Here's the next part, this time it takes place after the episode fades to black. Consider it an extra scene, where we see the team mourn after the funeral. This song is very dear to me, it always makes me cry, and it is especially fitting for this extra scene. Josh Groban has such a wonderful voice, that conveys the meaning of the lyrics so much. I found so much inspiration from 'Lost Son', and I owe it to the incredible emotions that came across in that fateful episode to write this. Thank you to Ann Donahue and Elizabeth Devine for writing an amazing script that I am merely adding to.
(Continues from the end of 'Lost Son'.)
(The guns fire one more time.
Camera focuses in on Horatio, Calleigh and Eric.
Horatio looks down, Calleigh shuts her eyes, and Eric
stares ahead.)
Short-time jump to:
[CEMETERY - EVENING]
(Horatio, Eric and Calleigh move around and talk to people.
Eric shakes hands with Speed's mother and father.
He walks away, rubbing his eyes.
Horatio shakes Speed's father's hand, and hugs Speed's mother,
who cries silently.)
HORATIO: I am so sorry for your loss, ma'am, sir...
PAM SPEEDLE: Thank you, Lieutenant. Tim always spoke highly
of you, and your team...
HORATIO: (nodding) He was a fine CSI, and a good friend. He will
be missed.
Cut to:
(Wide shot of Speed's father putting his arm around Pam as she cries again.)
Cut to:
(Shot as Horatio moves away, waking to the edge of the cemetery.)
Cut to:
(Front shot of Calleigh as she sits with Speed's parents, consoling Pam.)
Cut to:
(Horatio catching up with Eric, who is walking away from the funeral.)
HORATIO: Eric!
(Eric stops, still rubbing his eyes, his back to Horatio.)
ERIC: H... I had to get out of there... it was too much...
(Horatio regards him silently.)
ERIC: You know, it's only hit me... just know...
(He faces Horatio.)
ERIC: He's gone... Tim's gone. I'll... I'll never see him again, not in this life...
(He covers his eyes.)
ERIC: Jesus... I can't handle this...
HORATIO: We're all still in shock, Eric. Take time to grieve.
ERIC: I'm not gonna wallow in misery...
HORATIO: Who says you are?
ERIC: I do! I'm supposed to be the macho man, I'm... I'm supposed to be
strong...
HORATIO: You are strong. You have more strength and will inside you than
you'll ever know. I've felt it in you... don't give up.
ERIC: I won't... I promise. But, H... all three of us... Speed, Calleigh and me,
the three musketeers... we were closer than family... he was my friend, my
brother... and Cal's been more than a friend to me... I l.ove 'em both... but I...
I don't think I can help her...
(He sheds a few tears, clenching his fist.)
ERIC: H... promise me that you'll look after her... she needs you more than I do...
HORATIO: Eric, are you sure that...
ERIC: I'm sure, H. One hundred percent. Go to her, I'll be fine. It'll take time, but I'll
be okay.
Cut to:
(Side shot of Eric and Horatio.
Horatio lays his hand on Eric's shoulder.)
HORATIO: I know you will... hang in there.
ERIC: I will... my sisters give their condolences.
(Horatio nods.)
HORATIO: Thank you... take care now.
(Eric nods, before turning and leaving.
Camera focuses on his retreating figure.)
Cut to:
(Close-up of Eric's face, as he inhales deeply, exhaling slowly, his face set.
A tear rolls off his chin and is lost in the breeze.)
Cut to:
(Front shot of Horatio watching Eric leave.
After a moment, he turns back towards the gravesite.
Cue music of 'You Raise Me Up' as he walks back to the crowd.)
When I am down and oh my soul so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
(Horatio sees Calleigh walking through the people, her eyes downcast.)
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit a while with me
(Horatio stares at her, his eyes fixed only on Calleigh, all the other people fade into
the background.
Calleigh continues to walk towards Speed's grave.)
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
(Horatio stands still, letting out a heavy sigh, ducking his head, before raising it again.
He moves towards Calleigh.)
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
(During the instrumental, white flash to the hug Horatio and Calleigh shared not hours before.
Calleigh moves through the people, focusing on Tim's grave.
She is unaware of Horatio watching her.)
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
(Calleigh blinks rapidly, as she remembers Horatio holding her.)
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
(She reaches the grave, standing there.
Horatio puts his hand on her shoulder.
Calleigh starts, and turns her head to look at him.
He gives her a small smile as she nods.)
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
(They both regard the tombstone.)
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
(Calleigh leans her head against Horatio's shoulder.
Horatio brings his arm around her shoulders, holding her to him.)
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
(Calleigh puts her arm around Horatio, her hand resting in the centre of his back.
They stand together, the wind blowing around them.)
You raise me up to more than I can be
(The wind blows Calleigh's hair and her tears across her face.
She wipes her face, trembling now.
Horatio kisses the top of her head, as Calleigh starts sobbing.)
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
(Horatio turns his face into the top of her head, as Calleigh flings her arms around him,
hugging him tight.)
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
(They hold each other, the wind whipping Calleigh's hair and stirring Horatio's jacket.)
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
(Horatio looks at Speed's grave, still holding Calleigh.
She turns her head to look too.)
You raise me up to more than I can be
(Horatio and Calleigh continue to stand at Tim's grave.)
You raise me up to more than I can be.
HORATIO: Rest in peace, my friend. You may be gone, but I swear...
(He hugs Calleigh tighter.
Calleigh's fingers grip his jacket.)
HORATIO:... You will never be forgotten
(Calleigh nods, closing her eyes.)
CALLEIGH: I don't think I can do this...
(Horatio blinks in confusion, pulling back gently to look at her.)
HORATIO: What do you mean?
CALLEIGH: Get through this grief... I can't... not by myself...
(She grips Horatio's arms.)
CALLEIGH: Please... help me... stay with me...
HORATIO: Calleigh, I'm here as long as you need me...
CALLEIGH: No... stay... stay with me... I... I can't lose you.
HORATIO: Sweetheart, you will never lose me...
CALLEIGH: How do you know? For all I know, I could be loookingat two tombstones
and not just one...
(Silence for a long beat.)
HORATIO: Don't say those things...
CALLEIGH: I have lost a friend... someone I care about... I'm not going to lose anyone
else...
HORATIO: Calleigh... it's normal to feel grief...
CALLEIGH: I loved Tim, he was my friens... and I've learned that life is too short... in a
second it's gone...
(She steps close to Horatio, her voice quiet, her eyes brimming with tears.)
CALLEIGH: And that's why I have to tell you...
(Pause.)
CALLEIGH: Horatio... I love you...
(Horatio is stunned.
Calleigh looks at Tim's grave.)
CALLEIGH: Please... I need you...
(She leans her head on his chest.)
CALLEIGH: Don't leave me...
(Horatio closes his eyes, stroking her hair.)
HORATIO: I won't...
(Calleigh heaves a sigh.)
HORATIO: Come on... I'll take you home...
(Calleigh gives him a fearful look.)
HORATIO: ... And I'll stay if you want me to.
CALLEIGH: I do.
(They are silent.
Horatio turns to leave, but Calleigh remains at the grave another moment.
She kneels down beside the tombstone.)
CALLEIGH: Bye, Tim. Look at me all teary.
(She gives a tearful laugh.)
I'll come visit you, I promise. I won't let you be lonely.
(Calleigh kisses her fingers and lays them against Tim's name on the tombstone.)
CALLEIGH: I love you.
(She blinks slowly before getting up,
She gives Horatio a look, asking "Do you want to?"
Horatio is hesitant, but he walks over beside Calleigh, and gets down on one knee at the grave.)
HORATIO: Tim... what can I say? I tried to save you, buddy, but I wasn't fast enough...
(He puts his head in his hand.)
You saved me... I will always be grateful to you... I miss you, Speed. I... I know you can hear
me... so I'll make this short... I will always remember you... and I will always love you.
(Horatio stands slowly.
Calleigh holds his arm.)
HORATIO: Goodbye, Tim.
(Calleigh and Horatio walk awy, the wind their only companion.
Calleigh walks close beside Horatio, but slowly and surely, Horatio reaches out for her hand,
pulling her in closer to him
Calleigh looks up at Horatio, and Horatio stares back at her.
He squeezes her hand.)
HORATIO: I love you, Calleigh.
(Calleigh smiles widely, tears falling down her face.
She hugs him firecely, and he hugs her back, lifting her off the ground.
They pull back to look at each other.
Almost at the same time, they look back towards Speed's grave.
Horatio kisses the top of Calleigh's head, moving down to her ear.)
HORATIO: Whatever, happens... we'll face it together.
CALLEIGH: Yes... together.
(They cast one final look at the grave, before turning and walking away.
Camera moves behind them as they walk out of the graveyard and get into the Hummer.
Horatio pauses, reaching across to take Calleigh's hand.
They share a long look, as Horatio kisses the back of her hand softly.
Calleigh smiles, squeezing his hand.)
Cut to:
(Shot of the Hummer as it pulls away, driving out of the graveyard, and into
the sunset.)
Fade in:
(Shot of Speed's grave, focusing in on the letters:
TIM SPEEDLE
IN OUR HEARTS, YOU LIVE FOREVER)
(FADE TO BLACK.)
Comment away. Thank you.
