Wow Natty summond me to move my cute behiny back here. Yes ma'am, at your service! Corperal Punishment was on yesterday on Sat1 (German TV) Titled: Wie ein wilder Bulle, plain translation: Like a Bull gone wild  But the Dirty Dancing one takes the cake :guffaw::guffaw:
I don't like too, I even didn't watch it to the end. But the title - The Rotating Sex:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw: CSISenna, yes, Dirty Dancing is winning everything. But I must say that the title for Corperal Punishment is very creative. Maybe translators from Poland and Germany are in some kind of collaboration??? Who knows... and it's scary:evil:
 That's good, too! The translation of episode titles is another funny thing. Some original titles have a deeper meaning, or a connection to something in the epi. But the German ones......... I don't like the German titles of the CSI:NY epis, that's why I only know the English titles. The other ones are just confusing me.
Oh don't get me even start about episode titles and movie titles! I think one of the worst was movie The Shawshank Redemption (which is a wonderful movie btw) that was translated "Rita Hayworth - Key to Escape" [it makes sense once you see the movie] - nowadays it's just "Shawshank Redemption" in recent dvd releases
Okay, since we're on it how bout this one: Die Hard (great movie(s)). In German: Stirb langsam and in plain English erm... do I dare to say it  : Die Slow :guffaw:
LOL. That completely ruins the whole meaning of the title. International titles always crack me up. ^ In terms of The Shawshank Redemption, (which I totally agree, is an excellent movie) the translation for that in french was totally off. 'À L'OMBRE DE SHAWSHANK' which translates loosely to 'In The Shadow of Shawshank' (and I'm probably a bit off) It's not a terrible title but it's just...not the same. If someone already translated that one from french to english, sorry. I'm just too lazy to scroll all the way up. And by the way, I didn't realize we had so many from the UK here. That's awesome! Of course I'm from Canada, but still...
I never realized there were so many people from so many places, here! I always thought the US had the majority of members but I guess not. Im from the US though (Hawaii).
Die Hard in Slovak is translated as Smrtonosná pasca which means Leathal Trap. thats why people often confuse it with Leathal Weapon  when it comes to the episode titles I think the ones that translate it often get confuse with the double or hidden meaning but what I cant comprehende is when things like this happen in dubbing. last time that happen they translated arson as arsenic. I was like, WTF :wtf:
Well, subtitles have problems as well. I was watched old ER from channel called KinoTV and was highly annoyed because Kerry was "Carrie" in subtitles. Grr! Then we have actually have website where people send subtitles that have gone wrong - heard wrong or just when same word means many things - little mistake. My all time favourite "Hang in there, I'll get some help" "Hang yourself, I'll get some help" or "what's up, chit?" "what's up, shit?" then just silly mistakes like from Late night with CoB "I think I go to see Yankees game" "I think I go to see football game"
Die Hard in Polish is "Szklana Pulapka" - Glass Trap. Well, it sounds a little bit better than "Umieraj ciezko" (that's good translation of English title). And of course again - I read a book and there were something 'bout Die Hard with Bruce Willis and I started to think - what's that movie? I've never seen it. It took me some time before I notced that Die Hard and Szklana... it's the same movie:guffaw:
I even have to admit, when I first read about 'Die hard', I had no idea that they're talking about 'Stirb langsam'. So confusing. This was exactly what I thought immediately. It's really funny with them changing titles. They're really creative. When I saw the list of the German CSI:NY titles, I just thought WTF and then I had to laugh. But I already forgot them all again, the original titles are so much better.
Was just browsing the forum and saw this thread. I didn't realize there were so many different countries represented here! Too cool! I'm from the US, Pennsylvania to be exact. I love meeting people from other countries and learning from them. In college I had several foreign roommates. One from Russia, one from Japan, and one from Malaysia. I was in AIS (Association of International Students) where I met so many people, it was great! I still talk to some though most are not in the US anymore. I miss those days!
