Stella couldn’t wait anymore. She had to know what happened to Lindsay. But previously she pulled out gloves and examined the door. There were no traces of housebreaking. To be sure that she would not destroy any traces, Stella decided to take her equipment, which she had in the car.
On her way downstairs she met Mac and Hawkes. Mac was carrying the bag with their equipment.
“Hey, Mac. Good you come. I just wanted to take my equipment.” Stella said.
“You found something?” Hawkes asked.
“I couldn’t see any traces of housebreaking. We have to look for prints.” Stella replied.
“Perhaps we distend. What if she just overslept?” Mac mentioned.
“No I don’t think so. I wish she had, but that’s not Lindsay. She is always on time. No, Mac. Here’s something going on and I hope it’s not too bad.”
“Let’s start with our investigation. If something had happened to Lindsay, we have to find out fast.” Hawkes said.
Hawkes started to search for finger-prints – with no success. Then he took some photos.
“No one broke in. Perhaps we can find something inside.”
With a skeleton key, Hawkes opened the apartment door. They stepped in and looked around.
They couldn’t see anything unusual but they noticed the open window.
“Lindsay wouldn’t sleep with an open window. What do you think?”
“No, she wouldn’t. That’s how the housebreaker came in. You see the mud on the floor?”
“I take a sample and I look for prints on the window.”
Stella put some mud in a bag for evidence. After that she took the fingerprint brush and examined the window-frame.
“Hey, Mac, I have a part of a fingerprint.” Stella said.
“And I have a piece of wood. There’s blood on it.” Hawkes said.
“Okay, that’s all I think. I couldn’t find anything else. Let’s go back to the lab.”
“I go to the hospital. I promised Danny that I will inform him in case I find out something.”
“Don’t know if that’s a good idea. Stella.”
“Mac, you know Danny. He want to know, especially now.”
“What do you mean, especially now?” Mac was a bit confused.
“Come on, Mac. Don’t be stupid. They started a relationship.”
“Oh, yeah. Perhaps you should tell him then. I mean the case is clear. Lindsay was kidnapped. We just don’t know why.”
“Okay, you two go to the lab and I go and tell Danny.”
“Good luck, Stella”
