Would you become a CSI?

My husband is in the police academy as I speak. He is so interested in forensics. He is going to be in the crime scene unit here.

I want to be a csi but it will take me a while. I can dream though

Yes, I'm in college currently for it, and I can honestly say that I love it. Don't know how I'll be able to get a job, but... I'll cross that bridge when I get there. You have to intern first, and know how to shoot a gun.
 Are you SERIOUS!? That's AWESOME. We don't get to carry guns because we're civilians... Of course we do have to learn to unload one...that's the fun part. ;)

I am taking a course in the field of Human Behaviour (ok so it's not the science) but I believe psychology does tie with all the shows that examine criminals etc. I am in the process of studying for my final in about 6 weeks tops! Then I will continue in the program with a course called "Criminal Psychology- Psychopathic Minds". Eventually once I complete all required courses I will earn a certificate in Criminal Psychology and Behaviour.

Well I remember on the news one of the highschools here had a CSI Day where they got to do all of the stuff they do on TV. I think it sounds cool, but being in forensics doesn't interest me. I could do it, but I don't wanna.

Yeah, I'm serious. That's what I was told by one of the officer's at the Albuquerque Police Department. He said that they would rather have someone with a 4-year degree then someone with only a 2 year degree. Though, he didn't say what it had to be in. Specifically, anyway. He seemed to be surprised that I was so interested in becoming a CSI. But... good thing is, I won't have to go through the academy. :D

My brother is taking Police Foundations. One of the things he told me that In Canada the rights that a cop says to a suspect when they are being arrested is called "Miranda Readings" not "Miranda Rights" as they say in the States. i thought that was interesting.

But... the Miranda rights are the same. Weather they are called 'Readings' or 'Rights'. We had a huge dicussion going on about that. Weather they needed to keep it, or do away with it. Because the Miranda rights do limit what an officer can do. But... I do realize that the rights are there for a reason.

Reason being the rights protect both the offender and the officers involved.

My daughter's going back to central Lancashire in September to do Forensic Science..She has a degree in forensic psychology already but wants to cement it with forensic science. I'm jealous, if we had the cash after putting her through another degree I'd be there myself....
Why do you have to pay for it? I'm going, and I am going to get a loan, and pay myself. Yeah I am going to have huge debt, but it will be a great life experience. Plus, I don't think it is fair to make my parents pay for me, when I won't be near them, etc. This is just my opinion, don't hate me. *smiles sweetly*
I have applied to that uni! Although it is 3 and 1/2 hours away from me, plus the people there weren't as enthusiastic as they were at Nottingham Trent, but the course content is really good.
eggbe4thechicken, i'd like to thank you for posting all of that info up there. I saved it to a Word document on my file, so i can just read it for some more info whenever i need to. That okay?

So are you just going for a degree? Or a bachelor or masters?
Yeah, that's cool. If you have a look on www.ntu.ac.uk there is more information. ;)
I am just going to do the degree for now, then afterwards, I will specialise. Like a one year postgrad or something, no idea what though, , but I want to specialise. The toxicology and the detection of drugs in the body aspects of my course look really interesting, not sure if I will be good at it yet, though. I don't really want to become a SOCO, I would prefer to work in a lab, but I don't know yet, I will see. :)

i would love to become a forensic scientist some day, im working on it but theres nothing much that i can do in firs year high school but some day i do hope to take all the science courses in maybe grade 12 or 11 or something and get into the program. does anyone know any universities in canada that offer the courses?

My advice, which doesn't really count for much, is to wait a while. When I started high school I wanted to be a doctor/nurse, all the way up to last two years. Then I decided one day that I only wanted to be a doctor, because my mum wanted me to be one, so I thought about it more, and decided I wanted to go into forensics. That is how I came about CSI, started watching it to learn more about it, and voila, csi addict, going to uni in september to study forensics. ta-da. :D
In a few years time you may want to become an accountant, or an engineer, you never know. Live in the present for the time being, and choose broad subjects to give you flexibility. ;)

I want to become a CSI! But in the UK they're called SOCO's (Scene of crime officers!)
I'm doing forensic science at college (which I start in Sept) and really looking forward to it! When I had my interview for the college, the woman said there are visits from CSI's and stuff! I hope it's someone who owns a hummer! *prays that its Horatio or Calleigh *

I'd like to work in the lab. Some friends also say that they can really imagine me as a 'labrat'. :D
But here you can't really study pure forensics but you've to study biology with the major on genetics.
I think I just try to get an university place. *crosses fingers* :)

I'm working on it actually.

I'm an Anthropology major and I'll be specializing in Physical Anthro/Forensic Anthro. That's the closest I can get with the education system here in my country.
