Dannnnyy!!!’ Mac shouted as Danny ran past his office, ‘You’re gonna be late!’
Mac stood in the door way of his office as Danny impatiently waited for the elevator, ‘Yeh I know, but I made a promise right? Plus I’ll use the lights.’ Mac shook his head as the doors opened and Danny disappeared.
The ride down to the ground floor seemed to take a lot longer than usual but as soon as the doors opened Danny was in his SUV. He had ten minutes to get to Lindsay’s school but unfortunately the journey usually took about 15.
Danny rounded the corner with minutes to spare and finally turned off his lights to not attract attention. Luckily for him people were more concerned with the fact that the bell had just rung. He jumped out of the SUV and jogged into playground just to see children running out of the doors to meet their parents.
Children were talking and laughing as they walked out of the doors. Danny looked around and instantly noticed when Lindsay walked out hand in hand with Lizzie. He smiled as they both looked over at him and waved with big smiles on their faces. They started to jog over and ran over giggling.
‘Hey girls, how was your first day?’ Danny asked.
‘It was great daddy, we played out side,’ Lindsay said.
‘And we painted pictures,’ Lizzie said, ‘and then we mummyyyy…’ Lizzie said as her mum came up to her and hugged her.
‘Did you have a good day Liz?’
Lizzie nodded, ‘Look mummy I made a friend, her names Lindsay,’ Lizzie said proudly as Lindsay smiled shyly.
‘So I guess you two had fun today, right?’ the girls nodded as Lizzie’s mum turned to face Danny and stuck out her hand, ‘Rachel. You’re Danny right?’
‘Yeh that’s me,’ Danny said as he shook her hand, ‘I would stay and talk but I’ve gotta get back to work.’
Rachel smiled, ‘Of course, come on Lizzie lets go home and you can tell me about your day.’
The girls waved at each other and then Lindsay grabbed Danny’s hand, ‘Are we going to the lab Daddy?’ Lindsay asked.
‘Yes sweetie, is that ok?’ Lindsay nodded, ‘But uncle Mac and the other are looking for a bad guy ok? So you’ll have to be good and stay in my office or the break room ok?’ Lindsay nodded and Danny lifted her up, ‘Now I want to here about everything you did today…’
Lindsay smiled proudly, ‘well…’
As they stepped out on to the lab’s floor Lindsay was still in full flow talking about her day, ‘Me and Lizzie really like Miss Winfield because she’s really really nice and she let us play in the sand together. You have to pick partners when we play games and Lizzie’s my partner and I’m her partner!’ Lindsay stopped ad took a deep breath.
‘Wow it sounds like you had lots of fun! I bet you are tierd,’ Danny said as Lindsay yawned, ‘Well Mac said that he was going to get pizza for everyone later so how about you lie down on the sofa in the break room for a while and have a little sleep?’
Lindsay nodded and put her head on Danny’s shoulder, ‘Thank you Daddy,’ Lindsay yawned.
‘For what, Montana?’ Danny asked as he reached the break room and walked over to the sofa.
‘For coming to me instead of a bad guy,’ Lindsay said as Danny covered here in a blanket.
‘Don’t worry Montana, no bad guy would keep me away from you, you’re too special,’ Danny kissed her head and left the break room leaving the five year old dreaming about her first day.
