Character development or lack there of?

^^ They don't have birthdays on Miami. They don't have pets either, or hobbies.I guess it's just work for them except for a rare get together after work.

I have to say I've been reading the producers blogs & I think this show just tends to concentrate on how everything looks & is done, rather than concentrating on our characters or continuity. It's a shame, it doesn't have to be that way. I'm quite sure there's just as much hard work involved in NY, & Criminal Minds (research I imagine would be tough for that one), but they still manage to play out thier characters well.
Miami has never been too character-driven, but I personally thought they did a much better job in the earlier seasons ...they don't have to have long drawn out arcs just to flesh out a character.

How they wrote out Dan Cooper is a great example of what NOT to do.
That was by far the DUMBEST of all exits. They used it to bring back Speedle's ghost, which made it even more insane, then to showcase Delko's head injury. I won't even dare touch where they went to next with his (Cooper) involvement with Calleigh's "abduction". For Heavens sakes, really. Just being able to mention all those ridiculous things in one paragraph makes it even more dumb.

Hi mjszud

What sort of information do you get from the blogs? Do they "hand out" infor. just for the fans following the blog or do they reponed to questions?

I forgot about Dan Cooper. :( And I even liked that character a lot:(. But - true - his exit was "badly" written and they did "get" another good one again until Omar. Not forgetting Valera who disappear for a while in true Miami - style;). At least Omar is in more then one episode at a time.

I fully understand that any infor. on a character ties that character to the fact to some extent( or at least on other shows:lol:). If they are married in one episode we would be surprised to hear they had been single for a long time the next. But Miami seems to bend that rule to the extreme. The many injuries never heard off again is a good exampel.

^^ I was referring to the producers blogs found weekly on the CBS/Miami site. It gives you a peek into what they have to work with in making an episode (from writing to filming to casting, etc.)

The blog is all about technicalities... it hasn't satisfied any inner cravings, as/other writers/producers blogs for other shows have.

Have producers at some point explained the lack of character development on this show compared to the two others? Ann D- is involved in all three as I remember.

So if you were to interprete the blogs? what makes Miami leave the characterdetails that is included in the two other shows?

mjzud: in a tread not far from here. I noticed that you "said" Ann ´s contract might be up too. What does that mean in a show like this? Can producers get fired?

I wonder how much influence producers had in creating the character -set - up when they developed this "spin - off" and how much influence they have now.
1. Megan (I think was the first to go) and they "bumped up" Calliegh to fill that space
2. Yelina was there and left
3. Alexx left
4. Tara

I am suddenly surprised at how many women they "dropped" and replaced by men. I do know some of the female actress´want to leave but still ....

Back to my point could the actor - leaving be a reason for making the characters as simple as possible? Remember - please - it is just me guessing or wondering.

I doubt it because there really is no good excuse for it.

They probably could by the network, I'm not sure. But, I don't think its about that in this case. I think its just that each person who work on a show signs a contract for a certain amount of time (usually in the beginning its one-two years). So, when their contract expires, they can choose to renew it (if the show still wants them) or move on to something new.

What was with Tara? Why'd she leave like that? Actress's contract up or something?

I think she was only signed on for a year or less. They told her from the beginning that she wasn't really what they were looking for, but they could have some fun with her being there anyway. Then at the end, I guess they realized she just didn't mesh well with the show, so they wrote her out.

Yeah it sort of showed that she wasn't blending into the cast well. I was wondering if it was that or coincidentally her contract was up. I wonder if it had to do with her press as well.

I always thought Megalyn E (could never spell or pronounce her name) was all wrong for that part. She was too young to be a good, credible M.E. With the medical school, internship, etc., an experienced M.E. would be at least 29 or 30. The actress was 26. I have a hard time believing they couldn't get someone older.

They don't have birthdays on Miami. They don't have pets either, or hobbies.

They had some things in the early years. Delko jogged around a track. Speed rode a motorcycle. In "Broken", Alexx was reading Hansel and Gretel to her kids before she said "Mommy has to tell you about bad people."

Every once in a while they've shown the characters with outside hobbies again (I'M NOT COUNTING E/C!!), but it seems more like they're just throwing us a bone. Sort of like, "Oh yeah, here you go. Chew on this."

One thing I like in Vegas is how the characters would try something that had to do with a case they'd just worked. Nick tried hanggliding after working a case that involved a hang gliding death. In "Lovers' Lanes" the characters go bowling--together. I know there were others.

I love that on Vegas too. This being Miami, there has to be a place where people rollerskate outside (they show this once in a while on Burn Notice which also takes place in Miami). It would be neat if the case were about a dead rollerskater found outside at the skate park or whatever. And at the end, the team goes rollerskating.

Horatio on rollerskates? Now THAT I would pay to see! :guffaw:

Or Frank on rollerskates. :guffaw: Frank would probably be the one falling over and the girls would have to help hold him up.
