her house before driving off. He got back to his own apartment very late. It seemed like it was becoming a habit since Yelina got back. He found Janice sitting on the couch waiting up for him.

Horatio: You're still up?

Horatio wasn't sure whether Janice was angry or not, for the expression on her face wasn't very revealing.

Horatio: Honey, you okay?
Janice: Is Ray okay?
Horatio: Yeah, he's fine. He just went for a walk...he called Yelina from their house.
Janice: That's good. Is Yelina all right?
Horatio: Uh, yeah, she's fine now. She was scared earlier but she's fine now.
Janice: I'm sure she needed a lot of emotional support, huh?

Horatio knew what was coming, so he tried to play it off as nothing of concern.

Horatio: She's, uh, a strong woman. She...
Janice: Don't lie to me, Horatio. She knew you would be there for her in an instant, so she called you.
Horatio: Janice, please don't...
Janice: Don't tell me that, Horatio. You have feelings for her that are more than just simple friendly compassion. You're in love with her, aren't you?
Horatio: Janice...it's not like that, okay?
Janice: What, since you're with me, it all of a sudden changed?

Horatio sighed. He knew Janice might be angry when he returned home. He knew he owed her an explaination.

Horatio: I... Yelina and I... we spent alot of time together. Raymond wasn't exactly a good husband, and I felt obliged to make up for his shortcomings. He wasn't round much, and Yelina had Ray Jr, he was so young, I was there for them whenever Raymond couldn't. Then Raymond went undercover. We thought he'd died. I was there to help her grieve over him.

Horatio was confused. He told himself he loved Janice, but he still had undeniable feelings for Yelina. Janice waited for him to go on.

Horatio: We fell in love with each other... but that was a long time ago. Then we found out Ray was stil alive. I sent them to Rio for a fresh start. I... I got over, I got over Yelina. I love you now.

Horatio felt as if he owed it to Janice to make things work. But he wanted desperately to make Yelina happy.

Horatio: Yelina and Ray Jr are going through alot right now. I can't just abandon them. I know I'm asking alot out of you. Sweetheart, I'm sorry. I want to marry you but I need to help my family right now.

He took Janice's hand.

Horatio: You understand don't you?

Janice: I don't know anymore. I thought I knew you, but ever since she came back, it hasn't been the same with you.
Horatio: What do you mean? Nothing's changed.
Janice: Everything's changed. You want to be with her.
Horatio: Janice, please don't do this.

Janice had already gotten up out of the couch and was walking to the door when Horatio grabbed her arm.

Janice: Let go of me, Horatio. I need to go think.
Horatio: Janice, please...let's talk about this.
Janice: What is there to talk about? You love her.
Horatio: That's...that's all in the past. I love you.
Janice: Cut the crap, Horatio.

Janice opened the door to find Raymond standing at the door.

Horatio: Ray?
Raymond: We're, uh...getting a divorce, Horatio.

Janice covered her mouth with her hand.

Janice: Oh god.

The timing was off. That seemed to be the case with his family lately. He was in the middle of a fight with his finacee and Raymond showed up at his door.

Horatio: Ray, umm... come in.

To his relief, Janice didn't seem to be wanting to leave now. Raymond walked in and spun round to face Horatio. Horatio thought it appropriate to re-introduce Janice to his brother.

Horatio: Janice, you remember my brother Ray?
Janice: Yeah. Nice to see you again.
Raymond: Nice to see you too. So you're going out with my brother?
Janice: Yeah.
Horatio: We're engaged.

Raymond raised his eyebrows but said nothing.

Horatio: I know about the divorce. Yelina told me. And after tonight, I'm not surprised. What do you want Ray?

Raymond: Well, Yelina seems to keep nothing from you these days, including her feelings. You seem to be doing the same...and you're marrying someone else.

Horatio turned red with anger.

Horatio: Raymond, now would be the time to shut your mouth.
Janice: No, Horatio, I think Raymond should have the right to speak. He speaks some truth here.

Horatio turned to face Janice, a look of shock on his face.

Horatio: Janice...
Janice: Horatio, please. I really want to hear what he has to say.
Raymond: Janice, I would watch out if I were you. Horatio's still in love with my soon to be ex-wife.
Janice: I'm not surprised.
Raymond: Really now? Would it surprise you to know that he harrassed me at my hotel room the other night because of something that wasn't his business in the first place?

Horatio was getting quite angry at that point.

Horatio (in an elevated voice): Raymond!!! You cheated on her!!!
Raymond: You're doing the same to poor Janice here.
Horatio (yelling): RAYMOND!!!
Janice (in a slightly lower yet still elevated voice): Oh shut it, Horatio. You know it's true.

Horatio clenched his hair with his hands, obviously agitated by the situation.

Horatio (in a quiet yet angry tone): Janice...you know...I wouldn't do that to you.
Janice: I don't even know you anymore. I'm staying at an hotel tonight. I need to sort this all out in my head.

Janice walked out the door, leaving Horatio standing there breathing heavily, his hair tossled in frustration. He slouched his shoulders in defeat, watching helplessly as Janice got into her car and sped off.

Horatio (whispering): Janice...
Raymond: Looks like Big Brother's not the saviour he thought he was.

Horatio looked over at Raymond with malice in his eyes.

Raymond: At any rate, we're divorcing, which is good for you, huh?
Horatio: Beat it, Raymond.

----

Horatio found himself once again at the steps of Yelina's house. His hair still tossled, he walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell. When Yelina answered, the sight of a distraught Horatio saddened her a bit.

Yelina: Hi.
Horatio: Hi.
Yelina: What's going on, Horatio? What happened?

Yelina looked like he had roused her from sleep. He felt bad for disturbing her again.

Horatio: I'm er... I'm sorry to bother you again. You've had a busy night.
Yelina: We both had.

She sensed his anger and frustration and opened the door wider, motioning for him to come in.

Horatio plopped himself down on the couch, running a hand through his hair. He felt Yelina sit down beside him, then lean forward to look him in the eye, mirroring his actions.

Yelina: What's wrong Horatio?
Horatio: I ummm, Janice just walked out on me.
Yelina: I'm so sorry. This is probably my fault.
Horatio: No. She's had her suspicions about my feelings for you. She confronted me about it, then Ray came round... made matters worse.
Yelina (rolling eyes): Yeah he tends to do that. She patted his thigh. I'll make you some coffee.

Horatio watched as Yelina went about making coffee for the both of them. Something so simple yet rich with his love for him, he could even sense it in the aroma of the hot mug of coffee she slid in front of him on the dinning table. He looked into her eyes. She still took his breath away.

Horatio: I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do right now.

Pff, who needs season 6? We've got Hrockz and EyeHeartH! :D

This is really great work, keep it up!

Ya'll are awesome. I like reading your fiction better than looking forward to what I know will be the mediocrity of S6.

Yelina: Wait it out until the morning. Maybe things will have cooled off by then.
Horatio: I hope so. Thanks again...for the coffee.
Yelina: No problem.
Horatio: Everything is so...weird...right now.
Yelina: Don't worry. Things will work out the way they should.

Horatio looked over at Yelina and smiled.

Horatio (quietly): Yeah.
Yelina: So...Ray Jr. doesn't know about the divorce yet. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to say.

Horatio nodded.

Horatio: If you'd like...I can be there if you need me to.
Yelina: I'd like that. I just don't know what to say.
Horatio: It's going to be hard but I know you'll think of something.
Yelina: I mean, how hard is it to tell your son that his parents are splitting up?
Horatio: It's probably very hard for everyone.
Yelina: Yeah. Would you like to stay here tonight, just so you won't be alone? All I have is the couch but it folds out.
Horatio: Thank you. I don't know if I'm going to sleep at all tonight, but it's worth a shot.

----

Horatio unlocked his front door and stepped inside, the familiar lonely chill running down his spine every time he stepped into his lonely home. He wished more than anything that someone would be there waiting for him, but he was unsure of who now.
He took a quick shower and put jeans and a t-shirt on. At the last minute he decided to use one of his many vacation days, but he knew that Calleigh would do just fine steering the team for today. He didn't need the pressures of work today; he needed to clear his mind of everything that had transpired in the last few days. He drove back to Yelina's house to get himself and Yelina ready for the talk with Ray Jr. Since it was a Saturday, he wouldn't be bothered with school, so they both decided that it would be the best day to chat.

Horatio: You ready?
Yelina: As ready as I'll ever be.

Horatio waited as Yelina got Ray Jr from his room and ushered him into the living room. The teen had been sleeping in, and he looked like his mother had woken him from sleep.

Ray Jr: Am I in trouble here? Is this about the other night when I ran off?
Yelina (rubbing Ray Jr's back): No honey. Why don't you take a seat on the couch.

Ray sat down and Yelina took the seat beside him. Horatio took the armchair next to Ray Jr, leaning forward to rest his arms on his knees.

Ray Jr: Ok this is creepy, what's going on?
Yelina (sighing): Honey, what I'm about to tell you, you might not like it. Your father and I are getting a divorce.

There was silence.

Yelina: He has another woman, besides me. He's been cheating on me Ray, and I don't want to take it anymore.
Ray Jr: Why?! Dad would never do that! He loves us. Whatever he does it's for us! Maybe he made mistake, he's sorry you'll see.
Horatio: Ray, this isn't the first time your Dad has done this.
Ray Jr: I know.
Horatio: And it's hurting your mother. You don't want Mom to be upset do you?
Ray Jr: No, but can't you guys just work things out?
Yelina: I'm tired of fighting with your Dad, I just need a break from all this. That's why we came back Ray.

She pulled her son in for a hug.

Yelina: I know it's hard. It's hard for me too. But we'll get through this. And you'll still get to see your Dad. You know we both love you very much, as does your uncle.
Ray Jr: It isn't fair.
Yelina: I know. But your father's hardly around anyway. He's never been for years.
Horatio: You know what buddy? It's hard, but if you ever need anything, I'm here for you, and so's your Mom.

Ray Jr nodded.

Ray Jr: So when is this divorce taking place.
Horatio: Your parents are getting the lawyers to do the paperwork now.
Ray Jr: Can I go back to my room now?
Yelina (hugging him): Sure honey.

Ray Jr left. Both adults could tell the boy was angry. Horatio took the place he had vacated next to Yelina.

Horatio: That went as well as we could have hoped. How're you holding up?
