Part 10
“Hey, Mr. and Mrs. Detective Taylor.” Flack smiled at his friends.
“It’s Detective Taylor and Bonasera.” Mac corrected him but couldn’t hide his happiness.
“What do we have, Flack?” Stella asked with arms akimbo.
“You’re looking at Erica Campbell. Her boyfriend found her. And…” Flack looked at Stella uncertainly.
“What is it?” Mac asked.
“Her baby was drowned, in the bathroom.” Flack pointed to the bathroom with his pen.
“What?” Stella walked to the bathroom quickly. There was a baby at the bottom of a tub full of water. Stella covered her mouth. “Oh, my god!”
“I want to take her out but I know you wouldn’t like it.” Flack added.
“Stella. Take the mother.” Mac took off his coat, rolled up the shirt sleeves and put on his gloves calmly.
“No, Mac. I can handle this.” Stella couldn’t take her eyes off the baby.
Mac stepped in front of Stella, squeezed her arm lightly. “Go. Take the mother.”
“OK.” Stella left the bathroom reluctantly.
----------------------------------------
Mac knew Stella was feeling sorry for the baby victim in the Campbell case. He went home earlier than usual. It was so quiet in the house and the lights were off. Mac switched on the light in the sitting room. Stella was sitting in the couch with a glass of red wine in hand.
“Stella. Why are you sitting in the dark?” Mac stood behind the couch. He massaged Stella’s shoulders and kissed the top of her head.
Stella kissed the back of Mac’s hand. “It’s so unfair, Mac. Why killed an innocent baby?”
Mac went to sit beside his wife and pulled her into his arms. “I know it’s difficult for you when little kids are involved in the cases.”
“Babies are gifts. We’ve been trying to have our own baby since we are married. I would pay anything in exchange for a baby, even my life.”
“Hey, we are only married four months. We have a lifetime to welcome our babies.”
“Lifetime?” Stella laughed. “You want me to have baby when I’m a granny myself.”
“Why not? We’ll have a lot of children.” Mac put her glass on the coffee table and started to kiss her. Stella surrendered to her husband’s passion and forgot all about the case.
----------------------------------------
Lindsay walked into the locker room. Stella was sitting on the bench holding a package of pregnancy testing kit.
Lindsay was excited and rushed to the side of Stella. “Oh my god! Stella, you are pregnant.”
Stella showed her the sealed box. “I don’t know yet. I’m scared to take the test, Lindsay. What if I failed again? I desperately want a kid with Mac but failed in the last few months. What if I couldn’t conceive?”
“Did you talk to Mac?”
“We talked briefly. I know we have other options to have a kid. But I really want to give birth to my own kids.” Stella’s tears started to fall.
“Hey. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.” Lindsay smiled and squeezed Stella’s hand. “Take the test. Then talk to Mac. So far I’ve never seen anything that could defeat our Mr. and Mrs. Taylor.”
“Thank you, Lindsay. Wish me luck.” Stella went into the toilet.
----------------------------------------
“Mac, I need you to read this report.” Stella smiled sweetly.
“What report is that?” Mac opened the envelope. “An ultrasound image? What…”
Stella gave him an assured smile.
Mac stood up abruptly that he almost kicked off his chair. He went to his wife and held her tightly.
“I know we are in the office but I can’t wait till tonight. I…” Stella’s words were swallowed by Mac’s passionate kiss.
“Hey guys, I told you to behave yourselves.” It was Danny stood by the doorway.
“Can you blame me, Danny? We’re going to have twin babies.” Mac couldn’t hide his happiness.
“Twins! Man, you two are good at everything.” Danny was happy for them.
“Calm down, Mr. Taylor. You wouldn’t be so excited when they cry together.” Stella said.
“Why? Crying is good for the lungs.” Mac kissed his wife once again.
“Alright. I’ll come back later.” Danny left shaking his head.
