    CELINE BIDS ADIEU

A sentimental Celine Dion said she will forever remember Caesars Palace as the site of her son's first steps, and 'his first potty training', as she told the Governors Conference on Tourism on Thursday at Caesars Palace. Gov. Jim Gibbons presented Dion, whose 4 1/2 year run at Caesars Palace ends Saturday, with the newly created Nevada Enternainer of the New Millenium Award. The award recognized Dion from "entertaining millions and changing the lives of all Nevadans through her commitment to philanthorpic giving" Nevada's frist lady Dawn Gibbons gifted Dion with a Nevada-mined turquoise necklace. Dion told the gathering she will miss her life in Las Vegas and thanked her husband/manager Rene Angelil for "taking the big gamble" he loves to play the games here" she said. earlier this week, he won $1 million in a no-hold-buy-in-no-limit Texas poker game he put in $100,000, an won the big prize

Celine Dion's superfans showed up en masse Saturday for her last performance farewell at Caesars Palace. Among the faithful making the pilgrimage for Dion's 717th performance of "A NEW DAY" was Ramona Almirez of san Jose, CA., who has attended more than 100 shows, and paid $225 for seats. Grammy winning composer/producer David Foster, one of the final-show attendees, said Dion helped bring entertaning back to Las Vegas. "The city had gotten so lackluster for a whil. She brought a vibrancy. I think one might compare her to Steve Wynn's" Some celebrities who showed up were were suppossed to be Oprah, but she was feeling under the weather, but Criss Angel. Tom Cruise, and Katie Holmes, plus more were in the audience. Elvis is still the most successful entertainer in the history of Las Vegas, with 837 shows from July 1969, to Dec. 1976. Dion flew in more than 100 family and friends from Canada, including her entire Montreal ofice to see her finale!!
