VEGAS NEWS ;)

Paula Abdul- judge on "AMERICAN IDOL' won't get high marks from her fellow airline passengers, and she might be hearing from Homlena security officials/ According to an Abdul spokesman, the former snger/dancer was running late Thursday, trying to make her Southwest flight at McCarran International Airport in Vegas, when a group of fans mobbed her. A Southwest representative at the scene whisked her through a back access bypassing security, and onto the Los Angeles plane. However, upon arrival in Burbank, it was announced that security had been breached, and that no one could leave the plane until the re-screening process was compeleted. Abdul, whos time line was in serious question was trying to make the flight so she wouldn't miis AM show. A Southwest rep. who was asked to respond did not return a call by the deadline. In January, two employees at the Silverton Casion/Hotel accused Abdul of having them fired from their graveyard jobs because she says they caused her to miss her flight then  boo-hoo- these employees are pissed off- at her

CONCERT NEWS  Review for THE ROLLING STONES ;)

Where-MGM Grand--Saturday- March 4--Attendance-14,000 (sold out)

Just a few highlights-What can you say about the "STONES"? they still rock--even when their as predictable as the Las Vegas weather ;)--There were plenty of sharp moments- in their 20-song riffs. like 'Midnight Rambler- 10 minutes long- and still the best-- Frontman Mick Jagger's voice never wavered-sounded as though it had been preserved in amber. He turns every song into an exhoration, a sweaty call to arms, even when he's singing about a no-good chick--which is often--and Keith Richards- sly licks on the guitar still the best- and on an on- to read the entire article go to LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL

LAS VEGAS IS A CANDIDATE FOR NASCAR ROAD SHOW

NASCAR's Hall of Fame is bound for Charlotte, N.C., but could get a sneak preview. A 2010 opening is planned, but traveling exhibitions to major markets are expected and Las Vegas "would be a great stop for it" according to Mark Dyer, NASCAR's vice president of licensing and marketing. Las Vegas has a good chance of landing the road show before the Hall of Fame opens, he said. And Dyer's Las Vegas ties won't hurt the cause. The owner of the NASCAR Cafe at the Sahara from 2000 to 2005 was NASCAR's point man on the Hall of Fame project. "here's probably not a whole schedule, as far as the whole weekend of activity----Vegas stands at the top, he siad

March is the 75th anniversary of legalization of casino gambling in Nevada

More than three-quarters of a century ago this happened. Wide-open gambling remains the straw that stirs the state's tourism drink. Whilte Las Vegas resorts garner increasing shares of revenue from non-gambling sources-hotel rooms, restaurants, retail, nightclubs, shows and spas---gambling winnings have always been the revenue stream that flows most readily from the top to the bottom line. Strip and Las Vegas locals casions are in the midst of a boom, and another major surge in Strip development is just getting underway. legalized casino gambling allowed entrepreneurs to win the money to build bigger resorts with better amenties. Those nicer resorts draw more and wealthier visitors, and the money they spend allows the growth cycle to continue. It took nearly five decades for other states to compete in the casino business, a head start that has allowed the Strip and visionary developers to easily fend off competitors in Atlantic City, mid-America and tribal venues with our tough-to-top array of hotel rooms, easy airport access, convention spaces and attractions. So, as you flip your omelettes ans sip your Bloody Marys while reading the paper-raise your glass and toast the state lawmakers who hatched Nevada's golden goose---and the casino developers and tourists who have allowed it to thrive
