Episode 9x02 - 'Sudden Death' ***CONTAINS SPOILERS***

So for me, the script yesterday was a bit like an exam paper where a student wrote the paper extremely well until he or she came to the very last bit and had a mini brain block so decided to write some random stuff that didn't fit in with past events or make any sense to anyone reading. I would love to write to the writers and tell them that but I don't know how!

I agree...I would like to write to them as well(not only this, but few other stuff to complain about), but don't know how...not living in the US I can't complain about new timeslot unfortunately, but I'm surprised by higher ratings...

I didn't mind Horatio helping another wayward, beautiful, young woman with son who has obviously mad a poor career choice. It's true to his character- it seems like there is some jealousy afoot in some of these responses. Miami is all about the *beautiful people* it's part of what sells the show in addition to the reddy-kilowatt coloring of the city. If people don't like that, then they really don't like Miami.

I'm sorry, but "jealous" because I'd like to see them get back to having some victims that are easier for us common folk to identify with? :wtf: You're going to have to explain that one to me.

In the first two seasons, the CSI Miami I fell in love with, there was a very comfortable mix of wealthy, beautiful victims and middle-class to poor victims. Some of the most heart-wrenching stories were stories that weren't about the "beautiful people."

In the beginning Miami WASN'T just about the "beautiful people". It was about all different types of people. It was representative of all types of people who live in Miami - not just those who frequent the "hot clubs of South Beach."

I became tired a long time ago of the entertainment world centering around the Paris Hilton's of this world. Rich, spoiled people behaving badly are not my idea of entertainment. For those who do find it entertaining, you can find plenty of it out there. They are partying all night working hard to supply you with garbage for the next day's news cycle for your consumption. There is no part of me that wants that pathetic lifestyle. Jealously does not enter into the picture here. I could go with disgust, however.

For once I'd like to see normal, middle-class to poor people get some help. And while I'm defined as "middle-class", I'm not a victim of any crime, nor am I struggling in any way. I'm one of the lucky ones. But if wanting this show to go back to every once in a while making the victim someone you can actually route for makes me look "jealous" :wtf: in your eyes ... wow, so be it!

This episode was one of the best episodes I've enjoyed since S4. I might add, tptb did a good job with the editing. :) it really made a difference to the feel of the episode, especially when there's no split screens :)P always hated the 'simultaneous' feel).

Alright, I don't know how many of you remember the very first episode of CSI: Miami where they showed the whole club sequence (Lord knows, how long I kept away from honey!). 'Sudden Death' undoubtingly wins hands-down with the whole techno-elite club idea! It's ironic how many people get murdered in clubs & casinos & privately owned yatchs ;)

About Eric & Calleigh, I agree that tptb should be a bit more clear about what turn they're planning to take.

Also about H, *sigh* ONLY if tptb promises NOT TO CAUSE ANY BODILY GREVIOUS HARM!!! Plus, no more victim-saviour relationship but if it must happen then it should be in reverse-role.

Infact, a great alternative to shipping is... flashbacking, which I strongly suggest, only because the truth to H's persona is his past which actually needs to be rolled-out flat & reflected upon by both H & his CLOSEST loved one or even his GREATEST enemy. Here by 'closest' & 'enemy' anyone who's the 3rd party.

It was a decent episode, nothing special but still worth watching.

I liked the chase scene, especially when Ryan tried to jump the bridge to go after the suspect (it was fun!)), and I really liked the teamwork

I don't mind new ME, but I prefer Tom.

GOOD, episode all the way around, poor girl being "a bottle girl" wow the $$$ spent on booze at that club, unbeliveable.:wtf: So that scum bag forced the champagne down her throat, and killed her. Horatio was great counseling Sarah and helped her get out of this business. How the whole team with few clues found out it was him.:(

The E/C scene makes me wonder if the episodes was aired out of order or something.

I think you're right, that's the onliest explanation :wtf:

I think this is consistant for Miami in previous seasons too, a lot of the time I feel like they just play the episodes at random...

I am not a C/E fanatic, but I'm not a hater...I think that anyone who watches a show though, deserves a reasonable conclusion or closure...or whatever..to any storyline...even storylines that most fans can agree to hate, I think deserve closure. When s/ls just abruptly end, it never feels natural and always feel forced. So as for C/E I think we can all agree that it was crappy of them to do that... It totally ruins the show when they dismiss the importance of their main character's stories... We don't just tune in for the weekly crime story, there are many other tv shows on the air that we could be watching if that were the case.

..I honestly thought the episode wasn't really 'quality' sorta just 'fluff' until another character driven episode... Idk why each episode cannot have at least a balance of character development and 'normal' weekly storyline. -- I am kinda tired of the formula they seem to use... give an amazing character-development-driven episode one week, then the next few weeks play episodes that could have been taped years in advanced OR years after and it wouldn't make much difference... then if we're lucky they'll re-address or at the least mention the character-driven plot from many many many weeks before...or years before...but it's not like whatever was going on will have a lasting impact on the character anyway...like Calleigh being kidnapped a few years back...or almost dying a few times...has not caused her any mental trauma, or personality quirks??...nope the next week she just goes back to being the same 'calleigh'.... *I'm just using Calleigh as an example as/ this is the case with almost all the CSI's..it's the writing NOT the acting)

-- Scenes like we got last week at the end (the basketball) would be a lot nicer if it were more regular and not just slapped on the end of an episode.

OH and where was Lohman? I didn't care for new ME, Dr. Mercier, I didn't feel much chemistry with the rest of the cast, and she just seemed like a random introduction.

I liked the episode mostly for the team dynamics. There hadn't been a real team feel for a while and the improvement seen in that area made the episode a lot more enjoyable for me. I hope it's something that will continue the entire season.
The screentime/airtime was better too. Happy to be seeing more of characters that had been under used, hope that continues too.

I don't know why,but for some reason I didn't seem to mind this scene. There are guys, that for some reason, from the time they are kids think they can fly, jumb, etc.Flack is like that on NY too,but he's had a lot more practice at it.

Yes it seems the kids on Miami and NY love the chases and jumping around all over the place. It's like they're all suffering from sugar-highs or ADD!

You never get that with the Vegas kids, they seem so much more grounded towards....well..the ground....:p

I'm still totally in awe of Flack in last week's NY episode where he just jumped up and pulled a suspect off one of the railing walk-ways! I was like  DAMN! Wish I could do that! Flack is very experienced indeed!;)

I never liked this Horatio's patronising attitude towards women . I'm annoyed that it's always him who can comfort young, very beautiful women or vulnerable children...It's just very lame and unintentionally funny after few seasons:guffaw:

Horatio's attitude was never patronizing to me, in fact, that was always what I love about Horatio, to me, that was his most redeeming quality, it was his ability to understand the victims, their families, and small children. I don't find it lame or unintentionally funny, I find it that's what makes Horatio who he is. He connects to these people who need a strong figure to guide them and look out for them, and he was never impatient or harsh with them, he understands them and it fits from Horatio's own past and background.

Horatio with children are scenes that I find precious, ever since from the first season, he has always had this innate ability to understand them and know their needs, I find that's something that's special about Horatio.

Every detective has their own niche, something that they understand and connect to, for Horatio, it's the victims, the helpless, and the children.

When it comes to CSI shows, I thought Mac Taylor gets overly aggressive, but Horatio takes the cake. He needs to chill out a bit. He is grumpy all the time it seems. But don't get me wrong, I am not bashing the show but his character frustrates me.

With Horatio, it's not being grumpy, he's just very stoic. His expressions don't show outward in his appearance, he looks and stares, but he has this ability to appear even more scary the more calmer he looks. There's this look he gets in his eyes when a bad guy is in deep trouble! Mac is more physically aggressive and a lot of the times his intensity is centered on getting the job done. With Horatio, his anger and rage is always hidden beneath a calm exterior, so a lot of the times he would just stare or look intensely, and his intensity is always centered on justice for the victims and their families.

It has been said that this season Horatio is more rough than he has been before, Jesse's death brought that out somewhat when the team was going after Jesse's killer, but some things are gonna happen later on in the season that's gonna put Horatio's normally calm exterior to the test.

---------------------------

I'm still mad about Jesse, and I don't think I will ever stop being mad, and it'll probably effect my enjoyment of the episodes.

Anyways, this was an interesting case and a well-done episode, but for me personally, I'm missing the spark. Yes it was nice team dynamic and everyone seems to get along and there was nice banter, but what had once given me the drive to be excited and watch every episode to see what happened is gone. Maybe one day I'll get it back, but I doubt it.

I hope they keep the team dynamic going, it would be nice for once if they kept their word. But let's just say my faith in this show is long gone.

And really, first it was Jesse was not able to be revived because "he hit his head" and now we have Calleigh and Eric broke up off-screen. Well gee, I wish it was that easily done in real life...

Overall, good decent episode despite the somewhat questionable writing in certain parts.

I love all types of chases: Cars, boats, foot chases....as long as they are filmed well. This was a very poorly filmed chase if you ask me

Dialogue from Tomorrow Never Dies which explains my opinions on this matter

"What the hell is he doing?!!!"
"His JOB!"

This'll do just fine as well

I think Mac's military background fuels his attitude towards criminals whereas Horatio's past and search for justice fuels his.

I was just cooling over the hatchet job to Rick and they went and did this.

The chase may have been a little long, but enjoyable ,if you ask me. Don't know about poorly filmed,it was just done in the routine Miami style.

This episode did nothing for me. It was basically another episode where the helpless poor person(s) of the week is treated like dirt by the big bad rich person(s) of the week and are either killed or saved in the end by Horatio while the evil rich person goes to jail for killing someone who dared to stand up to him or her.
Not all people that have money are evil spoiled brats, nor are all people who are poor or middle class saints of virtue.
But you wouldn't know that by watching CSI Miami of late or that the poor or middle class exist at all in Miami other than to be slaves to the rich folk.
