Warrick & Nick - Las Vegas's New OTP?

Not to be off topic, but I'd say that is very rare!

I'm not sure who started the term (someone in the Stargate fandom I think), but Nick would be known as "the little black dress" of pairings, lol. ;)
It's not completely uncommon. There's a number of fandoms out there that have one character that jives easily with the rest of the characters. :)

For me, Nick/Warrick was *the* pair right from the first episode. *shrugs* But since there's not too much fic for them, I've mainly lurked and once written in the Nick/Gil camp.

For anyone who's seen grave danger, I would totally recommend vixentric's Out of Depths

Am I the only one who would just love to see Nicky in a little black dress?

So for those who see Nick and Warrick as the pairing, what was it about them? Why do they work better than one of the other pairings?

What a great question. Chemistry for one. From the very pilot you could tell that these two, knew each other. Feed off one another. Fierce but friendly competitiveness

They match wits, and brawn. Warrick knows exactly what to say to "pick" on Nick..how many eppys has he had the sly comment?

I mean there are so many.

They help each other..always. How many times has Warrick offered to give Nick a hand on a case, add some thoughts on weird clues..how many time was Nick there for him?

Warrick tough, street smart......Nick the wonder bread..each one full of depth and I think a bit of darkness.

Warrick confident with himself.....Nick is self assured but still gravitates towards authority figures seeking some sort of acceptance. Those odd polar opposite make up.

I don’t know..I mean, they are just there. Always. Knowing which button to push to rile the other. "Invisible Evidence" for one.

In the end, I've always seen Warrick’s sense of protectiveness over Nick. From that little scene in "Blood Drops" "Stalker" and of course "Gd".

Nick not backing down when Warrick went back to gamble.

They are both very masculine men, who compliment each other.

The snappy one liners,..... just there's a spark I think between them.

*shrugs* If any of that made any sense at all.

Yeah, definitely. And they know how to push each other's buttons. ;) I think they energize each other, whether it be through competition or through the exchange of ideas. They can connect with each other intellectually and emotionally, which would make a physical conncection that much more stimulating.

(And no, I'm not going to regret asking you here! I like talkative posters.)

Let's play Analyze That Episode. Let's think about "Anonymous," from season one. In that episode, what insight did we gain about Nick and Warrick's relationship? What do we learn about them that we didn't know before? What are the great N/W moments?

WARRICK: Oh, me and him, working together? Oh, it's on.

NICK: You're going down, bro.

I love these two in Anonymous - the playful rivalry, first seen in the Pilot, comes back here with a vengeance and is further developed. They really do seem to spur each other on - its both adorable and really really funny. (And I love the fact that it turns out they're both WRONG  )

NICK: (nods and whispers) I hate you.

WARRICK: You love me. Who you kidding?

Well, now, that just speaks for itself :D

"I hate you." "You love me. Who you kidding?" is one of my favorite Nick/Warrick scenes ever. :D

One of the things I find interesting about "Anonymous" is that we get Confident!Nick. During season one, Nick doesn't always come across as confident in his own abilities. In particular, when he works with Grissom, he shrinks back.

But with Warrick, Nick feels free to throw out crazy theories and fight for them. Even though his theory (and Rick's) is preposterous, Nick is willing to put it out there. With Grissom, he needs validation. With Warrick, he doesn't.

Absolutely - there's a level of comfort there that doesn't exist between him and Grissom. In fact, it perhaps doesn't fully exist between him and any other member of the team - even when he's working with Catherine (in 'Friends and Lovers') he still doesn't feel free to completely be himself - he starts spouting 'Grissom-philosophy' 'the less the why the more the how...' and Cath has to call him on it, basically telling him to think for himself.

With Warrick, that doesn't happen. Nicky seems to feel completely free to express himself, and is instilled with complete confidence in what he does. I like seeing that aspect of his personality shine through when he's with Warrick

That's a good point. As comfortable as Nick is with Cath, he's still more comfortable and energized with Warrick.

Okay, how about the episode, "Primum Non Nocere?" What insight does that episode give us into Warrick and Nick?

PMJI, JMHO and all the usual abbreviated caveats...

I think from Nick's perspective it shows his strength and loyalty, that he's willing to go the "tough love" route with Warrick if necessary even if he knows it'll get Warrick mad at him, but at the end of the day, he's also willing to simply be there for him, follow him to the lion's den and wait for him to follow him out. He'd rather Warrick be angry with him than just let him continue in a downward spiral, but at the same time, the last scene shows that his support can also be gentle and just passive enough to work. We hope. :D

As far as Warrick, this ep showed his vulnerability. One thing I love about the CSI characters is they all have flaws, "ghosts", etc. (Well, maybe not Greg, but then maybe we just haven't seen his yet...) He was allowing feelings to enter into the work - not enough to compromise what was done, everything panned out, and he was able to walk away from a potentially disastrous situation, as much as it obviously hurt. But his old demons saw easy access and he headed to the gambling table. Instead of exploding at Nick or walking away, he seemed to be open to Nick's support. I'd love to see someone write a "missing scene" postscript to PNN (Heck, maybe I will...if I ever finish all the stuff I already have going, including a major ton of non-CSI-related things to do. Damn this having a life business! Damn I say!! ) It would be interesting to conjecture how long they stayed at that table, what they said to each other when they left. Of course, the CSI writers have a knack for leaving "just enough" to our imaginations. I would only guess that after a very few minutes the two of them walked away, Warrick apologized to Nick for his weakness (and occasional petulance) and Nick just gave him a supportive arm around the shoulders.

Watching their friendship develop over five seasons, and noting the almost passionately emotional connection between them in GD, has been wonderful to watch.

Wow, that was superbly put!

BTW, I just have one question that's been bothering me for quite a long time. What does OTP stand for? :D

Also, when they dug Nicky out, his first word was "Warrick". And then Warrick's, "I'm not leaving without Nick!" How cute is that! He was willing to die for Nick. Wow, I am SO shipping these two. Anyone else?

And Warrick's "I gotcha!" And the hand holding in the ambulance in front of paramedics and all. Just friends? Ha!

Of course they lust for eash other - that's why Warrick's always talking about his girlfriends - he just can't admitt he's head over heels for Nicky. Coz Warrick's cool and needs nobody. Won't admitt that he's got Nicky wrapped ouround his little heart.

I was a NW shipper since Stalker - because who can you see waiting for Nick by the door in the reflection of the glass if not Warrick ;)

korbjaeger: Good analysis of "Primum Non Nocere!" If you write a post-ep for PNN, let us know!!

That's one of the beautiful things about the ending scene. Nick isn't there to lecture him, or try to make him leave. He's there to show that he's not going to let Warrick push him away. He's going to stay there until Rick is ready to mnake the next move.

I never noticed that! I'll have to check that out!

I was in the mood for my boys, so I made some screen caps of them :D

The second one looks like they're having a lovers tiff...

NICK: What's this I hear about you and Greg? WTF! Are you cheating on me?
WARRICK: The way I understand it, it's YOU and Greg that are getting it on.
NICK: I...uh...well... Oh, the hell with it, lets just have a threesome.
WARRICK: Now don't go putting ideas into lament's head...

:D
