Supernatural #4: STILL No Chick Flick Moments

Okay, I have to say this: I think I love Sera Gamble right now. Kind of put my mind to ease about some things regarding the new season. I'm not sure this is really spoilery, but I'll put it in spoiler bar just in case:
Sera said that it's not about Dean wanting to be with Lisa as much as it is him wanting to be part of a family unit since he's lost his own family. She said that this is why Lisa was chosen. They couldn't just choose anyone from Dean's past. They chose Lisa basically because she was the only one from Dean's past with a ready made family. Well, aside from that girl from the Lake episode, she had a son too, but she didn't exactly have a past with Dean and her son wasn't possibily Dean's... so it had to be Lisa. That makes me feel better that they aren't playing it off as Lisa being the love of Dean's life or something.

I still don't like the part about the "hard reset" on Cas' emotions, but whatever. As long as they don't turn him evil, I'll deal.

I could just hug Sera right now.

Although I'm a little upset that she won't have the guys be shirtless more often. I don't think we've seen Dean shirtless since he went to Hell (cause the makeup for the handprint scar is too difficult to do I guess).

More info today on new season from Sera.
Here's a link to an article with Spoilers from Sera. The part about Cas still wanting to help the boys as much as he can makes me happy. It doesn't sound like there's going to be a hard reset on his emotions to me. I'm not sure I want Raph coming back though. Cas has basically been pardoned by the big man himself, so why is Raph still gonna take an issue with him? I don't get it. He had issue before because he thought Cas was not following their father's orders... but its been proven that it wasn't God's orders after all, so Raph should not have issues anymore with Cas.

The necklace, which Sam (Jared Padalecki) gave to Dean (Jensen Ackles) when they were kids, was a staple of Dean's wardrobe until this season, when Dean discovered that he wasn't a part of Sam's heaven and tossed it in a motel trash bin, much to our chagrin.

So we have to know -- did Sam retrieve it?

"Maybe," Gamble says coyly. "I can say that you won't be seeing the amulet any time soon, but I can't necessarily say you'll never see it again."

When Season 6 opens, Dean -- sans amulet -- has been living with Lisa Braeden (Cindy Sampson) and her son, Ben, for a year, believing that Sam is dead. "Last season when we were conceiving the idea of Dean settling down, we knew we couldn't just choose any woman from his long history of women," Gamble says. "Dean's driving force has always been his devotion to his family. He puts family above all else. We knew that no matter what his connection was to Lisa, or how wonderful she was, or great the sex was, it's about family. For Dean it's not about wanting to be with Lisa as much as it's about wanting to be part of a family unit."

If you're expecting Lisa to die a fiery death in the season premiere as a throwback to the pilot, think again. "Lisa will be recurring in the first half of the season," Sera confirms. "She's not just a one-off thing."

Gamble has taken over Eric Kripke's position as showrunner, though he remains in place as executive producer, but that's not the only shake-up in the "Supernatural" writers' room. Fan favorite Jeremy Carver is heading up the U.S. version of the BBC's beloved "Being Human," so he's no longer part of Gamble's writing staff.

"We're so happy for him," she says. "As a fan of the BBC version of the show, it's in good hands. We'll miss him on our show, but we're thrilled for him, and the door is always open, so who knows what will happen. He could be contributing. He wrote some of our best episodes. In fact, I think if you asked Eric Kripke, away from all the other writers, he'd say that 'Changing Channels' is his favorite of all of our episodes."

Kripke has said many times over the year that he'd planned a five-season arc for "Supernatural." Now that the series has moved into Season 6, we couldn't help but wonder whether this is the end.

"We know how we want the series to end," Gamble says. "Right now, we're sort of doing something that not many shows have done in the past, which is to say we've closed out our first story and we're moving on to a second chapter. We're not necessarily approaching it as our last season, but we are prepared for the eventuality. We've got an endgame, absolutely."

By the way, just because "Supernatural" has a female showrunner now, don't expect Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki to be taking their clothes off any more often. "I think the shirtlessness ratio is the same," Gamble laughs. "It's cold in Vancouver! I have to put their health first."

GregNickRyanFan I think this is the one that you read.

New Character
The show is adding a new angel who's gone a bit rogue. The possibly recurring character is described as an attractive charmer who appears slightly manic on the surface but carries a great sadness.

We got VERY lucky. I think we were the only table that got ten minutes with Jensen, which was twice as much as everyone else. What a huge treat for he’s the nicest guy to talk to not to mention just like his co-star he’s great on the eyes. He was the only person in the press room to almost make my heart stop with his big piece of news. Most details on that below. So here it is, the full transcript my roundtable interview with Jensen Ackles at Comic Con.

Oh yeah, MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

(Jensen starts first, asking us a question) Have y'all been here for all five days? Are you burned out? You’re like “Oh my gosh, somebody end the misery. Well, we’re almost there. ” (We all nodded in enthusiastic agreement, although we were more than willing to let this gorgeous guy keep talking.)
Give us a tease…
Give us a tease (laughs). If I had a nickel… As you’ve probably heard since I’m now batting clean up, we’re getting back to bit of a season one formula in a sense that we’re putting reset on the whole show. I’m anticipating this season more than any other simply the fact that we set out to tell a five year story and we told it. So I’m like “Now what? Now what are we going to do?” Luckily we have very, very creative and intelligent people writing the show and I know they’ve got a lot of ideas up their sleeves so I’m kind of anticipating…I don’t know what to anticipate. I’m just excited about seeing what’s coming down the pipe. I’m watering at the mouth as everyone else is.
You’ve only had four episodes.
We’re shooting our third one right now.
What do you see (for the season)?
Well like I said we’re kind of getting back to the same formula as season one where it’s that monster of the week type of deal. There will be a mythology common denominator throughout the episodes like you saw in season one and two. What that is hasn’t been completely laid out yet, for me anyway. I’m sure they have some idea of what’s going to happen. Knowing what we know about the characters for the past five years and then having them put in positions where they are now…I’m mean Dean is a domesticated individual he’s got a normal job and a girl and basically a kid. Of course he still has a shotgun underneath his bed, still got the rock salt in his trunk and all that kind of stuff. He doesn’t drive the Impala anymore he drives a pickup truck. Not to say that the Impala’s gone because it’s under a tarp in the garage.
(Note, its right around this time I go into convulsions over this reveal. Jensen notices and is very amused. Once I notice he’s seeing my fan girl reaction – the only one at the table – I tell him, “That’s a tragedy!” He smiles more and replies, “I know, I know, it is!”)
It’s like he’s hung it up, he’s hung up his boots. But that only lasts for a very short while. Like anybody who has the kind of hunting in his blood he gets kind of drawn back. He’s like the mob, you’re never really out of it.
We heard about the brothers and the dynamic change.
There is. It’s a bit of a flip in motivation again like I said. Dean is domesticated now and he’s trying his best to lead a normal now. Sam is now back but is really on board with the whole hunting thing. Now it’s a job to him. It’s what he does, it’s his skill and he’s using it. He’s trying to leave Dean alone because he wants Dean to have a normal life. So there’s that kind of push and pull of he wants his brother to work with but he also wants his brother to live this normal life so it’s left him alone for the better part of a year, which is where we pick up the story in season six. And then the past catches up to Dean and Sam can’t stay away and he has to go get him and that’s where we kind of pick it up. It’s the struggle of Dean not wanting to get pulled back in but not really having a choice and then trying to figure out how he’s going to deal with the family because he knows that he can’t bring them into it. It’s kind of too late because he already has and now he’s got to distance himself from it, the one thing he didn’t want to do.
How’s he adjusting to the family life outside of his brother?
It’s cool. We just did this whole montage that we shot for episode one of Dean living this normal life. Going to bed next to a pretty girl, and going to barbeque with the neighbors, driving his truck to work, working on the construction site. It’s kind of cool because it’s completely out of what we’re normally seeing him do. It was kind of nice to play that different level of just being a normal guy. It’ll be interesting to see how he gets pulled back into it. Even though he doesn’t want to it’s kind of fun to have.
(My question.) What was it like directing? How much fun was that?
It was a lot more work than just acting (laughs). In that I’ve been acting for thirteen years so I know how to do it. Directing I’ve never done it and I didn’t want to fail so I prepped like no tomorrow. I was pouring through scripts every night, I was doing shot lists and revising them constantly. I kind of always fell back on what Kim Manners told me about directing. He was, “It’s all about the homework. You do your homework, you show up, you’ll have fun. You don’t do your homework you’re going to show up and shoot yourself in the foot.” So I knew that if I fail, it’s not going to be because I didn’t do my homework. So I did. I did a ton of it. I showed up day one with eight days of shot lists. I don’t know how it turned out yet, we haven’t seen the cut. I know the crew respected it, they had confidence in me. For a first timer, I was glad to have those guys watching my back.
Would you do it again?
If you asked me the day after I finished I would have said not a chance in hell but now the dust is settled yeah, I would.
Dean and Castiel have a certain relationship. Will that play again next season?
I hope so. Misha hasn’t been in the first three episodes so we’re still waiting for Castiel to show back up. But he does in the, well it would be in the third episode (since episode 4 was shot first). I believe he’s back. I don’t know, I haven’t read anything as far as what the relationship’s going to be like. Now that he’s the head cheese in Heaven I’m not quite sure how that’s going to alter his character. That and now Dean’s different, I don’t know, I don’t have an answer for that. I’m interested to see myself.
Congratulations on your wedding.
Thank you.
Has that changed things much now that you’re both married men on the set?
Not really. It’s just like, official now. It’s good.
Total coincidence that you guys did it after the season five finale.
Yes, total coincidence.
Was it like someone stole the other’s thunder, so close to each other.
Yes and no. I would say that if we weren’t as good friends as we were it probably would have been like, “What are you doing?” But it was all done very innocently and honestly. I was happy for him, he was happy for me. We’ve been working together this long, no wonder. I think that we’re on the same cycles now.
What kind of creatures are going to be around for the first three episodes?
I know we’ve got a Djinn, which was in “What Is and What Should Never Be.” That was the end of season two. Kripke actually directed that one. We get a revisit from those characters. It’s kind of gone since the end of season five the world as far as the evil and the monsters and demons is in an upturn. There’s monsters that’s showing up that shouldn’t be in areas that we’re finding them, are acting out of character. There’s vampires that are walking around during the day. Everything’s turned upside down. For the first few episodes it’s going to be trying to make sense of what’s going on. But we’re going to get back to those old characters which will be nice because I like season one.

That's it for now

A lot of people are speculating that they were being vague about the whole "new character" thing to throw us off and that it's really just Gabriel returning... but then Ben Edlund went and spoiled it by stating that Gabriel will definitely be back, but they're not sure it what capacity yet. Just that they do intend to have him on this coming season.

Although, they did pattern Crowley after the character in "Good Omens", so with Crowley returning, its possible that they may have the other Good Omens character Aziraphale on Supernatural. Hmm.... now that I think about it, they mentioned Raph returning, but that could be a thing to throw us off too and it's possibly not Raphael, but Aziraphale. I dunno, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Someone said they read that the new angel character would be called Balthasar (sp?), but that'd be too weird considering that one of the main demon characters on Charmed had that name.

I dunno, but this: "attractive charmer who appears slightly manic on the surface but carries a great sadness" really does sound like Gabriel to me.

I'm really crazy ... but for some reason when I read the spoiler I automatically pictured:

James Marsters on Supernatural, yes?

Probably wrong ... cause I heard he was returning for season 10 of Smallville, I don't think he could do both at once ... but they are both shot in Vancouver

I'd love to see James Marsters as Aziraphale on Supernatural. That would be awesome. :)

But if that spoiler isn't about Gabriel, then I'm wondering what exactly rogue angel means. Does it mean Cas/Gabe kind of rogue or Anna kind of rogue or Uriel/Zach, etc kind of rogue?

Also, this video. It's Misha Collins and Jim Beaver being interviewed. There's a really adorable moment in there when Jensen stops by. :D I wanna say, I :adore: Misha's shirt. And I :luvlove: Jensen's hair. :)

For those of you who do not like to hear spoilers, here's the shorter version of the video I posted above. This version only has the cute moment, no spoilers.

Adorable.

So adorable video. After Jensen, Jared should have come and hug them all too. I am sure he could do it with his long arms.

Btw, i saw Abandon All Hope. Ellen and Jo :( I hope i can finish s 5 before s 6 starts :shifty:

I would have loved to have seen Jared run up there while Jensen was still there and pull all three of them into a group hug with him. that would have been so cute. But maybe Jared was already inside where the party was.

Richard Speight Jr aka Gabriel/Trickster was on last night's episode of "Memphis Beat". :) And he had facial hair! heh.

Not sure if you all got this already if you did skip it if not well it's just rehashed.

Question: Did you get any Supernatural scoop at press tour?

Ausiello: Sure did. Considering the theme of the season is monsters, it's probably no surprise that the first big mystery concerns, er, monsters. "Sam and Dean are looking into the fact that monsters are acting off-pattern," explains exec producer Sera Gamble. "It's sort of a post-apocalyptic landscape and monsters are acting in various weird ways. It's a monster mystery." Gamble is also hard at work on an episode that pokes fun at the Twilight phenomenon. "I was just doing a bit of work on the script today with [series creator] Eric [Kripke] and he was like, 'So what is this reference to dropping an apple?' I was like, 'You don't know the dropping an apple thing? It's from Twilight!' I was like, 'Come over here! You have to watch the promo!' There are a lot of references to Twilight and our former [timeslot companion] Vampire Diaries."

Dawn O of CW said they are planning more seasons, but I think she's getting a little ahead of herself. We don't even know if the boys would be up for another season. I think it all depends on them.

Sebastian Roche has been cast as Balthazar. He's an angel who was the only one on Castiel's side that time that Cas was sent back to Heaven to be "reprogrammed". So Cas is getting an angel buddy. That's kind of nice, but I really want them to give us some Cas/Gabe brotherly bonding moments this coming season too. And I want some Dean/Cas friendship moments also (and even some Sam/Cas friendship moments and Bobby/Cas friendship moments). :) I also desperately wanna see Crowley and Gabe interacting.

 Oh, our silly, silly boys. :guffaw:

Raphael will be back. He'll appear in episode 3 (depending on whether they actually show that episode before they show "Weekend At Bobby's" which was the third one filmed, but supposed to be episode 4), which is also the one that Balthazar is in (although Balthazar might be in more than one episode). As far as I know, Raph is only in this one episode.

I hope he doesn't want to kill Cas again or something now that he knows that the orders that he and the other angels were following were not that of their father's, which means Cas was in the right. If Raph does try to hurt Cas, I can see Gabe or Balthazar appearing and stopping him. Unless the writers let Dean and Sam appear and Dean kills Raph like he did Zach.
