Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

Oh man, this looks cool! I know I don't post often, but I would love to meet some people who obsess over CSI:NY as much as I do (my friends just don't get it  ). However, the $ is an issue, the last trip I took was to Boston and that's only cuz there are $15 bus rides from NYC and I could crash with a friend. But 6 months is a long time...

Since this starts on a Thursday, when would be the best time to arrive in LA? Is Thursday more or less just a day to get everybody in LA?
I say you all get your butts to LA as early as you can on Thursday. Once people get their tickets and we have an idea as to when everyone will be arriving, we can gauge how much we can schedule for Thursday. I'm all in favor of packing in as much as possible, starting as early as possible. I realize that some will be traveling from far distances, so it may not feasible to arrive until afternoon/evening. If we can at least get everyone there before dinner, that would be great. But really, as early as we have a good percentage of you in town is when I'll start scheduling stuff.

ThisIsMe - Thanks so much for posting the link for that extended stay place in Burbank! I'm generally not a great source for providing the most budget conscious options. That was perfect. Convenient location too. Though I should note that anyone staying in Burbank will definitely need to rent a car.

I've been in LA twice so far and yeah, the Universal Studios tour is pretty good. It's a theme park so we had the occasional shark show up as we were crossing this lake or Godzilla threatening to kill us all... if you like this kind of stuff it's a nice experience.

For the same price, I though the NBC tour was much more interesting because that one gets you inside the real deal. You see locations of various TV shows, sound stages and stuff, and that's what I'm really interested into.
I'd agree with Orison. The NBC tour might be a better option, depending on what people what to see. The Universal tour is somewhat educational, however, you are at an amusement park. The working studio portion of Universal is not on the tour -- save for parts of the back lot you can ride through on a tram. That one I actually have good insight into as I've both visited Universal as a tourist and done the tour and I've spent a summer in the actual studio portion of Universal. The amusement park tour is not the real deal.

As for the Santa Monica Pier, that one's a must. I know I loved it.
I'd agree. We definitely have to put that on the itinerary. You absolutely cannot go to LA and not see the Pacific Ocean. Sadly, girls, Hollywood is no where near the ocean. So we really need to schedule some time out there and the Santa Monica Pier is fun.

i shall just have to look forward to the famous highlights post that MrsG Does so well hehe make sure all you girls have a great time!!!
We will have a fantastic time and you can definitely look forward to a post rehashing it all. In fact, anyone who ends up hugging a toilet at the end of the night will definitely see that moment immortalized (and mocked) on the board.

Oh, and is JKLadis going to show up?! where is he these days? not still in the bush?!
As confirmed on my last trip to LA, he does in fact reside in Carmine's bushes. The problem is that he still hasn't managed to get the cable guy out there to install his DSL, so communication can be a challenge. We'll definitely work on getting him to come out with us though.

JustFriends - So glad you can make it! That's awesome!

As for it not being a "Girls Gone Wild Weekend"...oh come on lets put aside at least one night of total girls gone wild... I mean after all we'll want stories to tell on the board throughout the year!! ;-) LOL!
Demand for the 'Girls Gone Wild' stuff does seem to be pretty high. I think we're gonna need some kind of wild night with strippers and whatnot, but like Top said, we'll definitely havew an alternative plan scheduled for the same night to accommodate those under 21 and those not digging the man meat. ... And, oh yes, we will come back from this trip with stories.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

The plane virgins should be fine.
Uh-huh...sure. I'm still gonna obsess over it until I land in LA.

(Look, Rhonda, I didn't forget!!!)
Almost..that is. :p Since I've never flown before, when would my deadline be to get tickets? I was hoping at least a month or two.

Don't worry, I'll try my best not to make any trouble for anyone but I cannot make any promises. So, if you find that you cannot get into a strip club in the future don't blame me. *innocent whistle*
You know you're gonna corrupt us all.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

jorja, Im turning 20 this February. Just be sure to take lots of pics of the guys for me admire later

Im up for anything tourist-y related - hiking, sightseeing, tours - anything. Im such a who*e for that kind of stuff

And all the LA-based people, you've gotta show us where all the designer knock off bags are

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

You're welcome Orison and Mrs.G. That place was recommended by me by the school I went to (which was at Universal) and it truly was a great location, for me at least.
I agree with needing a car in Burbank. If you're staying in that city, transit isn't that bad, but I had the fun opportunity once of going to a meeting in Manhattan Beach on transit. It's called "riding the rainbow" because after a bus ride, you take the red line train, the blue line, the green line, etc....FUN!

It's sounds like it'll be a fun trip! I don't know what I'm doing next month, let alone 6 months from now, but I'll definately keep it in mind! It's been way too long since I've been in LA! :D

I thought I'd include some landmark pics I took for those looking forward to it :)

I've heard the Warner Brother's VIP tour or something is very good. If you want a fun place at night- my friends and I loved The Standard Downtown's roof top bar. They have big "orbs" that are like waterbeds :D I caught a few bands one night at The Troubadour and that was alot of fun too!

New York Film Academy? Been there, done that myself. :D

That would be a fun place to go. We need to hit something on the Sunset Strip.

Thanks for posting those pics! Gives the girls a chance to see what they'd be looking at.

1CSIMFan - Plane tickets are often cheaper if purchased far in advance. But definitely buy them more than 30 days out or you'll be looking at significantly higher rates. With this much notice though, I'd suggest checking rates now to see what the going rate is and then watch for a sale.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

I've been looking for tickets. Round trip with Delta is 393.00. I'd say that's not too bad considering it's from NY to CA.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

^^Thanks for the info MrsG. I am totally clueless when it comes to plane tickets but I'm gonna talk to my neighbors..they fly sometimes.

Sunset Strip sounds good.

After looking at those pics, I can't wait to get to LA. It's gonna be a blast.

ETA: From Charlotte to LA round trip, it's around $250. I guess that's good. No clue.

Darn it lookaboomerang, wish we lived closer together. Will you be flying alone?

Yep :)

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

I have also been pricing them, and my travel agent gave me a rate for $400.00 round trip, Not sure which airline though. (this includes a handling fee as well).

I thought that price was high, but when I asked around I found out that it wasn't.

If I get one of the flights I have been eyeing, then I want to leave in the morning, and arrive in LA (after a brief lay over) in the early afternoon on the 19th. (around 2:00 pm)

Look , is your dad on board yet? :)

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

*hyperventilates* Yes, I'll probably be flying alone.

And I mentioned something to my mom about it last night and I asked her if she told my dad and she's like, "Yes. I told him." And I was like, "Well, what did he say?" And she goes, "I told him you wanted to go to California in July. He wanted to know who you were staying with and what you were going to be doing. I told him where you're staying and told him he probably didn't want to know what you were going to do." My sister disappeared last night for HOURS and dad was a little ticked, so I didn't get into it with him.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

 Look , that's funny about what your mom told your dad. I have a don't ask, don't tell policy with the folks myself. But, I am 31, so I don't have to clear anything with them. But my mother has always told me that she would rather not know what I do on my off hours.

Just checked on rates from Kansas City (2 and a half hour drive for me) round trip with Delta $205.00!!!! two hundred dollars cheaper. I may drive to KC

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

Sounds like flights are reasonably priced right now. Cross country flights are often in the $500-$550 range.

Lookaboomerang - Sounds like your dad just isn't gonna have a say. The fact that your mom told him and he didn't say anything must mean he doesn't have any strong objections. I'd say you're clear for take off. :D

I'll definitely do my best to make it, it sounds too good to pass.

I have to agree. I am new to the board, but this sounds like a fun opportunity to meet up. I have had the pleasure of meeting Top41 and to hangout again and meet other cool peeps sounds definately to good to pass.

And of course Orison..there is the travel buddy thing. :)

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

Welcome to the board, Camelot! You must be Orison's friend. She mentioned you might be joining. Welcome. Enjoy yourself here and we can't wait to meet you. :D
