I don't know where you've been hearing this stuff about the evolution debate, I've been studying evolution since I was in elementary school. Yes, I am a Christian, but I do believe in evolution because there is obvious scientific evidence of it. The thing I don't believe is that humans descended from apes. THAT'S what people are debating, not the idea of evolution within itself.
^^ That's not what I said. SOME people believe we are descended from apes.

Holly, I’m glad you do believe in evolution. I think that a lot of the activity in the bible is metaphor. I do understand fundamentalists taking the spoken words in the Bible literally, though. For myself, I believe some metaphor is intended there, too.

Your first quote gave the impression that “apes to human” was the main point of “the debate.” Given your second quote, I’m sure that’s not what you intended. I believe there are a number of debates ongoing; the “human to ape” one is a minor one aimed at the unread. I usually avoid religious debate because it’s a no-win situation. Our religious beliefs are too close to the core of our being to be debatable.

That being said, I do have one pet peeve. I have problems with a science fiction writer starting a religion probably just to prove to his peers how gullible people are. To paraphrase Lazarus Long, the main character of one of that writer’s most successful and respected peers, “If you really want to get rich, start a religion.” And, yes, I do believe Robert Heinlein was taking a potshot at L. Ron Hubbard.

Well, there is scientific proof of this happening, with natural selection and all that. (Yeah, I kinda pay attention in Bio lol...)

But in the Bible it said God created man in his own image, so I highly doubt it was in monkey form.

But I think SEVERAL animals around today are the product of evolution. So I think it's true, but not the human part.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that Americans don't hear the word "evolution" and freak out. We DO have it in our science curriculum, so please don't talk about things you don't really know about, xfcanadian...

I've always wondered if God creating man in his own image was meant to be the final outcome. Perhaps God intended it to be understood that the end result would be man, but God wanted all creatures to know they were part of the same master plan, so all life started in the seas, made its way to land, then began differentiating and our part ended up human, all part of the master plan. Do theologians really see God as a human being ("in God's own image") or was God talking about the goodness ("in God's own image") that was intended to be humankind?

But I'd bet Barack Obama's religion is closer to fundamentalist views than John McCain's original Episcopal church.

Quick question: This has what to do with the election? Nothing.
The fact that you studied evolution "since elementary school" has squat to do with who is better fit to run the country.

This whole "raging liberals" statement that you posted is way off base. Let me start off by saying that it was the moronic conservatives that jacked this country up so bad in the first place. It's people like you who are so set in your ways. People who don't want to change their view point no matter how absurd it sounds.

And with Katrina statement, you have no idea what it's like. I went there two days after it hit and I witnessed who was taken care of first and who wasn't. I witnessed who received water first and who didn't. So please, don't talk about things you really don't know about Hollyho.

The fact of the matter is, America is not only the fattest country in the world but also the least educated. So why should anybody in the world respect what we have to say? We've built this country from bullying other, smaller countries and by automatically assuming that we should receive the position of World Police. You don't see other countries coming here and imposing their beliefs and ways of life on us do you?

What we need in a president is someone who sees the world differently and is willing to run the country in a different way than the last dumbass did. McCain is a spliting image of Bush. He hasn't aligned himself with him lately because of Bush's negative appearance, but he wasnt acting that way a few years ago. He was kissing Bush's behind, along with 75% of America.

By the way, Bush was always mentally challenged. The american people were just to blinded by the smoke and mirrors to realize it.

Here's the latest news on the ELECTIONS, and it is about the U.S. elections, and who's the best candidate for the job! And on Sat. after work, at our local mall, I got 8 people registered for Obama YIPPE for me

Actually, desertwind, everything that preceded your post on this page is about the U.S ELECTIONS because they are all issues that play into choosing for whom people will vote. And I welcome sources outside the U.S. because we are too insulated; anyone who can give me a new perspective is welcome. :D

A new perspective like what:confused: I've posted links till I'm blue in the face about all of this, and my point was, it's what they'll do, the candidates about these situations, what we'd like them to do, not what we'd do. I'll keep looking for new "perspectives" and post them when their relevant. I could go on and on & espouse my opinions about the war and the hurricanes etc, for sure, but how would that be anything that anyone would care a ratts a.. about, beings I'm not running?

Thank you for the poll. Interesting that Macedonia is supporting McCain and that the Latin American countries, though for Obama, are more closely split on the candidates. This poll closely mirrors what the Economist is finding, worldwide.

I agree that this is an interesting percentage of who the rest of the world would like to see in power. There are 54 smaller countries who are 100% for Obama compared to the one completely for McCain. Not to overlook that in the US alone 81.9% would vote for Obama. I think the tables are turning in a positive direction.

I don't know can you really "trust" it with some countries, I mean some that have 1-3 votes ;) Finland has growing number, I guess link travels in IRCchannels (that's where I found it)

One vote is better than no votes at all. Besides if someone took the time to click the link and vote that says a lot.

Thank's DaWacko always interesting to read all the different views on this:bolian:

more on the polls~GALLUP POLL! Obama is now leading 49% to McCains 40%~

POLL

Interesting article DaWacko. Thanks for the update. You know, something that is actually news. I mean who truly cares about how many people you signed up at the post office desertwind? It is not news related whatsoever. You should really go and take it to the "Good deeds of the day" thread. It's better suited there.

It's totally news related being I'm a Obama supporter, and that is news for here, on ELECTIONS who cares? I care, and maybe other Obama suporters as well & I got big kudos from the head of our campaign and congratulations as well, and I was proud as they were too! and your contributions to this campaign are?... and it was the local mall not the post offce, thank's anyway:thumbsup:
