Yay! New chapter.
Sara had driven home, and was waiting in her apartment for Grissom to come. It was almost time for him to be there, and she was getting antsy. She couldn’t wait, and all she could think about was how grateful to Catherine she was. This was going to be a great night.
Sara studied herself in her bedroom mirror. She looked great, but the bulge in her stomach was something to draw attention to. She thought it was beautiful, and it had only been a few weeks, but already she was showing a little bit. It was the most exciting time of her life.
Finally, at eight on the dot, there was a knock on the door. Sara rushed to the door, and swung it wide open. There, standing in the doorway, was Grissom, looking exceptionally handsome in his black suit. He was wearing a black high-neck tee shirt under a black blazer, with black slacks and shoes. He handed her a large bouquet of yellow daisies. Sara smiled, and walked out the door, locking it behind her.
“Hi,” she said, looking up into his blazing blue eyes, “I’m really excited.”
“Me, too,” Grissom replied, staring at her, “You look nice.” She smiled again.
When they arrived at his black Tahoe, he opened the door for her, closing it gently after she was in, then walking around to the driver’s side. Grissom started the car, and popped a C.D into the stereo, turning it on a perfect volume, loud enough to hear, but not too loud. Sara beamed, it was
ABBA, Does Your Mother Know? Perfect for them, and they both sang along quietly, each in turn glancing at the other, not saying a word.
Not until the arrived at the restaurant did Sara say anything.
“I love this place,” she cried breathlessly, “That’s amazing! How did you know?”
“Just a theory,” Grissom replied, looking straight ahead, reaching for Sara’s hand and taking it in his own. She felt herself blush, “A theory that has been proved by evidence.” He smiled and looked at her lovingly.
In the restaurant, Grissom had a table reserved, with candles and a champagne cooler bucket, all laid out perfectly. It was so romantic, and Sara felt herself flush again.
“This is perfect,” Sara said, sitting down in the chair Grissom pulled out for her.
“Anything for you, honey,” he said, sitting down across from her, taking both her hands in his and gazed at her, all his feelings shown in his bright blue eyes like they were windows into the deepest parts of his heart and soul. Sara looked away bashfully, just as the waitress came up to their table, pulling out her notepad. Both occupants looked up at her.
“Hi, I’m Lisa,” said the pretty, young redhead, “and I’ll be your server for tonight. Are you read to order, or do you just want drinks first? Or – Or I can come back, if you want.”
“No, that’s okay, honey,” Sara said to her, noting the girls tension, thinking she was probably new, then looking back to Grissom, “drinks?”
“Yes, please,” he said, looking from Sara to the waitress, “I’ll have a water, and..”
“A diet coke, please,” Sara said, “thanks. We should be ready to order soon, though.”
The waitress nodded, and turned to go back to the kitchen to get their drinks. The couple turned back to each other, finally ready to make conversation.
“Sara,” Grissom started, looking worried, “Are you sure.. About the baby.. Is it really mine?” Sara put her hand to her stomach, nodding.
“I’m positive, Grissom,” she said, “but it’ll be all right. I’m sure, it will.”
Lisa walked back to their table with their drinks balanced on a tray on her hand. She was looking straight ahead, making sure to keep her balance. After laying the tray on the table, she pulled out her notepad and a pen.
“Anything yet, folks,” she asked quickly, glancing behind her nervously.
“No, not yet,” Grissom said, “come back in a few minutes and we should be ready.” She nodded and walked off quickly.
After a few more minutes of loving gazes and small talk, both Sara and Grissom had looked over their menus and picked out what they wanted. Sara chose a small Caesar salad, and a slice of garlic bread, and for Grissom, being considerate, no meat, just an Italian tomato soup and a side of white rice and cheese sauce. Lisa came back, took their orders, and went to the kitchen, coming back ten minutes later with their food.
Sara picked up her fork and dug in greedily, as did Grissom. In between bites the chatted about names for the baby,
“I love Meghan,” Sara said, grinning, “or Jorja. And for a boy, Noah or probably Andrew.”
Grissom thought for a moment, and then said, “I like Jorja for a girl, too. And for a boy, I like Evan. I think it’s a really different name.”
“I think, for a girl, a middle name,” Sara took a bite of salad, chewing and swallowing, then taking a sip of her coke, “Catherine.”
Grissom smiled, and nodded. “I think I know a certain strawberry blonde who would be very pleased with that.” He was done his soup, and pushed his bowl gently into the middle of the table, Sara doing the same.
“Are you ready to go,” he asked, checking his watch, “it’s 9:30.”
Sara laughed and smiled sweetly.
“I guess we lost track of time,” she said, standing up, “I’m ready to go if you are. I can pay ..”
Grissom shook his head. “You’re not paying anything, this is my treat,” then added, “Time flies when you’re having fun. Now let’s pay this bill and get you home.”
