That list? Well I know one thing, I personally can't see Ethan Hawke take on the lead role. To me he just don't seem to have the right....whats the word? But he could be a big surprise. If I had to choose, again I think the only one I could envision playing the part would be Jimmy Smits...but perhaps that is only because I used to watch him on NYPD blue and I already have an idea of what he would be like in this situation.

I still vote for Sharp's idea  though. Make George lead, and bring Liz back.

Jimmy Smits was in the defunct "CANE" it was great and got canceled, then he was in this year's "OUTLAW", and was riveting and great, but alas it also got canceled. poor guy. I wonder if the salary would be the right fit for him, and on Ethan Hawke, too big of a name again, that's not happening as I see it:( Who knows if these stars are even on the "list":confused:I highly doubt if Liz would consider coming back, I believe she's moved on. Would you come back to a show that let you go?

The idea of Jimmy Smits joining the show has grown on me. And I like that while he is well known, he isn't as big a name as Fishburne and thus would probably be cheaper. All the actors I really want are all taken though. Stupid NY taking Sela Ward... *mumble grumble* ;)

I still want Liz to return or Louise to come back regularly. It never hurts to dream.

I keep reading the fans want this, the fans what that and that TBTB should listen to what the fans want – namely to bump the original cast to lead status, to not bring in a ‘big name’ actor and if they do bring in a new cast member to make sure that they under no circumstance overshadow the existing cast, etc. etc. But is that really indicative of what the general CSI viewership wants? It's not as if the fans speak as one voice.

I think it’s mainly individual fan groups who care about these things and let’s face it the vast majority of TV viewers rarely get emotionally involved with a specific character/actor and just enjoy a show for the great stories and the entertainment it provides. I bet a vast number of viewers barely know the names of the actors of their favourite show. The same applies to CSI viewers I’m sure. Of the 11 to 12 million viewers that CSI has on average, how many do you think care who the new lead is or how much individual screen time each actor gets? I am guessing a few thousand at most.

I’ve never bought into this idea that TPTB listen to what the ‘fans’ want and that they’ll do whatever suits them. I think sometimes they luck out and make a decision that finds favour with a lot of people and which in turn allows some fans believe they were being listened to.

My suggestion for a new cast member - Kelli Williams (Private Practice, Lie To Me). I think she'd be a great fit. And make Mark Vann/Ecklie a full time cast member. To me he is the most multi dimensional character of the lot.

I pretty much agree with all this. While I suspect the writers may read some fan boards (realizing any board's bias, of course), I doubt that the network execs actually do. And they are the ones making the contract decisions, which are done from a purely financial perspective.
I've mentioned before that I don't want a big film star, but a recognizable tv star would be good. It should be someone who can bring in some of their own fans, and viewers.

Jimmy Smits might work, although for me he's typecast more as a detective or attorney.
My suggestions: Donald Logue (seasoned, and a little rough around the edges; would make a great character that would be different from anything we've had). Or, Kevin Alejandro (just awesome all around). Kelli Williams would be a good replacement for Marg. Even with the 'Ecklette' coming on, more females would be welcome. Besides, I think I read somewhere that females are now outnumbering males in RL forensics jobs.

I'm increasingly curious as to what tptb will come up with. I'm surprised there haven't been any 'leaks'; they should at least be talking to people. Maybe they want to finalize the contracts of the originals before announcing anyone new.

Heh, yeah I agree with this. But sometimes it feels good to bitch and think that what you're saying is being heard.

You're right of course and my previous post was solely my 'bitch session' of the moment;)

Maybe if tptb had faith in their cast, in the first place, not everyone would want less episodes.

Seriously? I thought cast members wanted fewer episodes because they were tired of the grind and they wanted time off to go do something else, not because their noses were out of joint because they couldn't do ALL the work. Silly me.

Well, sorry, I still don't believe Jorja left because she was tired of the grind.

Marg and Billy were the only one's who said that.

I also said 'not everyone'.

And I'm sure all there noises are out of joint that they brought in a huge name to replace Petersen when all of them could have carried the show.

Just because they 'don't say it', doesn't make it any less true.

Besides, George himself said he wouldn't have been happy if Fishburne was brought in as the supervisor.

That should give you a clue.

Excuse me. I distinctly remember Jorja saying something about "wanting to get off the ride for awhile". She also mentioned things she wanted to do. What else was there? A conspiracy to by TPTB to get her booted off the show? She didn't like her character development? Everyone believes what they want to believe. That doesn't mean it's true.

You're sure the original cast's noses were out of joint because they brought in LF when they thought they could carry the show? Sounds like projection to me.

"Just because they 'don't say it', doesn't make it any less true." Huh?

As for what George said...Hello? LF WASN'T brought in as a supervisor. And your point is....what?

I also remember reports that Jorja wasn't getting the money she wanted and that's the reason she left. Even some of her fans sent the producers money to pay her so she would stay.

It goes with what I say that just because the actors 'say' they were happy LF was brought in doesn't mean they 'actually' mean it.

It still doesn't change the fact tptb apparently have no faith in their cast to carry the show.

And yes, the new person should genuflect to the original cast.

Bolding is mine...not to get nitpicky on this discussion but all we can ever go by is what we hear the actors say. Now I realize there are people who are actually in "the know" still doesn't negate the fact that for the most part unless it comes out of the horse's mouth...it's mere speculation...

It goes with what I say that just because the actors 'say' they were happy LF was brought in doesn't mean they 'actually' mean it.

Or, they actually did mean it. But that thought is so repulsive to everyone who hates LF/Ray that, again, you believe what you want to believe, whether it has basis in actual fact or not.
