CSI:NY The story of a true hero.

Chapter 17:

“Hey Mac, how are you doing?” Sid looked at him, he was standing in the door to his office.

“I’m alright.” Mac smiled, tried to avoid any further questions, even though Sid had been very helpful through the time just after Stella’s death.

“I heard about your case, must be difficult to work on a case like that.” Sid sat down on the chair on the other side of his desk.

“It is… sort of… I just keep thinking about her, you know? It reminds me so much of the case with Frankie. And our vic’s best friend is incredibly sad, of course he is, everything about the case just reminds me so much about her.” Mac took a deep breath, to avoid the tears from running again.

“It’s okay Mac, you were so close, I understand why you feel the way you do, so does everybody else here…” Sid smiled, “But don’t withdraw yourself from the world Mac, Sheldon says that it took Stella so long to drag you back to reality when Claire died…”

“I know it did Sid, and I still miss her too, but right now, it’s Stellas death, that pains me the most.” Mac felt the tear he had been fighting with, finally win and run down his cheek.

Looking at the picture of a smiling and happy Stella he had standing on his desk, made his heart hurt even more.

“We all miss her Mac, and we’ll all be right here, whenever you need a friend.” Sid smiled before he left the office, leaving Mac alone with his thoughts again.

* memories *

“Mac? I just heard about the attack, have you heard anything from her at all?” Stella wrapped her arms around him.

“No… nothing.” Mac felt the tears run down his cheeks, his Claire? Could she be? Was she? No, she couldn’t be…

“Come, I’ll drive you there, I’m sure she’ll be incredibly happy, if you are there when she comes out.” Stella stroked his cheek, carefully wiping away his tears.

“I’ll be fine Stella…” He looked at her, he had already built up his walls again, he couldn’t let anyone see how weak he felt.

“I’m not asking Mac, I’m telling. You cant be sitting here all alone, I’m here for you.” She smiled compassioned, “And if you don’t want my help, I’m afraid I’m going to have to ignore what you want, is that clear?”

Mac laughed quietly, “Yes Ma’am.” Stella laughed along with him, still holding him close, making him feel that he would never be alone, not as long as he would have Stella by his side.
* memories *

Chapter 18:

“It seems that you were right then Mac.” Don looked at him, “It was the boyfriend, he wont tell us why unfortunately, but it could be jealousy, or rage. I don’t know.”

“Our job is to find the killer, not to understand why…” Mac looked out the window, he would actually like to know why in this case, but he couldn’t force the killer to tell him.

“I know this is hard Mac, and I know how much you and Stella had grown to love each other, but no matter how many cases you solve, no matter how many killers you try to take it out on, it wont bring her back to you.” Don took a deep breath, “Stella is only who we remember her to be now…”

Mac felt another tear run down his cheek, now he felt that he should’ve dealt with it properly when she died, in stead of hiding it all behind his affection and love to little Stella.

“I know Don, but I really miss her, I miss her so much…” Mac looked at the case file he was holding in his hands, trying not to look Don in the eyes.

“No one doubts that Mac.” Don placed his hand on his shoulder, “But go home, you’ve been working overtime the last 2 days, go home and sleep okay?”

Mac nodded silently, knowing that he wouldn’t get much sleep that night, alone in the silence, the emptiness, still being leftover from when Stella left the apartment for the last time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finding himself sitting at the floor in the entrance Mac slowly returned to reality, it was 5 am, had he been sleeping there for that long? Apparently.

He took a deep breath, allowing the feelings to pass through his body like they wanted to, hoping that he would be able to clear his mind for all the sorrow and pain for just a couple of minutes.

But that didn’t work, all he could think of, was his Stella. Even though it had been more than a year, he still felt the pain, like just an hour after she passed away.

Days had gone by, one day, two days, a week, a month, a year, but time wouldn’t heal this sorrow, this pain. Never would time be strong enough to heal the wounds that he was left with.

“Stella… If your beautiful soul is somewhere listening to me right now, then remember that I love you, and that my life without you will never be perfect, you were what made me whole, now I’m left torn apart, in the bleeding sorrow, of loosing you Stella, you, that are my everything.”

Chapter 19:

* memories *
“Come on Rebecca, we’ll be late!” Stella’s voice was loud and clear, like a big sisters voice always was, Stella’s was anyways, she was always so responsible and by the book, old boring Stella.

“Whatever!” Rebecca laughed, Stella was almost 7 years older than her, 7 times as responsible, and annoying.

“Don’t use that tone on me!” Stella, who was now 16, had always been the far most responsible, always called to check up on her, when Stella was in foster care, but Rebecca was stuck at the orphanage.

“Blah blah!” Rebecca loved teasing Stella, even though Stella meant more to her than anything, it was so fun to tease her.

“Rebecca Bonasera! If you don’t get you tiny behind with you, I’ll personally drag you all the way to school!” Stella looked at her sister with those eyes she always used, when she was annoyed.

“Sorry Stella…” Rebecca felt a tear run down her cheek, she always felt bad right after pissing her sister off.

“That’s okay kid, just hurry up.” Stella smiled and hugged her.

“Stella?” Rebecca started, gathering courage to tell her sister what she had on her mind, “I love you.” Rebecca smiled, so did Stella, “I love you too sis, for ever and always right?”

“For ever and always!”
* memories *

“Excuse me?” A woman was standing in the door to Macs office, she looked incredibly familiar to him, but he doubted that he had ever seen her before.

“Can I help you?” Mac smiled carefully, his mood had been better lately, maybe because Stella was growing, and the two of them were inseparable, 3 years old already, cute little girl.

“My name is Rebecca Bonasera, I was told that my sister is working here?” The woman looked at him, he looked her in the eyes, she had the exact same green perfect eyes as Stella had had.

But Stella didn’t have a sister, did she?

“You sister being?” Mac raised his eyebrow, Rebecca took a deep breath.

“Stella, Stella Bonasera.“ She looked at Mac, obviously noticed the sadder look on his face.

“You’d better sit down…” Mac pointed at the couch, as Rebecca sat down, he sat down next to her.

“First of all, Stella never told me she had a sister?”

“Well, we weren’t exactly the best of friends when we parted…” Rebecca started, “but can you please tell me what happened to her? Is she… dead?”

“I’m sorry, she died 3 years ago.” Mac looked at Rebecca, saw how the tears started to fill her eyes.

“No… No… Please tell me it isn’t true!” Rebecca cried, her voice being so affected by the tears that it took Mac a couple of minutes to find out what she said.

“I’m sorry.” Mac placed his arm around her, she found a little comfort in his care, as she looked at him.

“What happened? How did she?”

“She saved a good friend, called Lindsay’s, life, and Lindsay’s baby…”

I like the idea of having the idea of stella havng a sister and growing up with her :) Cant wait to see where this story goes...

Last update tonight, just for you Natty :D

Chapter 20.

“The year Stella turned 21 and was ready to move in, in her own apartment, I should’ve moved with her, but… But the day we moved there, things started to change, I was 14, how does any other teenage-girl behave?… I… We argued a lot, I was so sick of her making all the decisions, telling me how to live my life.” Rebecca started, Mac noticed the tears that were still running down her cheeks.

“One day, while Stella was at school I… I stole what I could find of money in the apartment and took off, I didn’t even leave her a letter. Of course later I considered contacting her, but, I was scared you know… And now, I finally gathered courage to find her, and apologize for everything I’ve done, she’s just gone.”

Rebecca took a deep breath, “When we were younger, and I had done something wrong, I apologized, sometimes I said I love you to her, then she’d say ‘I love you too sis, for ever and always right?’ and I would say ‘for ever and always’ before I would take her hand, and everything was good again.”

Mac felt a sorrow he hadn’t felt for almost 2 months now, the sorrow of remembering exactly how she was, exactly how she would make him laugh a dark, rainy night, and exactly how her absence made him cry every dark rainy night now.

“Where do you live now Rebecca?” Mac looked at her, she smiled, a smile he recognized only too well, the same nervous but comforting smile Stella had.

“New Jersey.” She looked away for a second, probably to hide the weakness, if she were anything alike Stella, she would.

“Okay, should I book a hotel room for you for the night?” Mac smiled, Rebecca looked at him, “I’ll be fine, I don’t want to burden you.”

Mac stroked her back, “You wont, you are a Stella’s family, means that you’re our family, I’ll get you a hotel room.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“How’s Rebecca doing?” Adam looked at him, with a both curious and protective look in his eyes.

“She’s still pretty shaken up, from what she told me, her and Stella were very close when they were kids.” Mac smiled, “Why don’t you ask her yourself? I have her number here. Call her, she needs to talk to someone.”

Adam smiled, but at the same time seemed confused, “Can I? I mean, are you sure she wont mind?”

“Talk to her Adam…” Mac smiled even more before he left the lab, it was 2:30 pm, he had to pick up the little princess from kindergarten, Danny and Lindsay were both working a high profile case, he had trusted them with it, they kind of both had Stellas old job now.

But before he went to the kindergarten, he wanted to stop by Stella’s grave, somewhere inside him, he still didn’t believe that she was gone.

Please don't let her be Mac's new one. I'm jealous and angry just thinking about the idea. :(

Dont worry, do you honestly think Mac would be over Stella after just 3 years?

I have other plans with Rebecca..

Chapter 21:

“Adam, calm down, it’s going to be alright.” Flack smiled, he knew how Adams heart must be galloping.

“I know, I mean, I hope so, what if… what if she doesn’t like me? What… I… it…” He was once again losing the ability to make sense, as he did every time he was nervous.

“Adam look at me, if she didn’t like you, she wouldn’t have accepted your invitation, you already have a date with her, now your only job is not to do something incredibly stupid okay?” Flack smiled, so did Adam, “Okay, okay, Got it, check, I’m ready, I can do this.”

He turned towards the door, but turned around again, “I cant do this.”

“What are you two up to?” Mac was standing in the door to the break room, smiling.

“Nothing Mac…” Adam blushed, Flack laughed, “Adam, is taking miss Bonasera out for dinner.” Flack saw how Mac smiled even more, “Wow, that was fast huh? Well good luck then.”

Mac went to the fridge, found his sandwich and walked back to his office, probably preparing for a long night of work.

“Okay Adam one more time, what do you NOT do?” Flack looked at him, Adam took another deep breath, “I do not talk about Stella unless Bec mentions her, I got it.”

“And?” Flack knew that Adam would probably forget all of this in between his nerves, but they might as well go through it anyways.

“Whenever she needs a shoulder to cry on, I shall be there.” Adam smiled, “Okay, I can do this.” He went towards the door, but was about to turn around as Flack stopped him.

“Don’t you dare turning around and say “I cant do this” one more time.” Flack laughed as Adam nodded and rushed out the door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Hey Mac, sorry to call you this late…” Danny’s voice was sad, and Mac heard Lindsay cry in the background.

“It’s okay, what’s wrong Danny?”

“Lindsay’s grandmother… She passed away late this afternoon. We are flying to Montana in the morning to be at the funeral. Could you possibly take care of Stella while we are gone? She’s too young to go to a funeral…” Danny took a deep breath.

“Of course Danny, how long are you planning on being away?”

“I think we’ll stay there for a week, Lindsay needs her family’s support, and they need her, they were all very close to her grandmother.”

“That’s okay, I’ll pick up Stella in the morning…” Mac said goodbye to Danny and hung up the phone, he was actually looking forward to taking care of the little princess, even though she was a very cheery 3-year old, with way more energy than Mac would’ve expected any kid to have.

Erhm, sure Mac is or? nah, i'll stop teasing and just post the next update :D

Chapter 22:

“Are you ready to go Stella?” Mac laughed as the little girl replied, “Just second!”

“Hurry up, if we are going to have pizza on the way then we have to go now.” Mac looked at his watch, they were in no hurry what so ever, but he had a fund day planned for them, they were going to the pizzeria on the corner, then they were going to a newly opened theme park, before heading home to watch movies and eat popcorn.

“Ready.” Stella smiled and turned around, even though she was only 3 years old, she was incredibly elegant, and pretty, she had all the best looks from both of her parents.

“Okay, let’s go.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Who’s up for pizza?” Mac laughed as Stella jumped up and down in the car seat, giggling.

“Me! Me up for pizza!” She had a huge grin on her face as Mac turned into the parking lot.

“Oy, watch out.” Mac caught the little girl just before she was about to stumble and fall out of the car.

“Thank!” Stella laughed, “heehee up?” she giggled, and laughed happily when Mac lifted her over his head and sat her on his shoulders.

“Ready to go?” Mac lifted his foot, ready to take a step as soon as Stella said go.

“No.” The little 3-year-old giggled, “wait.” She laughed, before she started to count down, “10, 9, 7, 4, 2, 1! Go!” She laughed even harder when Mac galloped towards the door to the pizzeria.

“Watch your head.” Mac bend his knees slightly so that Stella wouldn’t hit her head on the door.

“Can I ice-cream?” she giggled, Mac laughed, “Let’s see if you can eat up your pizza first okay?” Mac lifted her of his shoulders and placed her on the floor.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Are you stuffed?” Mac smiled by the sight of Stella trying to finish her pizza.

”Almost” She admitted blushing and pushed her pizza away.

“What a shame, that means I get to eat your ice-cream.” Mac smiled.

“Noo! Maac!” Stella begged, “I’m want ice-cream.”

Mac laughed, “Are you sure?” watching Stella nod eagerly, Mac gave in. “Okay then, which flavour?”

“Strawberry.” Stella almost yelled, before she realised that people was staring at her.

“Okay, wait right here.” Mac was about to get up as he heard shots fired, and saw 2 armed men standing looked at all the people in the crowded pizzeria.

“Get down on the floor honey, do it now.” Mac whispered to Stella, she didn’t hesitate for a second, but crawled on her tummy on the floor till she was hidden under the table…
