I'm very confused by that as well. Not just that he's an expert on art theft, but it doesn't seem that he's the typical detective like they've said. The promo went by pretty quickly, but I don't recall seeing him in police uniform or the usual detective attire, so I have to wonder if he's going into this as a soon to be CSI, instead of a right-hand man for Frank - especially given that they've up & decided to have him as a regular opposed to guest star.

I will say art theft in Miami might be a nice change of pace though. It's different than the norm at least.

Here's the promo clip for 'Bolt Action'

Walter is in a lab coat -- not lookin' like a detective to me. Tiny glimpse of Eric in there too.

    Ryan: Catfight at 2 o'clock
    Natalia: :eek::wtf:

    :guffaw:

Thanks for the promo clip. You may be right about Walter, and if so why another CSI? I wonder if TPTB are thinking of a 2 case format eventually.
I had no idea what Ryan said to Natalia because the promo was so fast.Catfight huh,I wonder who that involves?

IF Walter is a soon to be CSI, that would make 6 CSIs. IMO, that's still too many even if they are trying to pull off 2 cases. Vegas & NY both had bad experiences with bringing in new faces at the same time (Ray/Riley; Hawkes/Lindsay) & they've both admitted it was too much & that it became a problem. With Jesse, Walter, & also the few episodes of the new ME, it just seems like an awful lot all crammed into the first quarter of the season.

That is way too many CSI's.There is a lesson to be learned from Vegas and NY when dealing with all the new faces.Miami should take notice, neither show was able to devote the time or development each new character needed.

^ Miami can't even manage to devote time & development to Natalia, Ryan, or Frank - so, oh ok let's bring in 3 new faces? Put down the crack pipe, ptb. :wtf:

I totally agree with ALL of you!! This is some freeze dried bullsh*t!! Give me a break....you let Adam go b/c it is pretty apparent you didn't want to pay him but you go and hire 2 new actors for the show? I am not gonna count the M.E. b/c that role needed to be filled. But seriously, as you have all said, the writers can't write for the people they have....

This is such a cop out. They can't write for the people they have so they bring in new people in order to give themselves fresh new story ideas. This is a joke and while I like Omar Miller, another CSI/Cop/whatever on this show is NOT needed. I said this in the Hostile Takeover thread, unless the writers move away from "H this and H that" stories (which last night's ep was) nothing is ever going to change and an overloaded cast will just mean less time for everyone and everything! So far the writers haven't "gone back to basics" at all imo. It is the same old thing just seemingly being called by another name. I have to say that I totally agree with Joe Navarro, the retired FBI agent and expert on non-verbal communication who analyzed Horatio's famous stance....his interpretation says it all imo. And again, unless the writers move away from that then stories and screentime will remain as is.....fleeting, minimal and meaningless.

Too many people and not enough screentime to go around....this is usually the kiss of death for some shows or at the very least, as we have seen, their actors! I hope that Omar joining the cast doesn't mean that in a few months we will be hearing about another long time cast member setting sail for greener pastures. Cuz we all know what happened the last time they added a new series regular. :shifty:

If Walter is the ME and the guy from Boston Legal, I completely agree. He was extremely good and funny in Boston Legal.

Walter isn't the ME. Walter is a younger guy who joins the team in the next episode. He's played by Omar Miller (from 11th Hour). He kind of looks like a younger Forrest Whitaker.

^^ I think you might be thinking of Christian Clemenson (Sp?) - he is the new ME for several episodes. Walter (Omar Miller) is the art theft specialist/former night shift worker, possibly detective, possibly CSI.

Imo, the screentime issues have nothing to do with Horatio's stance or him being superH. The arc/screentime issues the past few seasons were, in part, jacked up because of a very heavily focused storyline - E/C. The problems now will be because of all these new introductions - I don't see how "Super H" has anything to do with that - if it were the case, then Jesse, nor Calleigh would ever have any good screentime either - Jesse seems to be doing just fine with his screentime, & Calleigh has gotten the better bulk of drama since S6. Not everything always boils down to H/DC.

GNRF, sorry doll, you got here before me :p

I agree with you, MJ. I think the screentime issues have to do with the writers and the rest of tptb. Vegas fixed their screentime issues in their premiere. Hopefully it'll stay that way. And hopefully Miami's screentime issues will improve as well.

I also read what this retired FBI agent had to say and it made me wonder if he's ever really watched CSI Miami or if he's basing his assessment on one or two clips he's watched.

Horatio has never emoted superiority. He is cautious and purposely non-confrontational until he's very sure of what he's dealing with. He keeps very neutral in both body language and verbal communication until he's sure. A lot of times Horatio is the observer while one of the team interviews the suspect so that he can evaluate their verbal and body language.

Once he's sure, he's committed to finding justice for the victim and then he will get in the suspect's face.

Unlike the gentleman in Lie to Me who is in the suspect's face and beating his chest about what he's going to do and what he sees and what he thinks the suspect has done or will do. He's pompous - something Horatio never is.

This retired FBI agent didn't impress me at all, but I knew that his assessment would impress others who enjoy when Horatio/DC is criticized.

I agree totally with this, MJ. A lot of those who challenge Horatio's screen time didn't complain at all when Eric and Calleigh were the focus of the show and everyone else took a backseat.

I complained A LOT about Eric and Calleigh and their relationship being the primary storyline and I did my fair share of complaining about what I thought was wrong with Horatio in the past 3 seasons.

Yes, Horatio's been distant and detached in the last couple of seasons. His storylines indicate why. But when Calleigh acts cold and heartless because of events happening in her storyline, of course she just keeping it all in and trying to hide how upset she really is. With Horatio, he just cold and unfeeling. It's all based upon whether you like the character or not - and unfortunately in a lot of cases how you feel about the actor portraying the character. I've been guilty of that and I'm working very hard on it.

Contrary to what some want to believe and perpetuate, the actors do not run the show and there is no evidence whatsoever that supports the contention that I've seen posted elsewhere that some scenes were taken from one actor and given to another. Believe me, I've heard my fair share of horror stories about an individual on that set and isn't Caruso! It's all in the perspective of the individual and their likes and dislikes will play a large part of their view on the subject.

We get critical posts that contain pure speculation that somehow becomes fact as the anger and frustration escalates and someone is targeted to shoulder the blame. Unfortunately the blame is more often than not aimed at the same person on this show.

But no one is going to rain on my parade. I think season 8 is off to a really good start. I love what David is doing with Horatio. I think Jesse fits perfectly. Really loved Ryan last night and we even got Rick! Still gotta see more of Natalia and Frank and I'm not too sure I want to see Calleigh go dark, but they've got my interest.

It was strange to see them all together at the end of the show last night. Very strange. But they all seemed happy and it was the first time in a long time we've seen the entire team together smiling.

I'll take it and hope that we see much more!

He has played lots of sheriff's or lawyers ;) Ok, I used to LOVE Boston Legal and still do (even it's ended) and I don't know how long does it take for me to see CC in such a role as ME

But he is a great actor.
