First, you need to upload your image to an image-hosting site, such as Photobucket or ImageShack.

In photobucket, select the image you want, then scroll to the bottom of the page.
Click the button that says "Generate HTML and IMG Code"
Copy and paste the code labeled "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended"
And there you go!

If your using a different image hosting site, I'm sure it's similar, but photobucket is the only one I've used.

MaddyAnn, you can try ImageShack or PhotoBucket. After hosting, there'll be thumbnail codes for you to copy and paste when you want to post.

MaddyAnn, you need to resize your banner to fit the board regulations The max for the board is 220x75, thanks

Oh my, all I can "give" you are some links LJ-communities, where you can find some tutorials, but mostly for icons. But perhaps you'll find s/th that will help you.

gimp_tutorial, gimp_trash

Btw, this community (gimp_users) is for all questions concerning GIMP, just place your question there, I'm sure there are people who can really help you - good luck!
