To be honest, there are some people who are trying and doing their best to make anything else even if they're bound to the the TV show. Jonathan Togo comes to my mind. He was supposed to play in the new "Spiderman" (a rather much more challeging experience than the movies/shows Adam played in), but something came up and "bye bye Spiderman". He's also going to play a much more interesting indipendent movie, but nobody knows why we don't have anymore information on it....it is still entirely possible that movie was cancelled because of his contrac with Miami.
I personally see Jonathan Togo as one of those actors who is doing his best to try and find any possible experience that might give him the chance not to be typecast as Ryan Wolfe. It is difficult since he has a contract, but from a personal POV, I'd rather see him leave the show and finally be able to fulfil his desire...which is not to be typecast as Ryan Wolfe. No actor would want to be typecast.
The problem is to be typecast as an actor, you need to be "seen" as the character in a big way. That's not happening to Togo, La Rue, or Linn, as they are RARELY seen.
I would agree that typecasting will probably be a huge problem for Caruso, Procter and Rodriguez.
And I'm HUGELY disappointed that Togo was supposed to be the new Spiderman and it's not happening. I didn't know that. He would have been perfect!
The movie is still a go,they finished filming in early July right before Miami resumed shooting.I read just this week that there is post production and sound editing going on. The movie will have Ed Asner as well.Indie movies don't get the publicity that they need, probably because of limited resources.
They are sometimes hard to keep up with and have limited theater releases, some even go straight to DVD.
Oh thank you so much for this. I was truely going to think they actually cancelled it . Oh well I know how it is hard for indie movies to get resources so I will be glad once I'll watch this movie...yep 'cause I'm so curious about it
I'm watching for it too,
Flo. Togo is a very talented actor and I'd love to see him in other things.
I don't believe Adam's "reached his goal either", but has any of the cast? I think David is pretty comfortable on the show so maybe he has, but who's to know for sure.
I truly doubt that Caruso's ever been comfortable with a role if by "comfortable" you mean he's become complacent and is just treading water and doing his time. A lot of things can be said about him, and certainly have, but being a lazy actor simply isn't true.
I don't want to offend anybody, but at least David is old enough to afford such a thing. I mean he's 54 years old ;P ....he hasn't much career left to be known for other possible roles than Horatio Caine. Though I still think most of his fans knew him even from NYPD
.
The others are way too young to be able do such a thing.
I think he spends so much of his time focused on his little ones and his business ventures, I doubt he's thinking about dealing with the type casting that Horatio has left him with.
And seriously, who does he have to blame for that? Himself. To me it appeared that making Horatio and iconic character was his goal. Goal achived - big time!
But David has enough of an acting history and it's clear he's capable of much more than Horatio. I would also think that he could jump start his own projects at this point if he found a script that was of interest to him because of his "senior" status
and he also seems to have quite the head for business.
The others may not yet have the longevity and resume that affords them the ability to feel secure. That's true. So it could end up a struggle to move past CSI Miami once it's over.
(And I'm one who was aware of Caruso
before NYPD Blue. Knew who David Duchovny was before The X-Files, too!
)
Personally, I believe that Procter and Rodriguez are going to have a very hard time not only shaking the characters Calleigh and Eric, but the less than stellar job they've done in the last couple of years
acting those characters.
They and their characters are in a horribly tired rut. Everything is pedictable and it shows in their performances. To me they not only appear bored, but struggling to keep their characters alive at this point. There doesn't seem to be much of an effort to break out of the constraints this nomance has placed on their characters. Eric screaming and carrying on and Calleigh on her death bed seems to be the only thing they've become capable of doing - and so the writers keep serving up the same, tired crap and the look tired acting it.
