Now That Petersen, Fox, Dourdan Are Gone

I miss Billy so much that I started re-watching my CSI DVDs starting right at the beginning with Season 1.

It always amazes me how much Grissom changed over the years...and I'm not talking looks wise...lol. His whole personality started changing after Holly's death and his subsequent move to Supervisor. It's a testament to Billy's acting skills that the change is so gradual that by the time we reach seasons 7,8 and 9, we have all but forgotten that Grissom wasn't always so serious and within himself.
Just watch how touchy-feely he was with Holly in "Pilot" and you'll see what I mean.

I completely agree with everything that you said...It's a HUGE testament to Billy's phenomenal acting abilities & his knowledge of how to develop a character; some people took that the completely opposite direction and said that his character development made Grissom worse, and that Billy had let Grissom go...SO NOT TRUE!
Billy was merely preparing Grissom to leave...he did it with the character development & with the circumstances Grissom was put into and the things he went through leading up until he left. Billy is a freaking GENIUS and I SO love him :) Billy, you ROCK.

Well, I think the "Pilot" was different because it was, well, the Pilot. At that point they are still feeling out the characters and trying to figure out the best way to portray them. I think the cast as a whole has really grown. I mean, not many shows get to 200, while still keeping fans intrigued. The cast and crew, past and present, have done such an amazing job. This show, I believe, will really go down as one of the best shows on TV period. The cases, the characters, the actors; all such fundamental pieces of this show.

Yeah, I mean it's pretty common for shows who have a cast who truly gets along and works well together, and has the kind of relationships that the cast of CSI (and NCIS...Mark Harmon actually made this comment ;p) has, to last this long...CSI has scored BIG with their cast, in both talent and chemistry and in their crew, especially writers, who know what the heck they are doing and listen to US as fans and know what makes a good show. I mean look at all the spin-off/wanna be CSI Vegas shows there are! :)

Yes, "Pilot" was the pilot, but even in "Cool change", "Crate and Burial", "Pledging Mr. Johnson" et al, there is a lightness of being in Grissom's character that is slowly and inexorably crushed out of him by circumstances, starting with Holly's death and his promotion to Supervisor, and continuing on as more and more of the responsibility of his job(ie: paperwork) becomes increasingly evident to him.

I agree that the whole cast is amazing and that the show should go down as one of the best on TV.

Yes, it wasn't Billy who was letting the Grissom character go...it was his evolution of the character responding to many things in his life that changed Grissom. I really don't understand why other people don't get that and are upset that Grissom changed. People in real life change, thank god. I know that I'm not the same person that I was at 17 or 25, or even 2 years ago. Life experiences mature us and let us look at things differently.

I think Billy, Gary and Jorja all did an exceptional job showing how much their characters had changed over the years.

The character Grissom did change over the years, I think the horror of the whole murder, kidnapping, disfigured people, pedophiles, serial killers, freaks and weirdos etc. finally got to him. Who could do this and stay sane? After his girl left, he realized there was more to life than this, and he was losing his perspective, and his enthusiam, and his zest that once motivated and thrilled him. One never knows the 'last straw' till it happens, the death of his beloved Warrick and Sara leaving was to overwhelming for him to stay. And the actor Billy is a genuis, planning his exit with such precision and in a timely manner. He is sorly missed and it's hard to watch without him, not to mention how I miss that handsome face:p I hope he does return for an occasional visit~

Maybe you missed a post I made a few pages ago, but obviously there will be CSI after Grissom. It is a reality that some are happy to hear. It's almost like your wishing failure upon the show...

UH, this tread is about WP and how we miss him and the other two characters that are gone, not about CSI, in general, I never said anything about the show surviving, I was talking about Billy and the other 3 characters that are missed:confused: He's only been gone a short time and his super fans miss him with every beat of our hearts, and can't say "OH, gee, he's gone moving on" maybe in 5 years but not now. He had a overwhelming powerful screen presence, and was perfect in this role, and born to play Grissom. I think LF is doing a fabulous job, and so far am enjoying his performances, and love the rest of the cast, but it's not about it or them. it's about him, and his other co-horts that are now gone!

You're right, DW :) I think LF is doing fine....although he's no Billy ;)

There WAS talk of the show's future, and there still is, but nobody is saying the show is going to fail, and even if they are, it's their opinion, it's not set-in-stone fact, and nothing to get upset about...there has been a lot of speculation as to the show's future, and that's fine- it's natural.
And, as was discussed in faaar earlier posts, some people don't feel that the show is capable of surviving with either the quality it did, or the ratings it had, when Billy/Grissom was there- that again, is personal opinion and is fine...I'm half on that bandwagon myself.

Nobody is trying to go around preaching doom and gloom for CSI because clearly we are all loyal to the show and the actors/actresses still on it. Nobody wants the show to fail...it doesn't deserve to fail...that's not what this thread is about- it's about in a way, mourning and moving on from, the losses of Gary, Jorja, and most of all, Billy.

Anyways, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but that is/was a topic of discussion, and everyone is allowed to say "I'm still watching the show" or "I quit watching because Billy left". The show still has it's ratings and it still has it's regular watchers/fans, and that's all that matters.

I'm referring to the little smiley that is posted at the end stating No Grissom: No CSI. To me, that is just kind of jab to the rest of us. Just as you don't like us telling you to get over the fact that he's gone, we don't like certain people stating that there is or will be No CSI without Grissom.

I completely understand the point of the thread, I just think it is kind of a jab at the reamining actors (as if they'll ever see it, but still, it's principle) who are on the show by saying No Grissom: No CSI. I know it is an opinion, it's just insensitive in my opinion. It's almost like you are taking away vaule from the remaining stars.

This thread is about CSI in general because it also discusses the future of the show, which includes present and future ratings. The thread is called :Now That Petersen, Fox, and Dourdan are Gone" This means we can talk about the remaining stars and the future of the show, not JUST the departed.

I personally think that CSI has gotten better. Plus with the addition of LF and LLS the show is fresher and it may be a bit different now but in a good way. IMO the show has a great future ahead of it.

However that being said I don't want to see anyone else leave, as long as Marg, George, Eric, and Paul stay CSI will be around awhile.

Agree with this post 100 per cent. I think the show is fresher. The additions are awesome. It's got a different feel to it. I'm liking it.

I know what you mean kimbo, I'm asking myself this: why continue watching the show? If George left, I'd probably stop watching it. Having said that it would depend on who they replaced him with.

When Clooney left, I felt that way until they brought in the actor who plays Luka:drool:. Then I was like "Hello!" I'm gonna stick around for a bit and check this out.

I was just talking to my mom today about CSI and she was saying how she really likes the show with LF in it. She was a doubter at first because she really likes WP but she likes the show a lot still. And she is not someone who even knows how to go on the internet to post about the show.

I think all that we accomplished in this was saying that everyone can state their opinion...lol
The smiley is still a matter of opinion, but I understand what you mean about it coming off to some as a jab; but there are things people say to those on the opposite side that are jabs as well; I guess it's a give and take thing, although hopefully people see them as what they are: opinions, and don't take too much personally ;p

And I never said that you couldn't discuss the current show as it is and the actors/actresses that remain; I was just saying that part of the point of it is to miss the actors/actresses that are gone, and to talk about it, but yeah, it was never said to leave discussion about the show NOW out of it ;p

I know what you mean, but I'm just letting other people know how things are perceived by other people. I'm not saying you have to acknowledge it, or even care about what I'm saying, I'm just stating it.

Everyone's allowed to have their opinion. I'm not saying they're not, I'm just saying some opinion's come of as well, ignorant, and that's my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

Back on track, does anyone know what Gary is doing now? I haven't heard much about him at all.
