Character Development/Screentime Discussion

Desertwind, aren't you that woman from the IMDB forums that has like 6 accounts and just talks to herself about how great Ray Langston is?

Anyway, Nobody's saying anything bad about Fishburne, people are allowed to criticize characters if we want, Langston has never had a big fan-base, and thats not Fishburne's fault, he was pushed on us too quickly and written as a boss, even though he's a rookie. He's a bad character, IMO.

Exactly, tptb are what screwed up Langston. They started him off good in 'The Grave Shift" as a beginner, but they started really 'shoving' him down our throats and dumbing down our favorite characters that it go to be a bit much.

It's a little better this season, but every since Petersen left it's not so much an ensemble anymore. He was the one to push for that.

Though I can't complain because I get to see lots of Nick :D, but the ensemble went away with Petersen.

WHAT? where is this coming from? nope, not me, I'm not on that board, is is a CSI board? and why does another fan have to explain or defend one's self about a character they like? Some like Cath some don't, some like Sara, some don't, some like Nick some don't etc. This is a character development topic and all I was doing is saying how well this character Ray [not LF], although I do talk about him excessively on his thread]. has blended with the team and that's not my opinion but what TPTB have showed the fan base. To each one's own and different strokes, yada, yada, yada. And all the CSI fans from around the world are not on this site, Anthony Zuiker stated aways back that over 78.6 million or something to that effect watch the show worldwide, and in that big picture he is popular. Everyone I talk to, and it's quite a large batch of people, love this character, only one guy said he liked Grissom better, Whoever is your favorite is great, and I would never put them down why insult or be mean-spirited, to any fan or for that matter anybody period? How about common decency, and civility?

Hey guys...please keep the discussion civil and leave out any personal confrontations or accusations.

I have one question. You have used these numbers before to backup your claim that Langston is well-loved and is the glue of the show. How do you know this? Even if Zuiker or Mendelsohn stated this, how do they know? They haven't the ability or resources to ask every single fan world wide why they like this show. Statistics such as these can be skewed to fit the agenda of whoever needs the numbers. I never trust statistics and I always caution for others not to use them.

Everyone I talk to, and it's quite a large batch of people, love this character, only one guy said he liked Grissom better

This is also a statistic. You're polling a minority number and using it to represent a majority. However large you friend group is, it cannot represent a number like 78.6 million. Any one of us could do the same and come up with different results. Our friends are normally going to be like-minded people and the results would probably mirror our own prejudices. For example: my friends who watch the show have no real love for Langston. None despise him, but none are declaring their undying love for him either. Like me.

Again, I'm just cautioning against this tactic. Abandoning it and using other methods would probably make your case stronger.

I'm going by LF fan-sites, Praetor and his Facebook site [over 7,000 fans] & am not saying that that figure is correct. If you are wondering, about this maybe write to the head writers or Zuiker himself for that accuracy of this. And I never said "the glue" those are your words. And I have two neighbors, who never heard of Billy Petersen I showed them his photo, and they just shook their heads, and said "sorry never saw him", never heard or him, and also have never heard of his movies. I couldn't believe it. And their huge movie buffs. go figure. But they are now watching CSI, because they like Fishburne, that's one statistic. A lady who runs a beauty supply shop [a customer] brought him up herself, we chatted about this site and she says she's going to join, then asked if I could bring her a picture of him so she could hang it up in her shop. This site is a small fanbase [it's a great site, the best variety] but it's not the whole CSI fan base. I also am going by this is his 3rd season, and they get rid of people, cast members who don't cut it, without naming names, lots come to mind. If he weren't a big hit, why is he doing a 3rd season? TPTB after 1 or 2 seasons could have said, "thank's, but we don't need your services anymore, so buh-bye". So why is he still on?

Can't take much stock in someone who refuses to see a character's flaw. They all have them, no one is perfect, and no one character is loved by everyone.

Once Langston bails on the show, it'll be all bad mouthing him and loving whoever replaces him.

I'm not going to take much stock in CM either or Zuiker for that matter. I mean George has said he thinks he's great too and Fishburne probably is, but the show is still on and no one is going to create waves.

When the show finally goes off the air and the E! True Hollywood Story comes out  we'll start learning all the real stuff.

I'm saying this hypothetical as I can't say this is what George thinks. Take a look at him and Nick. Petersen/Grissom left, Warrick/Dourdan was killed off.

That would have left George to be the next male lead. However, that didn't happen. I'm sure that pissed him off no matter how much he likes Fishburne. He said himself that he would have had a problem if tptb had Langston come in and be the boss.

So, no, I don't thing everything is so 'hunky dory' on the set as everyone makes it out to be. That would be simply impossible.

I'm going by LF fan-sites,

Well, that is hardly objective.

Oooh I can't wait for that to come out!!!!:devil::devil:

Me thinks GE will have plenty to say..

Please note that I did not use quotations when I mentioned glue, thus I was not quoting you. It was indeed my own words. I could view this as you being snippy but I won't. But next time make sure before you accuse someone of misquoting you. Some might not take it lightly.

Here you're misunderstanding me. Not once did I say that Langston is unloved by everyone, thus warranting his immediate removal from the show. My point was that the number you cited does not mean everyone loves him, as your previous posts imply. As you yourself have stated before, the fanbase of this show is large and is a mixed bag. I do believe that a good portion of that bases like Ray. The other portions either don't or just don't care.

Again, my goal is to get you to stop using statistical numbers. No one knows what they mean and will therefore make them mean what they want. Oh, and 7,000 Facebook fans is barely a fraction of 78.6 million.

Such doubt, I also just saw him on "The Talk" [the women on ther drove me nuts] except Julie Chen & Holly Pete, and he was a guest, and the audience cheered him when he walked out, so is everybody phony? He talked about how fans loved Billy, but "that everything was harmonious on CSI". So he's phony too. And while he was at "The House of Blues" before he started filming a lady rushed up to him and asks "will you please save the lab" everyone laughed:lol: I have seen almost all the cast on talk shows and they all seemed to be authentic, and genuine on their praise of him. So are they all phony too? here's an interview with George, "he was one of my acting heroes" and you can read what he says~

I'm sure they do like him, but remember this is Hollywood and not everything seems like it is.

Just because they 'say something' doesn't mean the believe it. They are under contract and are NOT going to say something that could cause them problems with being on the show.

That's why I said wait until after the show is over and they all start talking. ;)

ETA: So everyone cheered when Fishburne walked out, what were they going to do? Boo him. That is irrelevant.

Kim Kardashian also gets applause during talk shows, yet I'm pretty sure most everyone hates her. Clapping during talk shows happens no matter who the guest is. I was at the Craig Ferguson show last October (the show Marg was on) and no matter who the guest was, they all got a decent applause. If we're really going to judge a celebrity's star power by applause then by God humanity is fucked.

Also, you're still not understanding what we're saying: we have no problem with Laurence, it's the CHARACTER. Using his public appearances as a statistic for the character he plays is just not accurate.
