Carmine Giovinazzo Discussion: The Non-Locker Room Thread

My favorite, for example, is Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss, but he has quite the body of work out there where he is a supporting actor...

Just pick one and go with it

I'd recommend "Fallen Arches" as a good place to start. Well-written, well-directed, well-acted, plenty of screen time for Carmine...

Dive in and watch them all.

To Springmoon and MrsGiovinazzo--thanks! :D

First, I'll go with those recommendations--"Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss" and "Fallen Arches"...it seems to be the most frequently mentioned movies, by both Carmine (in interviews) and people here--I realized that I HAVE watched one of his movies--"Blackhawk Down" but there wasn't much I could say about his performance there...either I didn't recognize him OR I wasn't paying much attention...oh and I think I watched that infamous "make out" scene on YouTube

The Learning Curve on Carmine's end is really great. It could have used a lot more editing. I didn't need a 20 minute long make out scene after they're done driving the cars.
WTF? You may not have needed that scene, but I did.

 It's a terribly boring part of the movie for me. I usually fast forward through it. If it was 2 minutes or so, it would have been fine but it's like, 15 minutes long, FFS!

^ *kicks you hard*
You fast forward through that? I'll admit, I was embarassed that I subjected others to watching that movie with me. The length of the scene did give it a soft core porn feel. None the less, it was hot. I liked it. Could watch it again in slow-mo if I had to.

Wait, there's a super long make out scene? I know what I'm renting this weekend .

I'm still sticking with my idea of Carmine portraying a suave spy or something along the lines of that. Heck, I could also see him playing the bad guy who goes aganist the spy. He would play the bad guy that the audience secretly loves. I'm sure he could sell both roles quite well.

The Learning Curve might be the easiest to find--jkladis located it randomly at Amoeba Records for like $1 and got it for me.

Random Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss story--I remember seeing promos/ads for that movie when it first came out and I really wanted to see it--I love Sean Hayes and Brad Rowe is pretty hot. I can't remember why I didn't see it in the theaters--maybe I couldn't find anyone else to go with? But I remember when someone first posted about Carmine being in that movie, I was like, "Damn, I wanted to see that back when it came out!"

Well, I did say that would be a pretty random story. And it was.

^ Please tell me you eventually saw the movie.

As for jkladis "randomly" finding The Learning Curve at Amoeba, um, I'm not so sure that was as "random" as he many have led you to believe. Are you sure you didn't find it in his possession and he simply tried to justify the existence of his well-worn copy by saying, "Oh, that old thing? I just 'happened' to stumble across that for only a buck and I needed change, so I bought it, but I swear to God I've never watched it. Here, do you want it?"

 I did! I guess I should have finished my totally random story. After I saw the clip on Carmine's site (the one where he's peeing off the side of the boat) I decided that I was going to hunt it down and see it. I liked it fairly well, but I think after all those years of wanting to see it, nothing could live up. Sean Hayes is funnier in Will & Grace, though it was fun to see him in a different role.

We are talking about jkladis here, aren't we? I guess I shouldn't have believed him when he said all those stains on the cover were from when the DVD case was accidentally dropped in a puddle. :( I am so gullable! :(

Yep, that'll close the deal for any fan on the fence about renting it.

I thought Carmine's 5 or less minutes of screen time made the entire movie. I love Sean Hayes, but for some reason he just wasn't cracking me up the way he usually does.

He told me the same thing when I questioned why the pages of his People's Sexiest Men issue were stuck together.

Yeah, that was pretty damn funny. Plus, the man showed ass. I'm a red-blooded woman--I couldn't help it.

I think it's because Sean played the central character. Supporting characters are usually given much more opportunity to be funny, and in comedies they're almost always comic relief or sources of humor (think Carmine in the movie or Sean in W&G). It's a shame--I didn't like the movie quite as much as I was hoping to, but it was fun and I'm glad I finally saw it.

Either jkladis is a real klutz around water or he's lying to us!

I thought that clip was hilarious! Well hilarious and sexy which is always a good combination :D Sadly that's all I think I'm ever going to be able to see of that film, indeed of nearly all Carmine's 'smaller' films as none of them (with the exception of BBR) are available here in the UK. :(

Wow! I finally got caught up on all the reading for this thread. Let me start by adding my applause for starting this wonderful thread. While I will notice a guy's hotness, if there is nothing more, then he won't hold my interest for very long at all. Same goes for threads that are substantiated around a guy's hotness. hehe

Now if I may, here are my $0.02:
I don't really have a fav CSI:NY ep yet. I'm rather fond of all of them. I'd say at the top of my list though are the ones with Eddie Furlong. His character was GREAT and he played it VERY well and the rest of the cast was fan-f******-TASTIC in them!!!

As for his movies, well to be honest I haven't watched any of them beginning to end. I've only seen bits and pieces. Ohh, the horror! THE HORROR! No really though I plan on seeing them once I get a dvd player hooked up at my house. We have VHS but it doesn't work very well. I do have 2 dvd players but haven't really had the time (or space for that matter) to set 'em up.

Regarding roles to see him in: I honestly can see him in just about ANY role, as long as it's written right. He is definitely one actor that I cannot typecast. he reminds me of actors like Tom Hanks & Robin Williams. They can play just about any role, sometimes more than one in a film at a time. hehe
I think someone metioned him playing a character like in "Philadelphia"? Yeah, I could TOTALLY see that!

If a comedy, something that's satirical but not so much something National Lampoonish (unless it's Van Wilder hehe). I don't think I could picture him in a comedy that's Jim Carrey or Michael Myers-ish.

I could definitely see him in an action flick, but not something where it's all explosions and car chases with porn quality dialogue. It would have to have a great script.

In a romantic film? I could see it if it was something like "Mr & Mrs Smith" or "10 Things I Hate About You", a situation where the main characters hate each other at first but they end up falling for each other. Once again, it would have to be written right (no teeny bopper love stuff like what's parodied in "Not Another Teen Movie"). I dunno.. I could possibly see him in something like The Lake House too... I think he'd prolly pull it off better than Keanu did, altho Keanu was awesome in it.

As a bad guy: when I read you guys talking about that I immediately pictured Keifer Sutherland's characer in "Eye for an Eye". Not as a pedophile rapist but for the sheer sinister quality of the character. *shivers* I think his intensity would play very well into that. I could also see him playing Kaiser Soze or something of that nature. BTW that movie made me fall in love with Kevin Spacey as an actor... wow...

I am also with everyone who hopes that they don't turn Danny into eye candy and nothing else. That's just a waste of talent. Any hot guy could have played Danny, "the sexy CSI guy"... Carmine Giovinazzo made him Detective Danny Messer, Forensic Scientist/BAD ASS. I hate to say it because the rest of the cast is so great, but thinking of him leaving made me think of when David Duchovny left "The X-Files". They tried to continue with it, but the cast chemistry wasn't the same. I could be wrong, but I don't think it would ever be the same if he left... or if Gary, Melina, Eddie or Hill left for that matter. Their chemistry together feels right and works very well. I'm not trying to bash Anna by not including her in that, but the writers haven't given her much to work with on her character which leaves me feeling like she's "the new girl", which shouldn't be happening after she's been on the show this long.

For anyone who hasn't seen any of his films and want to know where to start ... where else

THE BIG BRASS RING

Says it all I think

That would be perfect for him. That's exactly the kind of role I think of when people talk about wanting to see him play a bad guy. A calm, intense kind of sociopath.

I agree. Hot guys on tv are a dime a dozen and anyone can play "the sexy CSI guy." But no one can own that role the way Carmine does and it's a shame that sometimes the best the writers can do for him is to have him take his shirt off. Not complaining about the view, but I'd like to see them focus more on where his natural talents lie -- the emotional character-driven storylines -- and less on his sex appeal.

I'm not trying to bash Anna by not including her in that, but the writers haven't given her much to work with on her character which leaves me feeling like she's "the new girl", which shouldn't be happening after she's been on the show this long.
Lindsey is a horribly written character with little development outside her relationship with Danny. Now they're trying to reveal a little of her backstory, but they've gone about it in a half-ass way and taken so long to get there that few viewers have enough emotional investment in Lindsey to give a shit what she's been through. When she goes missing in an episode, it feels as if nothing is lost.

THE BIG BRASS RING

Says it all I think
 Well, I don't know that I'd tell anyone to start there because he doesn't see a whole lot of screen time. The scene at the train station nicely showcases his ability to cry, but ..... um, maybe fans should save that one for after they've built up a healthy respect for his talents in other roles and leave this one for the day they just want a nice visual to get off to. But, if that's what someone is looking for, the opening scene is well worth the cost of the movie.

^^^^^

definitely THE BIG BRASS RING

although I suppose if you want to see Carmine in a lead role then Fallen Arches is the only one where he's had a lead role isn't it
out of all the movies I've seen that's the only one he's had a big chunk of movie for himself.
