"A Scanner Darkly" has been nominated at the Cannes Film Festival and a press conference has been held there on Thursday 25th May. If I find out anymore information I'll let you guys know.

That's wonderful news, calleighspeedle. :D Thanks for sharing it with us. How did you happen to hear this? Was it something you saw on tv?

0_0 And what lovely pretties they are casey san! I love the second one.

Yes, and I to say who cares about critics! There just a bunch of mindless bubble heads anyways!

Great pictures. Especially the layered shirt. :D

I also found a really BIG article in my local newspaper this morning about A Scanner Darkly. :)

Thanks for the links, calleighspeedle and Chez! :D

I agree completely, who cares what critics think, I like to make up my own mind about things. ;)

ckyprincess...great to see you back, and I love the pics. :D

heh, the other day, i was at a drivers education course for school, and the place we went to was called "RYDA" but when i first saw it i could swear that it said "RAYD" and i pointed at the sing and started laughing, until i realised what it actually said

I never listen to what critics say, usually I find the opposite of what they say true for me. That means I will love A Scanner Darkly. :) Love all of the Speed pics and I also love the layered shirts on Speed.

Wow some mixed emotions concerning A Scanner Darkly.

One phrase that really got me was:

" A Scanner Darkly is disappointing, especially coming from the usually very solid Linklater. Harrelson and Rory Cochrane’s performances are way too over the top."

I don't know about you guys, but I could care less if their peformances are over the top. I could go to any movie and say "This person couldn't act their way out of a paper bag" But I at least give the characters a chance, and respect the fact that other fans don't seem to have the same opinion as I do. I think I've learned from coming here at Talkcsi, that everyone's opinion however is valuabe nonetheless, and I respect this person's opinion about the acting in A Scanner Darkly. It is in no way suggesting that I'm not going to see the movie.

Personally, I think anything that Rory is in that's new would be considered over the top acting because in CSI:Miami we didn't get much from him and even when we did it was subtle and it worked immensely for the character.

So, I'm still going to see the movie despite what the critics think.

Regarding the over the top thing...having not seen the movie, I can't judge one way or the other yet, but I will say that given that this is an animated type movie, I'd think some 'over the top' style acting would be expected. I seem to recall reading somewhere where Rory said he intentionally made his facial expressions more exaggerated so that it'd translate better once the animation was laid over the actual filmed scenes.

That's not an exact quote, btw. And I seem to remember reading that in here, maybe?

Again though, I think everyone has the right idea: ignore the critics and judge it for yourself.

The greatest majority of things I like (movies, music, tv shows) have been panned by critics, it doesn't bother me at all, lol. ;)

I really hope that the movie will make it to the theaters here in Germany and i´ll definitely be there, so matter what the critics say.
If his performance is over the top, that´s fine for me. I really enjoyed the clips of the movie i have seen so far, ESP. the ones with Freck. He would be my fave character even if it wouldn´t be Rory. Keanu Reeves character looks kinda boring...
