Heh heh. "Dean... protect your sister, er- I mean brother! Yeah, protect your brother!" (John starts to kick himself for accidentally revealing Sam's secret to Dean).
I'm thinking it's going to be something like, "Sam is the key to killing the demon" or something like that. Which might explain why Dean was ready to just give up the ghost when he thought Sam was a goner. I find that this darker, nihilistic side of Dean really affected me; the whole episode just felt darker. He's always the one who won't give up, and keeps pushing them onward, so when he acted ready to give up it really depressed me.
I don't know- I guess I look at Sam as being sort of the "key" to the show, and probably the focal point to an extent (hey, "A"comes before "P" and yet Jared still gets his name first in the credits. ) but Dean to me is the heart and soul; he's the do-er, and the protector. Without him, Sam would be screwed, methinks. So, again, when the heart and soul have lost their spirit... well, it was just really depressing!
On a funny note, in addition to that "Mr. Rogers" bit (and I also liked the guy's response to Dean's "You have a neighbour named Mr. Rogers?": "Not any more." classic.) I loved that moment when the guy shows up to the clinic and says, "Has anyone seen my parents?" and Dean sort of looks away and mumbles, "Awwwwwkward." That had me freaking giggling like an idiot. The guy has amazing comedic timing.
