There's been some debate about that. After John Hagan's suicide in 24 10-7, Calleigh couldn't work in the firearms lab anymore, but she then came back in that scene from "Shattered".

Case in point about sloppy writing and lack of accuracy--There was that scene in "Down to the Wire" that really bugged me. She's supposedly testing a firearm when Rick Stetler comes into the doorway to inform her that he's pulled her off the case. Take a good look.

-Neither Calleigh nor Rick are wearing hearing/eye protection.
-Door to the ballistics lab is open, letting the sound travel.
-Calleigh's hair is hanging around her face. If that firearm recoils, her hair could get caught in something, compromising evidence, and it's downright painful to say the least!

Major, MAJOR OSHA violations right there, and as IAB, Rick himself should have been wearing hearing/eye protection and shutting her down for not doing the same. But hey, I guess somebody thought it looked darned sexy.

To be honest, MANY of the older characters don't seem to do what they used to anymore. For the longest time, H wasn't in the lab at all. In the early years, Calleigh and Horatio had special skills, but nobody seems to do that anymore.

How I wish it was a hot tub scene-but it would be weird her with a shirt on. No, it's just a border effect I added. At closer look it looks like it though- never thought about it. (LOL)

Haha, very true! I get that it's a TV show, and that there's a certain amount of suspension of disbelief that's required, but sometimes the writers forget that the viewers still have common sense common sense. No, most of us may not know off the top of our heads what exactly is expected with a brain injury caused by a bullet, but we all pretty much know that you're not going to be back to work merely a few weeks later. Nor would the department let you set foot in the labs until you passed your proficiencies (as a means of covering their own asses. They'd probably make you do the same thing if you came back to work after being shot in the ARM, let alone the BRAIN).

I miss theses scenes too. One of my favorite aspects of Calleigh was her love and knowledge of guns. Now, the writers seem to have forgotten that she's a ballistics expert.

Oh, honey, IE? That's an awful browser to have to cooperate with. Have you tried Firefox, Google Chrome, or Opera? If it's a work computer that you can't download things on, then ignore my advice. But you have my sympathy. Even the newest version of IE is a few years behind other browsers. :(

Oh my goodness, THANK YOU. I hate the hair thing, and the writers always do it! Whether it's Calleigh, Natalia, or (in the past) Alexx, NOBODY TIES THEIR HAIR BACK FOR ANYTHING. I don't get it! Nobody's asking that the ladies have fancy, curly, over-hairsprayed, throwback-to-senior-prom up-dos! A simple ponytail is FINE.

I think the writers forgot that any of the characters have specialties. When was the last time we saw Eric in the water? Horatio diffusing a bomb? Calleigh identifying tool marks? I get that for the sake of variety, and realism, not every crime should have a dead body in water, a bomb, or death by hammer. But you'd think that since Miami is right near the water, there'd be more floaters than, say CSI:LV. Or that they could get a little more creative with the crime itself even if the body was still found in the water, or if the murder weapon was a hammer, or if Horatio had to diffuse a bomb.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, heck... my mom didn't go back to work for at least a week after she was in that car wreck and she only hurt her arm and ribs... and all she does is work with computers.

They seem to forget a lot of things. Like someone mentioned, Ryan's OCD. Sure there was that tiny subtle hint with the liquid levels being the same in his bathroom last season, but other than that, no mention. I'm sorry, but someone with OCD is not going to frickin' suck on their finger when they poked it on a dirty, rusty nail for crying out loud. And they've really forgotten that Calleigh is a ballastics expert. I liked that ep where she said about that one gun that she'd only seen it on paper and didn't know it actually existed, but she knew exactly what it was called and how it worked. When is the last time we've seen something like that with her? I miss that. :(

I've got IE7, it's my primary browser. But I also have Firefox which I use for some things. But there are a few things about it that annoy me. I can't figure out how to delete the temp inet files or history files in it for one thing. It's not a work computer, but I still have XP and my computer is a few years old. I got a laptop a few weeks back that had Windows 7 and IE8 on it. I hated IE8. To add to favorite places, you have to add stuff to a favorites bar at the top of the browser window and then drag it to your favorites window at that side. :wtf:  But that laptop was screwy, so it went back to the store. I was only able to use it for like two days before it went to a blue screen error. Word of warning, do not buy an emachines laptop.

If it were me, I'd have to tie it up and probably wear a hat because I know some of my hair would get onto the evidence. Glad I'm not a CSI cause hats don't look right on me at all. But our girls could pull it off with ease. :D

Completely true. I had forgotten about most of those things.

Been watching my dvd's of S1. Calleigh wore hairsticks, ponytails, hairbuns, and she looked so ELEGANT and stylish!

Also, more plots had to do with Cuban refugees and the more down-to-earth local Miami population--Slaughterhouse, Death Grip, etc., etc. It wasn't all rich folk, flashy clubs, drugs or gangs, and while I'm sure that's a part of Miami's culture (only been there once), there are also normal working stiffs, thank you.

Come to think of it, during S5-S6, Horatio really didn't do much of anything but strike his H-pose and say "What have we got, Alexx?" I remember him saying to Meagan Donner in S1, "Science is my discipline."

Don't know whether anyone else noticed this, but the early Miami was very, VERY political--very pro-church, anti-Castro, anti-abortion, anti-pornography. Whether you agreed with their pov or not, you knew where they stood. Guess they were worried about offending someone.

Nice to see this thread up and running, you all have had a lot to say while I was away! :)
I have to say that I agree with you, I have fallen in love with Calleigh because I like her as a CSI, a ballistic expert, the one who had to where a big white suit to do "dumpster diving" and cuold use her impossibly long hair to charm a man and take his finger prints ;).
CSI:Miami made me think about becoming a scientist (I am studying physics) because I had this model of a woman, beautiful but so smart that no man could say anything about her expertise...
I have no doubt about Emily's talent and the fact that a character have to develop with the years, but I think that some guide lines had to be followed...

    Hi guys,
I found the following article about Emily: http://cbswatchmagazine.com/blog/2009/07/06/if-looks-could-kill/

I wonder if you've seen it? I found it interesting. She talks Calleigh and her private life, without giving too much away(nobody knows if she has a boyfriend!).
Anyway, if you haven't read it, enjoy!

And then there was the old DuCaine. The old Calleigh could sling some pretty funny lines at Horatio, and it made me giggle to watch him keep a straight face (Can't remember the episode, but I remember her telling him that she preferred to see guys in cowboy chaps and nothing else. Think it was in S1).

Then there was the infamous Kill Zone scene.

Horatio: "What do you get when a six-foot man lies down with a three-foot weapon?"
Calleigh: "Hot flashes. But that's just me."

You know, with everything the writers had put Calleigh through, especially during season 3 with Speed's death, her dad's near incarceration for vehicular homicide (he was innocent after all), Hagan coming back into her life and then, finally, his suicide. That was just one season. That old, bouncy and sassy Calleigh got burned away and has not been back since. Season 4 opened with her closed and reserved. She hasn't opened herself up yet.

I agree with you but I think that at least professionally they should have kept her strong stance. I mean, where are ballistic lab scenes? They were so charming!

I know! I love Calleigh all tough and bada## with the firearms. The scene in episode in season 6 where she had to test fire all the bows from the school's archery team was right up my alley. I'm an archer. I loved it when they used to give her power tools to use and my favorite time was when she had to go "old school" with medieval torture instruments in season 1's "A Horrible Mind". She can swing that Morningstar good. Glad someone taught her how to swing that bad boy properly. There's a reason that it was used in battle.

I'd love to have them write more ballistics range scenes for her. When was the last time she fire a gun in her lab? When was the last time she was IN her lab?

The last time I remember her in the lab was "Going Ballistics" season 6 finale. Does anyone else remember a more recent episode?

Actually wasn't there an episode were she was with Horatio in the ballistics lab? One of those rare H and Cal interactions?? Man I can't remember the episode... I'll go see if I find pics.

I can't find anything... Can't even remember which episode I'm thinking about  so they probably weren't even in the ballistic's lab.
