"Pool Shark" Discussion **SPOILERS**

I'm unsure whether or not I liked this episode. The whole premise of a shark in the pool seemed so... Miami to me. And there was too much going on in the episode:

Why have Drops in an episode if your barely going to use him? I like how they capitalized on his presence to make us think he was involved, but why waste such a character for such a meaningless, short role?

I both anticipated and dreaded the Wendy/Hodges arc in this. I love Wendy and was terrified to see her leave, but I was pleased to see them give a decent - if short - send off. And Hodges reaction - particularly with the almost-homicide of poor Henry - was actually pretty good. I'm not much of Hodges fan but I did feel bad for him. And the use of a censored version of the song "F**k You" while he processed the scuba tank was hilarious.

The death of the girl felt old-school CSI. That's a good thing. A simple attempt at a robbery turned deadly. Old-school and not very convoluted.

The shark however, felt off. I mean, I understand the motivation and so forth, but really? A shark? And the thing only attacked a dead girl? And nobody noticed it swimming around until just before the attack? Again, really?

I didn't care for the flashback either. The actor they got for Sam, despite getting his smile down, just didn't seem very Sam Braun-ish. Meh.

See, that's a lot of stuff going on. Half the time I was to busy focusing on Hodges. Then I'd be wondering when Drops would show up again. I hardly thought about the actual case itself. ...

On a different note, I wasn't surprised about the lack of Greg. I knew that with Drops and Wendy and Sam references that it would be a Nick, Hodges, Catherine episode. So I was fine with that.

One question? I might have missed something but how is it that Sara and Greg are still sporting injuries from last weeks ep and Nick doesn't? Ray not withstanding, Nick was the most injured at the end of it. And here he's fine? The only evidence was his comment to Hodges about his hearing, but that sounded more like an attempt at a joke.

Overall, while I was entertained I'm not going to say this was a great episode. Decent, but not great.

You pretty much summed up the episode for me, so I will just use your analysis :) (except, I didn't really mind the shark stuff), and just add that there wasn't enough Sara or Greg for me; and, I am not a fan of Elliott Gould, so he sucked, IMO. A better actor would have done a better job with the role. (James Caan, anyone?)
A C+ from me ( the + is for Liz's and Marg's performances).

I went into this one thinking that I wouldn't really like it (sorry, but DLA isn't one of my favorite writers; his work just seems so odd and...farfetched to me. Plus, there was a damn shark in the episode  ), but I absolutely. Loved. This. Episode. It was really, really good, and really gripping from start to finish.

I liked the beginning scene with Boozell and Catherine, where he calls her Sam's little girl and she calmly corrects him that she is a big girl, and she's in charge. I love seeing Cath when she steps up to the plate. It's awesome.

I'm guessing that Mendelshon and Zuiker really were serious when they said that they want Marg to stay. Two episodes, two really strong scripts and stuff for her to work with. I don't think it's gonna work though.

I was waiting for the Shark Week reference. Thank you, Doc Robbins.

I don't know what else to say. it was a fantastic episode, probably one of my Top 10 faves.

I actually liked the episode.

Loved Nick, Brass and Drops - would have loved more scenes with the three of them. Loved Nick and Hodge's scene. Loved Elliot Gould and Catherine's scenes together - I thought he did a great job with his guest appearance. Brass was great, as usual.

I really liked this episode.

Elliot Gould made me laugh a lot . He wasn't exactly young when he appeared on Friends but he looks way older than I remembered him. I loved his interactions with Cath and the "you're Sam's little girl" bit.

I also enjoyed seeing Sasha Roiz :).

There were quite a few funny moments, definitely "FIN number" was at the top .

Wendy's exit was kind of...abrupt. Decent but, IDK suddenly she wasn't there anymore and that's it.

Anyway, good episode :)

It was a good episode. Not like last week but entertaining.I love sarcastic Brass so I am glad that he is back to his old self and that he and Catherine are in good terms now. It's fine to me if they have a fight becouse both are tough characters but their friendship should win at the end.And an episode where Marg has work to do is a winner for me.

I hated Wendy's exit.It felt awkward for me but then again I absolutely hate Wedges.Glad that she is going to be out in the field.Plot was OK,nothing spectacular but with a lot of funny moments.

First of all, I had to watch the episode twice because someone kept interrupting me to show me movie trailers or tell me stuff I already knew (yeah, yeah, yeah they're gonna release all six Star Wars films in 3D... dude, I knew that days ago lol).

The scene where the shark's fin brushed up against that girl and she thought the guy had touched her butt, so she splashed her drink in his face... :guffaw: That was hilarious!

Jumpy SuperDave LOL.

The repetition of "Sam's little girl" was annoying as hell.

It sucks that we have to say goodbye to Wendy the night after we had to say goodbye to JJ on Criminal Minds. Wonder if CBS did that on purpose. I honestly wouldn't put it past them.

Well, at least the woman was dead before the shark bit her arm off.

Drops was under-used. They hyped up his appearance in the episode and that was it? What was really the point of him being in this episode?

That was it? That's all Wendy gets? Why couldn't we have seen an episode where she hugs everyone goodbye? I know it was last minute cause this was all CBS would allow them, so I'm gonna place blame on CBS execs rather than the writers for this one... but seriously WTF? I do wish there had at least been a scene where she hugged Archie, Mandy, Bobby and Greg goodbye. It could have been set to music, there wouldn't have to be dialogue... just a quick goodbye hug scene. Oh well... at least she got an exit. I'm still pissed at CBS for the JJ/AJ thing and this just made me even angrier with them because they didn't give the writers enough time to have a bigger goodbye scene for her. But then again, at least she didn't just disappear without a trace like a certain favorite (of mine) Miami DNA tech. :sigh:

Sharks are becoming extinct? I didn't know that. Or is it just tiger sharks that are becoming extinct? Tiger sharks aren't the sharks I'm most worried about.

Oh come on, no Jaws references? I kept expecting someone to say something mocking the "we're gonna need a bigger boat" line.

Did anyone else want to hit the two bickering casino moguls with Ray's cane?

Nick making a muscle at Hodges was cute.

VIS - Very important shark. heehee.

Brass: That makes you a co-conspirator.
Drops: To a shark?

Fin number- haha, Brass ILU!

Hodges and Henry in the pool was kind of funny. I think it would have been funnier if Greg had been there with them trying to play referee when they were fighting.

Speaking of Greggo, aww he has a boo-boo. I wanna kiss it and make it better.

Doc Robbins was great with his shark week info.

It was an okay episode.

Nick being late to the scene - anyone else think he might have been talking to the shrink Cath suggested he see last week?

Hopefully we'll get to see a little bit of those sessions in weeks to come. Like the tail end of one of their talks and he gets called to go to a scene.

Yeah finally Nick sees a shrink.

I've been suggesting it all these years..
Not that I want to see it, but shouldn't Ray be seeing a shrink as well? Or, was he also a psychiatrist in his past life?

The shark however, felt off. I mean, I understand the motivation and so forth, but really? A shark? And the thing only attacked a dead girl? And nobody noticed it swimming around until just before the attack? Again, really?
I agree with you, but one point in the writers' favor is that the jewelry thief did inject the victim, and the needle prick caused a small amount of blood flow into the water, which attracted the shark.

Other thoughts:

Wish they would've hired a better actor than Elliott Gould (though he was better at the end than he was at the beginning). Basically what you get with him is loud, and not much else. The role needed more than he could give.

I kept expecting to hear the "Jaws" theme in the pool. I know that copyright prevents them from using it without permission, but I was surprised that there wasn't even a hint of it anywhere.

Wendy's exit was the only emotionally engaging moment in the entire episode, and even that felt off. Although, as someone else pointed out, maybe it opens the door for her to come back when Marg leaves. But all in all, it was sort of "meh" for me.

There is very little about this episode I actually like.

The shark thing- I'm pretty sure Miami had the same plot way back in Season 1. I hope it's not a sign that tptb have finally given up and are reusing old plots.

What the hell, Ray's back? Jeez, if he broke both legs and had a heart attack he'd still come back to work :angryrazz: At least Doc was amazing enough to make their scene bearable (and on that note, I loved how nervous SuperDave was with the pool )

I'm probably biased in favour of the actor but I quite enjoyed Elliot in this ep. Not as much as I thought I would but he made me chuckle.

Greg...was actually there? That's...that's just bad tptb. Very bad, and made this ep even worse. I do wish they'd stop screwing him over :(

The whole goodbye thing...well, I really don't like Wendy, I hate Wedges even more, and I stopped liking Hodges back in S7, so I pretty much zoned out in any scene with either of them. Shame, I missed whatever Henry was doing.

Eh...D/D-

No, Ray couldn't have seen a counselor because then he wouldn't be able to win quickest employee coming back after a serious injury award. Seriously, shouldn't Ray have been on leave? He just lost a kidney.

Things I liked about this episode:
Deadmau5 showing up was great, Catherine was being her little spitfire supervisor self again, Hodges and Henry's little scene in the pool was hilarious along with Nick's little pep talk to cheer Hodges up, the promo for next episode showing some Vartann/Cath romance.

Things I could have done without:
Wendy's exit scene with Hodges felt...forced. How were they all of a sudden in a relationship together when the last time they were shown talking about it Wendy said it could never happen?

After watching this episode I'm actually starting to realize that Marg isn't going to be around for much longer. I'm going to miss her, a lot.:(

Oh come on, no Jaws references? I kept expecting someone to say something mocking the "we're gonna need a bigger boat" line.
I'm surprised you missed it.
Hodges "why don’t you put it in my mouth and shoot it with a high-powered rifle?" was definitely from Jaws. That's what they did to kill the shark in the first movie.

LOL, I heard him say that, but I didn't connect it with Jaws. They did that to the shark in a couple of the movies didn't they?

Liz Vassey wasn't supposed to appear in ANY episodes this season. Inviting her back for a few scenes was one of those 11th hour scenarios. Last night's episode of Criminal Minds, with AJ Cook was also a last minute deal. With these situations it's really hard to give a "deserving" send-off, but I thought tonight's episode handled Wendy leaving pretty darn well. Wendy saying "I can't stay" pretty much explains what happened to Liz, too.

I didn't know it was an 11th hour situation. I still think it could've been handled better. With Melina leaving CSI: NY I could understand them not doing much because Melina wasn't appearing to give Stella a proper send off, but whenever the actor/actress is in the episode I have high expectations. The way AJ Cook was sent off was done well despite it being an 11th hour scenario. I know they couldn't devote too much time to it because Liz wasn't playing a main character, but it just felt rushed and shoehorned into the episode and I expected better.

I've only seen the first Jaws movie. I was traumatized enough after the first one.

The fish & shark puns in this one had me laughing...hook, line & sinker.

It was OK to good, not as riveting as last week's premiere-a brief summary on my take~

Soo glad Ray is back, and up an walking:bolian:

The opening scene with all the bikini clad girls frockling about at the pool The you see the shark fin and Drops and Holly Madison screams, what a great actress and she look's so natural:rolleyes:The dead girl with the missing arm, how do they do that? great graphics:eek:

Brass "You guys beat the coast guard here" Super Dave with with heebie-jeebies and all jumpy, I would be too. Greg "There's am aquatic specialist over there Cath "Maybe he can tell us how to get her out of the pool"

So who and why did someone put this shar in a casino/hotel/swimming pool?

Mr. Brazel [Elliiot Gould], owner of hotel, to Cath: "Your Sam's little girl" Cath: "I'm a big girl now, now step behind the line before I have you arrested":scream: To Nick: "The biggest shark in Vegas"

He and another old timer Mr. Macklin are long tume rivals his casino is across the street. Nick ogling the bikni clad girls:p

The short conversation between Wendy & Hodges, [and what's up with his super short hair-cut?] He doesn't even remember where she went:rolleyes: Ge said Seattle to visit her niece, when in relaity it was Portland to see her sister~

Doc and Ray, with his cane that Doc gave him. On his quick recuperating, he's a big, rugged healthy man, and apparently heals fast.. some do.. some don't what's honorable and captivating is how he never once complained about losing a body part nor about the pain. "he's a force to be reckoned with". Love him~

Brass , Nick and Drops, good to see him again, I like him. but, he's always under suspicion for something~

Brazel and Cath, and she's getting sick of him always bringin up her dad:(

Doc and Ray again, and he finds the ID # that had been sanded off, he drops his cane, but Doc says nothing just grins. they have such a good bond~

Henry and Hodges in the locker room. Hodges is so miffed off, then Wendy tells him her plans about moving to Portland a poignant scene and the hug. She'll be a field mouse unlike in Vegas. The thing about Hodges, he grieves for a whle when losing a loved one, but quickly moves on. He'll be fine and she will too:thumbsup:

Cath and Macklin, no missing sharks~

Hodges and Henry in the fight and he shoves him under the water, and look's horrified buut Henry found the hypodermic needle, the murder weapon~

Nick interogating Anya. She was good [the actress] sleazy and a thief but charming pereson to watch, with a "A don't get a crap attitude" "I'm a bad girl, with sticky fingers"

Then they find Dr. Holloway dead in the tank~

I showed a young Sam Braun with Cath, he had dark hair and brown eyes, then when he got older, almost bald with grey hair and blue eyes. Do the writers think the fans won't notice these discrepancies?

So then at 10 to 10 we had a damn power outage, big storm here, and I have no idea who did this.. So who put the shark in the pool, and why..THANK'S:thumbsup:
