Speed/Rory #14: Speedism Preservation Society

^ I'm not sure I have as much faith as you guys, so...lol.

I saw Innocent for the first time last night on my dvd - how lovely the ending was :) I guess the writers just lulled us into a false sense of security for S3, when really, the big shocker is coming at the beginning of that season. :(

Anyways, I *loved* Speed in this epi - for me, this has got to be up there with Wannabe. He was so nice sticking up for that girl in the park when he was looking for the dog. I liked his "how about I just arrest you for harrassing this young lady?" line  And his conversation toward the end of the episode with her was great too - we were treated to a slightly deeper insight to Speed's character than what we normally get :)rolleyes:), because you could see that he honestly didn't think of her as any different because she was a porn star. To him, she was still a human being, and thought she was a nice girl, despite what she did for a living. Well, that's how I interpreted it anyways.

I thought that was wonderful :) and I wonder whether Speed ever did call her afterwards about coffee?

Even though it's been a long time since we've had to discuss spoilers concerning Speedle in here. I feel a little...Nostalgic.

 This is true...

But if this was their way of easing him back into the show, I was thinking, what would the one death flashback mean? That Horatio is remembering Speed's death because it was faked, or just because he's guilt tripping that another one of his team is shot right in front of him... Ohhhh... the possibilities... :D

Ugh, I hate all this time difference nonsense, everyones on a different times and then have to attempted to reply to a million posts haha

I'm glad I'm not alone - I think if I ever happened to see Rory one day, walking down the street or something, I'd just stare for a moment and then go "Ooohhhh, Speed!!! You're still alive" I think I need to see Rory in some things other than Miami to appreciate him as a real person, rather than the wonderful Speed I know and love He's apparently quite a cool guy from what I've heard, and he seems nice from a couple of interviews I've seen.

I'd love to meet him, and I do hold out hope that I will, I don't care if he lives on a different continent to me haha,

I think he comes across as 'bored out of his mind in interviews' lol well the couple I've seen he looks ready to snooze off haha
thnks 4 the reference to Speed's shirt in Wannabe. I went and re-watched that scene, and I can't believe I didn't notice it before

It took me the 2nd viewing of the episode to notice, I thought to myself *hang on did I see what I thought I saw then?* LOL

There is no way I'm going to be able to waiting until next year to see new Speed :( :( :(

I agree Wibble. I absolutely loved Innocent. One of my favorites for sure!

 Oh believe me, I'm not expecting anything huge or even remotely full of continuity, but dreaming up the possibilities are so much fun. :D Keeps us Speed fans going I guess. :p

That's how I saw the scene as well. He didn't judge her for what she did for a living. (Quite a contrast from the way he treated the victim in 'Rap Sheet'.) I liked this side of Speedle. He was such a sweetie to her. :D And I liked his "I've never seen any of your...Movies." I just had to say a great big "AWW" for that part! :) Loved him there.

As for ever calling Sara up for coffee? It would have been great but seeing as we jumped right to the premier and then....Well Speed didn't las 25 minutes into the episode. But it would have been nice to hold off his departure until season four, and then develop him a little more. (Of course Rory wanted out, and what Rory wants, well, Rory gets :p)

And that is because Rory is a God. What they should have done was given him more character development sooner, so that he wouldn't have wanted to leave ;)

Lol, yeah, even though I haven't seen him die yet. I've decided I'm gonna start watching S3 tomorrow night when I have time to watch 2 episodes back-to-back. That way I'll hopefully try and move on with the whole "Speed's gone" thing more quickly if I see an epi without him straight afterwards. However, I do have a couple of boxes of tissues ready...

I agree, it would have been fantastic if Rory had stayed another season, so we could at least see more of the side to Speed that we witness in Innocent with the porn star girl. I think the scenes with her were really the icing on the cake for me - I've felt through most of S2 that I've been on an express train travelling along the Speed Character line, and after making several stops at stages of development along the way, those scenes with the porn star in the final episode made me feel like I'd reached my final destination on the train.

How I would love to get off that train and onto another one into the unknown for S3 :( So much could happen with Speed...man, I kinda wish the writers had made him stay and stick out his contract, but I guess that's just selfish if Rory wasn't happy

And as for Speed coming back, I think there is only one situation where I would have faith and it would be believable for me, and that's if he had to "die" because he had some information on a criminal(s) and had to be put into witness protection until their trial. *shrug* That's just my personal opinion though :) and I'm sure many of us wouldn't care how he came back, as long as he did

ETA: Megan, I totally agree. In some ways, I feel Speed was wasted in S1 because he was in the background so much. It's such a pity TPTB didn't write scenes like those in Wannbe and Innocent for him in S1 episodes :(

I'd like to write a crossver and do VampireSpeed myself...he could nibble on my neck anytime *giggle*

Yeah, he was very much overlooked and underestimated/understated in season one :(

And here's the second Speedism poll. I there aren't very many, so I thought about doing three episodes, but decided to stick with two. I'm setting it for two days again. Time to vote!

By the way, wibble, I love your banner ;)

Also, this is like my third time trying to get this poll up

 Don't worry Megan, we're a patient folk in here. :p Third time's a charm. ;)

And I absolutely loved all the Speedims there, but I had to go with the most sarcastic ones that made me giggle. :D

They should just give him his own show. Then they can have a CSI:Miami/Rory's show crossover so we can cheat and have Speed back anyway. :p

I agree with that too. His character didn't seem to serve much of a purpose in season 1, aside from letting us know who is higher up in rank. - Speed was almost always seen on a case with Horatio because he's his right-hand man.

In season two they broke away from that and gave each character a role that made them all an intregal part of the team, and each of their expertise showed up in many ways to contribute to solving the case.

We finally knew that Speed was the Trace Man, Calleigh was the Bullet Girl and Eric was the Dive Man. (Not that we hadn't seen that in season 1, but Megan and Horatio's roles were all over the place that it kind of clouded everyone's purpose)

Erm...So back to Speed. I had a point to that, I really did. Anyway, point being, Speed's character was completely wasted in season 1. There was absolutely no direction in his character because of how everyone else was written, and the kinks that one would expect in the beginning of a series.

There was so much potential with his character, and instead tptb treated it like b/s. And I agree with what you said about direction 110%, Geni. After everything was said and done, we finally got to know that Speed was the go-to man for trace plus tptb then dangle a couple of nice character development episodes in front of us...

...to take it all away. No wonder Rory got fed up! I would be too if I was in his position. It's ridiculous really; shows that tptb don't care about the character and have no respect for the actor who wasn't leaving b/c of money, but was leaving because he wasn't growing as an actor. :(

And I know someone mentioned ratings if they brought back Speed...yeah, the ratings would go through the roof. I was looking at the NY Nielsen numbers in the paper this morning on my way to to work... CSI:LV was at #2 and CSI:NY was at #6 or 7.

There was no mention of CSI:Miami at all. Hmm, that's telling, if you ask me.

ok. i really hate the time thing on the quick reply cuz i just had this huge thing typed and then it didn't go through ha so now instead of a big insite into what i think about speed and sara and 'innocent' being a great episode(its also one of my favorites, i love gentle speedle <3) but instead i'm just going to say that i agree 100% with what you have all said.
and i feel the same way about them just dwindling rorys talent in season one, they didn't give him much to work with at all which is dissappointing because IMO rory was the best actor on the show. and TPTB just wasted there time and his on some of the story lines the gave him. there was so much potential for great speedle story lines and the writers never went through with it. and i know this sounds bitter but whatever, i fricken hate how on the s3 miami season feature thing that fricken anne donahue kept saying they had to kill speedle. so stupid.

GRRRRRR...... have I ever mentioned I hate her?

I haven't seen the 3rd season dvds.....they're not out in australia yet, here you can only get upto the first 3 discs of 2nd season :(

I could go on for about an hour about this subject but I would only be repeating what everyone else in here said.

I must say though, I have watched Lost Son 3 times, twice before Rory grew on me and only once since I fell in love with him lol and I couldn't watch it, from when the credits roled I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach...dreading what was going to happen. I made myself hysterical

I can honestly say I don't think I'll watch that episode ever again, it is just too upsetting for me lol

CSI:Miami ratings are down in the UK aswell compared to the other 2.
The CSINY season 2 repeat was beating CSIM Season 4 first run.

None of the Csi's get in the top 20 of any week ever though, American shows never do over here. Highest I've ever known was 9 million for Friends finale. That was a top 5 show that week.

I think Miami's ratings went down exponentially since season 3. Not only because our dear Speed bit the proverbial dust, but because the storylines continued to get more and more grandiose, and had less substance and quality. I liked season two because it had my favorite character, and it had small episodes that made an impact. They didn't need big fancy storylines or a huge budjet for explosions and expensive cars.

I thought it was the story and the characters that mattered. Guess season three and four proved us wrong.

I can't watch 'Lost Son' for so many reasons, but what I've said above (and what else was said by others) is basically the gist. Not only did we lose a great character, but the show kind of went with him. I absolutely hate watching that episode because I know what's to come in later plotlines and it's almost disgusting. *shivers*

At least when we had Speed, we had something pretty too look at if the episode wasn't so hot.
