5 years since 9/11.. What do you think?

^^^ I'd say that's always an individual choice. Parents should be able to judge what their kids can and cannot handle...

But again we digress. Where is this new thread that's supposed to be discussing this stuff? I thought you were starting one, Roka?

I just remembered something else from 9/11... I'd spent something like 6 hours glued to my TV set and decided my head was going to cave in if I didn't go outside and try to cheer myself up. I went to see American Pie 2 to hopefully have some laughs and was sorely disappointed. Although again, it could have just been because I wasn't truly in the mood...

Baba I have already opened the new thread, and actually we weren't really digressing, we were still on the subject of 9/11 minus the political stuff. Just discussing whether parents should show their kids images or not.

Ah yes, I see that now... I'll go take a peek. However, the topic in this thread is your personal remembrances of that day.

Sure, I brought this up. I posted about wondering how parents explain such attacks to children. I posted this, because I still don´t know.
If this no rememberance, my fault.

Ohh..I remembered something. I went online after the event happened and found this picture of the Twin Towers going up in smoke. Looking closer at it, I noticed there was a devil amidst the smoke. What kind of person has that much time on his/her hands to do such a thing? And there was a small caption beneath it stating that the smoke went up and turned into a devil. Ah geez...and I thought people had better things to do.

Yeah I saw that too , but I don't think someone did that on purpose, I think they saw it in the smoke and just made it clearer.. I actually have a video similar to that but of Jesus and Mary in some smoke or something, things like that happen at times and people will film them. But the 9/11 devil thing was scary :(.

I think that that stuff was crazy man. I member watchin it with my mom when we were in Germany. Now my dad is over in Bagdagh. He was suppose to come back last month but he had to stay longer. Its weird cuz it was like yesterday that it happened. It dosen't feel like five years.

Do you recall where you were 5 years ago?

Yep.. I was at school, my senior year, second hour "Ancient World Civ." class. I got in the classroom to see the TV on and the events unfolding. I don't recall if I saw the live footage or the tape of the second plane hitting the tower, but I did see the towers fall live. Sad, sad day.

And for Americans: How has it affect your life?

Honestly, it hasn't that much; as I don't fly, drive or know anyone in NYC/DC/PA.

(randomness about September 11th)

However, I feel that the C-in-C could have done more to prevent it from happening, or at least, minimized lost of human life.

And the whole lying to the American people about why we went to Iraq and waging war on an ideal that has been around since the dawn of civilation - and will continue to be until the end of the human race (however you believe that will come to pass - Christ's Second Coming or whatnot)- so, essentially, he's just signed the death certificate for thousands of my (former) brothers (and sisters) in Arms and set a speed record for blowing our surplus and sending the Nation back into major debt. Oh, and Sir: where the heck is Osama? If you could find Saddam in how many months then why is Osama still at large - even though he's the most wanted man in the world with a $25,000 (I think) bounty on his head?
[/randomness]

I saw that too... dunno if it just appeared that way or if someone has WAY too much time on their hands...

PS: sorry if this be a "double post"...I'll try to edit next time if I find a quotable quote

i remember my mum woke me up at 6 in the morning (australian time) and told me that there had been this horrible terrorist attack or something like that... i was only in grade 7 at the time so i didnt really understand the enormity of the attack and it took a while to sink in. before then, i dont think i had ever even heard of the world trade center... but it eventually sank in... i thought there was gonna be a third world war so i got a little freaked out. but now it has sunk in and its just so scary to think that something that you think is worlds away is actually affecting the world that you live in...

Personally, the way things are going, I think WWIII is a very (grimmly) real possiblity

I have always heard from lots of older people and they could always say that they remembered exactly where they were when Pearl Harbor was attacked or when Kennedy was shot. I was always amazed at their memory. I never in a million years imagined that somthing like that would ever happen in my lifetime. But yet five years later I can remember exactly where I was, and exactly where I was the day before.

On Sept. 10, 2001 I went to Disneyland, it was with a friend for his birthday. I was 13. That night we stayed in a hotel and the next morning we woke up, turned on the T.V. and saw the first tower burning. We didn't really know what was going on than a few minutes later the second plane hit, than the Pentagon, then United 93. It was then that we knew exactly what it was. I know because for whatever reason I remembered the Pearl Harbor attack. (maybe it was because the movie had come out that year and I just remembered it from that. I really don't know why.) I know we just sat there watching, not really knowing what to do, we were scared at the time because we were in L.A. and not really sure if something would happen there as well.

Everybody should remember that day. It needs to remembered. We have to know what we are fighting for.
HOOAH!!! that is why we take the fight to the terrorists. Because if we didn't fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, we would be fighting in New York, L.A. and Chicago. I know that some people don't think that it is worth fighting for. Afganistan is 100% legit. It's Iraq that's drawing the controversy. I personnaly feel that we should only be in Adganistan right now. Yes, Saddam is evil and needed to be brought to justice, but that wasn't the battle that needed fighting right now. Avenging 9/11 in Afganistan with finding Osama and bringing him to justice is. It is impossible to fight a war on an ideal, especially one that has been around since the dawn of time. But all they have to do is open thir eyes to the threat and realize that there are people who want all of us dead or subject to their oppression. Honestly, (again, IMO) we were in less danger before we invaded Iraq than we are now. Plus, alot of the "alternitive" interigation techniques that Bush is using, were at one time declared "torture" by this very country. How is ok for us to do it, but not those that we concider "enemies"? And I know that some people want to forget that day as much as possible. Those who want to forget it should be ashamed...we must never forget To not have it brought up, to not think about. But I want to. I want to remember why we are in this war. I want to remember that there are people in this world that will go to any means to kill innocent people because they are free Americans.

I don't exactly call myself a hardline Republican. But I know that this war is necessary, that we have to defeat this enemy. What enemy? The only 'enemy' that we have in this war are 'terrorists'...again, waging war on an ideal is a lose-lose scenario They are evil incarnate. And when good people stand by and do nothing, they are no better. I never, ever forget that day, even though I have very little connection to it (I have a cousin and a few friends in the military) I have seen what has happened to our not so distant past of the 20th century. I don't want that to happen now. Its to dangerous.

God Bless America HOOAH!!!
God Bless our troops F***ING HOOAH!!!
God Bless President Bush and our leaders Um, not Bush...I'll leave my true comments about that to myself
And may God be with the families of those who lost a loved one that day. HOOAH!!!

(I'll edit this later to make it easier to read...I need to get to bed...work 3rd)

I remember i was working at a hotel as a recepcionist and saw the news on the tv of the hotel bar... i was resting, taking my time and suddenly my whole world was turned upside down... it hit me really hard... and i'm sorry for all the people that died that day.

But, and this is a personal opinion, this terrible day has being used for less honourable purposes than to bring democracy to countries like Irak or Afganistan. We have to accept that money rules the world and oil is money so... And about Bush and his politics well... let's forget about them...

I also remember vividly 3/11 in Madrid 'cause i'm Spanish and i knew people that were on those trains.

Yeah..these kind of things don't seem to surprise me that much now. When 9/11 occurred, I was 13 I guess and I was introduced to this terrorism issue. I gotta say, I was pretty shocked that some people would hurt others just to make a point. Not just hurt but to actually create a catastrophe. That's bordering on obsession to try and make a point..which has evidently FAILED. Like rubbing salt on a wound.

well.. i was @ school juss gettin in2 my music class. my music teacher was watchin tv & we asked her what was up. she said the twin towers had juss been hit. we all sat there silent & we were in shock. & us being silent was a 1st ! after 5 or 10 minutes we started class & continued on 4 the rest of the day.
