Carmine Giovinazzo

Danny's a multi-faceted character. He can be serious one moment and childlike the next. I mean, who would refer to a panic room (after being given the info that you'll be stuck in there for a long while) as a space ship? He's the only one with the attitude who can pull that off and make it work. Danny was able to keep his cool under pressure and Carmine delivered. One of the best performances of a CSI actor since it started.

I love that about Danny! He's such a petulant child. My favorite moment in the episode was when Jerry came in with the gun, and Danny was more upset about the fact that Jerry could have let him out all along than he was about being taken hostage and threatened with a gun. That's so Danny.

^Yeah, that was his first concern -- rather than the gun aimed at him. His expression was priceless.

Danny is the youngest in the Messer clan right? lol... just asking...

I believe Louie is the older brother, yes. Danny made some reference to it in RSRD.

Danny is very much a younger child, to the extreme! He is constantly seeking attention and seems to expect the devotion some *cough*Flack*cough* lavish on him as his due. Not to mention he's constantly seeking the approval of his father figure, Mac.

Hehe... That scene really cracked me up! And to think a normal viewer would be nerve-wracked with the suspense and all... my family was glaring at me for laughing out loud...

I just gotta say, this show has been a real inspiration, if not an education, for me. It's been a while since I've seen/handled laboratory equipments (and it's just been 3 years since I graduated!) and honestly, I miss that life. Makes me real proud how science has come a long way in crime-solving... sniff, sniff... I haven't been this taken on a TV show since that thing with Buffy... :)

It made me laugh, too, and like Danny all the more. It was such an endearingly human moment--that whole end scene played out really well. I loved how Stella came in to save the day, too, and rescue Danny.

A fellow Buffy fan! :D I loved that show. It's my all-time favorite, and the characters were great. I really miss that show. NY is among my favs of the shows currently on the air, though.

I read in a spoiler *bad me* that Danny referred to his mother as "mommy". And I remember he said to Aiden when she was grilling him if he did go to the mandatory psych eval -- "You're not my mom." <== or something to that effect. I find that very cute.

I think he's out to impress Mac first and foremost because he wants to prove himself and he wants to make Mac realize that he didn't make a mistake of hand-picking him. He seeks attention from Flack (lolz...) I reckon because Louie (and if he has other siblings) have been absent for the longest time. He wants someone to talk to so he can rant out and let out something on his mind.

Danny's "mommy" in RSRD was very sweet and child-like. It suggested to me that he's close with his mom. It definitely seemed like a youngest child thing to say, too.

Mac is kind of a father-figure for Danny, and Flack does kind of look out for and protect him like a big brother, so maybe Danny has sought out the kind of family at work that he didn't have at home.

^Exactly!

(Boy, we did make one helluva character sketch. We can put this in the 'Danny Messer' entry in Wikipedia if you want.)

They're Italian, right? The Messers, I mean. Anyway, in that 'mommy' moment, I think we saw Danny in the bearest of moments, vulnerable and pretty much like a little boy.

It never ceased to amaze me how incredible Carmine delivers on these scenes. It's not easy to act these out and man, it's getting harder and harder to separate Danny from Carmine. Well, I meant that in a good way, not in a stereotypical point. Take it as another testimony on how great he is as an actor and how dynamic the character is.

That most certainly can be put up on Wikipedia!!

Its been said from the beginning that its been getting hard to differentiate the both from each other...
The Character Danny could not be played by anyone other than Carmine...

Sure, go for it! :D

I love that about him--I think it makes Danny unique among the other characters on the show. He's definitely got an air of innocence and vulnerability about him when he gets into tough situations.

Definitely--the amount of work he puts into the character really is so impressive!

Okay, I'll just find time to collate all the things we wrote on here about the character.

What more can be said?

I backtracked through some of the past entries... you've got more than enough material there... :)
With all the different impressions Danny Messer has made on each of us, it's not surprising why he's easily the most favorite character in NY. At least in my opinion, that is. :)
I read in an interview how Carmine really liked bringing forth the reality of a character across an audience... he sure accomplished that through "Danny". He said the writers merged a part of himself (~40%) to Danny's character. To have Danny seem real to us was some major feat. :)

40%?
That's quite impressive...But then again, that made Danny 40% more believeable...
Say,just out of curiosity, what percentage,do you feel, of Danny is that much real?
I feel that Danny is at least 85% real....
