CSI: DuCaine

Here we are with another scene. Hope you like this one as much as I do. I was listening Lifehouse's "Hanging By a Moment" as I was typing, so I decided to add it in at the end. It probably messed the ending up, but everything before it is pretty okay. Just experimenting and trying out new techniques. Hope you all like it! :) Here we go!:

COLD OPEN
(Crane shot of Miami.)

Fade in to:
[INT - CRIMELAB - DAY]

Fade in to:
(Shot of Calleigh disassembling
a .45 caliber gun. She looks at the
chamber, and extracts the last round.

Camera pans slowly backwards
from her.)

Cut to:
(Horatio as he comes in the door.)

Cut to:
(Shot of him watching her.)

Cut to:
(Shot of him holding a silver
bracelet.
He clears his throat.)

Cut to:
(Calleigh as she turns around,
and immediately lights up.)

CALLEIGH: Horatio, hi!
HORATIO: Hey, Cal. How's it going?

CALLEIGH: Good, good. Just finished
disassembling the .45 we found in
Tony Moreno's car, and I'm about to
compare the bullets to our vic.
HORATIO: Great... um...
(He clears his throat again.)
I... found this this morning...

Cut to:
(Shot of him holding up the bracelet.)

Cut to:
(Calleigh smiling, her eyes wider now.)

CALLEIGH: Yeah, that's mine. Thank you.
I thought I lost it.
(She takes it from him.)
Must've fallen off when we...

Cut to:
(Shot of her ducking her head, blushing.)

Cut to:
(Shot of Horatio. He smiles, shifting left
to right.)
HORATIO: Yeah...

(Long pause.
They look up at each other.)

CALLEIGH: Last night... was really wonderful.
HORATIO: It was. Dinner was great, thank you.
CALLEIGH: You're welcome, anytime.

(Pause.
Wide shot of them both.)

HORATIO: Calleigh... when two people work
together, there are certain boundaries...

(Calleigh bites her lip.)
CALLEIGH: Mmhmm...

HORATIO: Boundaries that should never,
under any circumstances, be crossed.

Cut to:
(Calleigh gripping her hands. She turns away
from him, putting her hands on the table.)

CALLEIGH: Horatio... don't sugarcoat anything
with me...

Cut to:
(Horatio as he moves in behind her.)

HORATIO: (pauses) Last night... we crossed
that boundary...

Cut to:
(Calleigh shutting her eyes.)

HORATIO: We've passed the point of no return...
Calleigh...

(She raises her head.)

CALLEIGH: Yes?
(Her voice is small.)

HORATIO: Is this... am I... what you want?
There's no going back, and I...

(Calleigh turns around, silencing him with her
index finger.)

CALLEIGH: Horatio... we were bound to cross that
boundary someday... and I'm glad we did.

Cut to:
(Horatio's eyes widening slightly.)

CALLEIGH: Too long, we've continued to wait...
I've made my choice.

(She holds onto the lapels of Horatio's jacket.
He takes a deep breath.)

CALLEIGH: It's you I want... and there are so many
things I want to tell you... so many things I want to
do to you to convince you... to show you how I feel.
If last night didn't convince you...

Cut to:
(Shot of Horatio, as he swallows, takes her hands
gently.)

HORATIO: I don't want to hold you back, Calleigh.
That would be the end of me.
CALLEIGH: You could never do that, Horatio. You
make me move forward. I'm a better person because
of you. If you think last night was a one-off...

(She steps in closer.)
CALLEIGH:... Think again.
HORATIO: Cal...

(They hug quickly.
Horatio buries his face in her shoulder, hidden
by her hair. He gently moves her hair from her neck.
Calleigh squeezes his shoulders, but then her eyes open
wide, and she lets out an involuntary moan.)

CALLEIGH: Horatio... not here... my house, tonight.
HORATIO:(raising his head) Okay, Cal. Tonight...

(Horatio pulls back.)

HORATIO: Let's nail this guy, okay?
(Calleigh nods.)

Cut to:
(Horatio, as he pauses a second, staring at her
intently.
He gently puts his hands on her shoulders,
leans in slowly, and kisses her cheek.)

Cut to:
(Calleigh's eyes widening, then they slip closed
as she smiles.)

Cut back to:
Horatio pulling back, now inches from her face.)

HORATIO: Until tonight, sweetheart...

Cut to:
(Calleigh staring at him, her mouth
slightly open, her eyes flitting back
and forth over his face.)

Cut to:
(Shot of Horatio smiling, before he
gives her one last hug, and leaves.)

Cut to:
(Shot of Calleigh standing still.
She puts her hand to her cheek,
and lets out a long contented sigh.
She turns back to her work with
a flourish, and a massive smile.)

Cue music:
Desperate for changing,
Starving for truth,
I'm closer to where I started,
I'm chasing after you

Cut to:
(Horatio walking through the corridors.
He smiles, ducking his head.
He continues to walk, a spring in his step
during these lines...)

I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held onto
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you

Fade in to:
(Calleigh comparing the two bullets.
She starts writing her report,
her hand lightly touching her cheek
where Horatio kissed her.)

Cut to:
(Horatio standing outside, watching
criminals getting taken away,
and the people walking about.
He looks to the sky, and back to
the ground again.
He slowly puts on his sunglasses,
letting out a happy sigh.)

Forgetting all I'm lacking,
Completely incomplete,
I'll take your invitation,
You take all of me

Cut to:
(Calleigh walking through the lab,
on her way to interrogation.
She touches her hair from time to
time, her face set.)

I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held onto
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you.

Cut to:
(Horatio talking to Frank, looking in
at the suspect.)

I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure
Where to go
And I don't know what
I'm diving into
Just hanging by a moment
Here with you

Cut to:
(Calleigh interviewing Tony Moreno.)

There's nothing else to lose
There's nothing left to find
There's nothing in the world
That can change my mind

Cut to:
(Horatio interviewing a suspect.)

There is nothing else
There is nothing else
There is nothing else

Fade into:
(Shot of the city, the lights coming on.)

Cut to:
(Horatio in his office, sitting at his desk.)

Desperate for changing,
Starving for truth

Cut to:
(Calleigh in the ballistics lab,
drinking coffee.)

I'm closer to where I started,
I'm chasing after you.

Cut to:
(Split screen of them both walking,
in slow-motion as the music kicks
in again.
They keep walking during this chorus.)

I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held onto
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you.

I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure
Where to go
And I don't know what
I'm diving into
Just hanging by a monent here with you

White flash to:
(Horatio kissing Calleigh.)

Hanging by a moment
Hanging by a moment
Hanging by a moment

Fade in to:
(Shot of them both smiling as the
music ends.)

Just hanging by a moment
Here with you

(FADE TO BLACK.)

More to come!!
:)

Hey starbuckhan!! I have seen your video to "Hanging By a Moment". Really good, inspired me to write the ending for the scene. I really like your videos a lot!! :)

Thank you again for the lovely comments, Grissoms Angel and Mel. Another update is coming up!!
:)

Apologies for the long wait. My computor was backed up all this week, and I couldn't type anything!! So here we are. Be warned, it's a bit angsty, but it's nice in the end. Basically, my frustration at H and Cal's distance following S3's hug, and the ensuing downward spiral that was S4. Inspired by a fanfic called "Tears", one of many on Fanfiction.net. It was by Black-Coronet, one of Palm's pen-names, I think. Just to give her credit. Hope you like!!

[INT - CRIMELAB - DAY]

(Slow moving shot of Calleigh
walking to Horatio's office,
holding a report.

She raps on the door.)

HORATIO: Come in...

(Calleigh opens the door.)

(Shot of Horatio sitting at his desk,
reading some files and signing
several pages.
Calleigh remains silent.
She walks over to his desk,
and places her report on top of
the pile in the "IN" tray.)

CALLEIGH: Here's my report on
the ballistics of Tom Kelly's murder
weapon...
HORATIO: Thank you, Calleigh.

Cut to:
(Shot of her as she nods.
She turns and walks to the door.)

HORATIO:(o.s) Calleigh?

Cut to:
(Shot of her hand raising to the door
handle. She stops.

There's a long pause.

She turns back, looking at him
questioningly.)

Cut back to:
(Shot of Horatio sitting forward.)

HORATIO: Are you okay? You're
very quiet.

Cut back to:
(Calleigh looking down, smiling slightly.)

CALLEIGH: I'm okay, Horatio. Just a bit
tired... lot of overtime on this case... I just
need a good night's sleep...

HORATIO: (smiling) You work too hard...

CALLEIGH: (raising an eyebrow) I love my
job, it's not a crime to give time to things you
love...

(She stops in mid-sentance.)

Cut back to:
(Horatio looking confused.)

HORATIO: Calleigh?

CALLEIGH: (begins to get flustered) Um, I...
forget I said anything...
(She turns away.)

Cut back to:
(Horatio getting up.)
HORATIO: Calleigh.

(She stops, her hands clutched at her chest.)

Cut to:
(Close-up of her mouth as she purses her lips,
amd traps her bottom lip between her teeth.)

Cut to:
(Horatio coming to stand in front of his desk.)

HORATIO: Why are you running away?

(Silence.)

Cut to:
(Wide shot of them.)

(Horatio looks down, and gives a sigh.)

HORATIO: I think we need to talk...

(Calleigh gives a huff of laughter.)

CALLEIGH: Talk... 'talk', he says...

(She faces him.)

CALLEIGH: You know, there was a time
when that word didn't make me nervous...
talk...

(She smiles self-consciously.
Horatio is stumped.)

HORATIO: What do you mean?

(Calleigh gives him a long look.
She takes a step forward.)

CALLEIGH: There was a time, long ago,
when I could talk to you about anything...
a time when we spoke full sentances to each other...
(her voice raising) when we had a decent
conversation!

Cut to:
(Horatio blinking in utter confusion.)

HORATIO: We do have conversations...

CALLEIGH: Conversations about cases...
when was the last time we discussed our...
(She stops.)
No one else understood me and my father...
except you... I could turn to you for anything.

HORATIO: And you still can...

CALLEIGH: No! I can't... we've grown
apart, Horatio. We've become distant. I can't
even remember the last case we worked
together... the last time we touched... I'm never
with you... like I was before...

HORATIO: Things have changed. There's Ryan
to consider... and the Mala Noches have been...

CALLEIGH: Horatio... you can't make excuses.
You could've found a way for us to work together.
Either that or you're avoiding me...

Cut to:
(Horatio swaying, his eyes wide.)

HORATIO: Calleigh! Why?... why would I avoid
you? I... I see you everyday...

CALLEIGH: But it's for the shortest time possible...
you spend barely five minutes with me... and you're
gone... gone...
(She starts to pace.)
I replay replay and think over every conversation
in my head trying to figure out why you're so distant...
(She faces him again.)
What did I do that made you push me away?

(Her eyes are welling up with tears now.

Horatio is staring in disbelief.)

HORATIO: Push you away? You're not making
sense, Cal...
CALLEIGH: I think it makes perfect sense,
Lieutenant.

Cut to:
(Horatio flinching a little.)

CALLEIGH: (getting louder) You have no idea,
not a notion of what this distance has done to me.
I looked up to you, I learnt from you. You were
a part of my life, but then it was gone. You became
so formal, so professional, you were... so cold.
(Horatio flinches again.)
Ever since Tim's funeral... that day, you held me
as I cried. I had hope... we were so close. But then
you took my heart and ripped it apart.

(She walks up to him, her voice loud.)
You don't think his death affected me? You don't
think John's death affected me? You left me alone,
Horatio. You left me... you hurt me, you forgot me.
I fell apart, and you weren't there. Where were you?
Saying goodbye to your family? What about me,
Horatio?! What about me?!!

(She's crying now.
Horatio can barely look at her.
Calleigh gives a choked sob, turning from him.)

CALLEIGH: Just tell me, Horatio. Tell me why we've
grown apart... why did you leave me?
(She faces him, her hands clasped to her heart.)
(whispering) I... I need to know, so I can move on.

(Silence.)

Cut to:
(Shot of Horatio as he turns and leans over his desk,
his hands bracing on the surface.)

HORATIO: If I have done anything... to make you
think that our relationship was nothing to me...
I am sorry, Calleigh. For a long time, even before
Tim's death, I... I felt I was smothering you...
keeping you from becoming everything you could
be, I... I foolishly assumed that you needed space
after Tim and John... so I gave it to you... you
pulled through.
(He turns his head to look at her.)
You were always strong, from the first day I met
you. Calleigh. I pushed you away... I did that
because...

(Long beat.)

CALLEIGH: Why?
HORATIO: I... I was so stupid!

(He punches the desk.
Calleigh starts from fright.)

HORATIO: I was a burden, Calleigh. You didn't
need supervising anymore.
(He looks up.)
You were becoming a top CSI, you didn't need
me looking over your shoulder anymore... didn't
need me to hold your hand anymore...

CALLEIGH: But I did need you! In more ways
than one! You weren't there! You broke my heart!!
And you're doing it again now!!

HORATIO: I just don't understand, Calleigh! Why
do you need me so much?! Why am I so important?!!

CALLEIGH: Because I love you!!!!!

(Silence.)

HORATIO: Cal...
CALLEIGH: Horatio...
(She sniffs.
Horatio looks down.)

HORATIO: You... you love me?
(Beat.)
CALLEIGH: Yes... yes I do. Very much.

(She puts her hand on his arm.)
I can't deny what I feel any longer...

HORATIO: I, uh... it's just... Calleigh, I'm stunned...

(Calleigh looks down.)

CALLEIGH: I had to tell you... I've felt this for so long...
(She starts talking very quickly now) And if the feeling
isn't mutual it's okay because you're my boss and I'm your
employee so it would never work really, and I know I'm
foolish for having these fellings but I can't help what I feel
and these feelings for you are so strong and I...

(She is stopped in mid-flow, as Horatio kisses her.)

Cut to:
(Wide shot of them both.
Calleigh's eyes blink slowly, and Horatio holds her gently,
if she wants to pull away,
Calleigh's eyes slip closed, and she kisses him back.

Camera pans in slowly as they kiss.

They break the kiss slowly, as Horatio leans in and
kisses her forehead.)

HORATIO: You're so sweet when you babble...

(Calleigh giggles girlishly.)

CALLEIGH: Horatio!
HORATIO: Hmmm?
(He takes her chin in his hand.)

HORATIO: Calleigh, I know I've caused you so
much pain. It hurts me to know that I broke your
heart. Know this, Calleigh... I know you can't
forgive, but I want you to know that I love you.
(Calleigh gasps.)
I love you, you are the light of my life, and I want you,
I need you by my side again.
I understand if you say no, Calleigh, completely.
What I did was unforgivable... I... I am so sorry.

(Calleigh smiles tearfully, cupping his cheek in her palm.)

CALLEIGH: Oh, Handsome...
(Horatio smiles at his old nickname.)
Of course I forgive you... I love you so much... and I would
be so happy to be by your side again... yes, yes...

(She hugs him tightly.
He buries his face in her hair.)

HORATIO: I love you...

Cut to:
(Calleigh as she sighs happily, her eyes closed.)

CALLEIGH: Hmm, I love you...

(Camera pans backwards from Horatio and Calleigh
still holding each other.)

(FADE TO BLACK.)
