Sara/ Catherine and Grissom in Highschool-Sara a Cheerleader

Re: Sara/ Catherine and Grissom in Highschool

Chapter 10 (from Sara's POV)

Wow. I was actually the co-captain of the cheerleading squad. I didn't get it. I didn't even think I was going to make it. And I messed up on my individual routine. So how come I made it? And Calleigh didn't?

The paper also said practices were on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 to 5:00 in the gym. So the next day I walked inside the gym nervously. What if I was terrible? What if none of the girls liked me? Relax, I told myself. Half of these girls are new to this, too.

Before the practice started, I found out that Yelina, Megan, Stella, and Lindsay were also new at cheer. Sofia, Natalia, and Aiden had done it last year. Sofia walked up to me. Without her posse. "Hi, Sara," she said, actually being nice.

"Hey," I said.

"Since Calleigh isn't a cheerleader this year, and I don't know what's up with that because she did really well at the tryouts, I'm the new queen bee of the popular clique, and you are going to be my best friend," Sofia said.

Be Sofia's best friend? Did I have a choice? "But what about Catherine and Grissom?" I managed to say.

"You'll have to ditch them," Sofia told me. "You're a cheerleader now, Sara. You can't get out of this."

I kept repeating those words over and over again in my head. "You're a cheerleader now, Sara. You can't get out of this." That was when it sunk in. I really was a cheerleader. And I was going to be Sofia's best friend. Did that mean I would have to diss Catherine and Grissom? I hoped not. Ditching them was already too much to handle.

"Um, ok," I stammered. When I wanted to be a cheerleader, I didn't really think I would have to ditch Catherine and Grissom if I made it. Why didn't I realize it.

"Good, because you need to do it. Tomorrow. Or else you're out," Sofia said. Then she turned around and headed toward Yelina and Lindsay. Megan and Stella came up to me.

"Hey, Sara," Stella said. "I'm Stella. She's Megan," she said, pointing to Megan.

"Hi, Stella. Hey, Megan," I said.

"So you're new at this, too?" Megan asked.

"Yeah," I said. "And I have to be Sofia's best friend. Lucky me."

Stella stared at me, looking surprised. "Are you being sarcastic?"

"Yeah, but she's making me ditch my best friends by tomorrow. Or I'm out," I said.

"Who said that's up to her?" Megan asked.

"I don't know. But my best friend didn't want to try out," I told her.

"Megan and I are best friends," Stella said.

"And we don't diss people. We're nice," Megan said.

"But Sofia does," Stella said. "And maybe you were right about Sofia, Sara. Do you want to be best friends with us?"

"Yeah. We could try it for a week. See how it works out," Megan said.

"But I'm supposed to be Sofia's best friend!" I exclaimed.

"Well, you don't need to tell her!" Stella said.

"We'll leave it up to you. Tell us what you think after practice," Megan said. Then they both turned around and left.

So I needed to ditch Catherine and Grissom and decide whether I wanted to be secret best friends with Stella and Megan or not. This was too confusing. What was I thinking when I wanted to try out for cheerleading in the first place?

Re: Sara/ Catherine and Grissom in Highschool

Chapter 11 (from Sofia's POV)

I looked across the gym and saw Sara talking to Stella Bonasera and Megan Donnor. Neither of them had been cheerleaders before.

I didn't like the squad this year. What was Coach thinking when she made up the list? She put a bunch of dorks on-and left Calleigh out.

Only Natalia and Aiden had done this last year. Everyone else was new. And the really confusing part was-how did Sara Sidle get to be co- captain? But now I was the queen bee of the popular clique, and Sara was going to be my best friend. I would just have to get used to her and all the other new people.

I glanced at Sara, Megan, and Stella for another minute, then looked back to Yelina and Lindsay. "So when is this practice gonna start?" Lindsay asked.

"In a few minutes," I told her.

"Who's in charge of this, anyway?" Yelina asked.

How stupid could they get? I forced a smile on my face, trying to be friendly. They were supposed to be my friends, anyway. "Coach," I said. "She's supposed to be in charge of us, but we usually do things by ourselves." Yelina and Lindsay both nodded. They looked so stupid. I had to get away from them. "Natalia and Aiden can tell you more about the squad," I said quickly.

"Ok," Yelina said. She jogged over to where Natalia and Aiden were standing. They both looked totally confused-like dorks had taken over our squad. I was just as confused as them. I'd have to talk with them later.

I expected Lindsay to follow Yelina, but she didn't. "Aren't you going to go with her?" I asked her.

"No, I wanna stay until the practice starts," Lindsay said.

I checked the clock. 3:15. The practice was supposed to have started fifteen minutes ago. "Uh, Coach is running a little late today," I told her. "Maybe you could go hang out with some of the other girls."

I glanced across the gym. Yelina was babbling on about something to Natalia and Aiden with a huge smile, but Natalia and Aiden were just staring at her. Aiden said something to her, and Yelina turned around and ran back to where Lindsay and I were. I jogged over to where Natalia and Aiden were.

"Do you either of you know what's with the two of them?" I asked them.

"Yeah," Aiden said. "They don't belong here."

"They've both had a reputation as dorks for a long time," Natalia told us. "They never really hung out together. Then, without knowing the other one was trying out, each of them tried out for cheer because they wanted to be popular, and somehow, they made it."

"They got their wish," I said. "But they're not going to very popular at all when we're alone."

"What's up with the Coach?" Aiden asked, changing the subject.

"I don't know," Natalia said. "Are you sure it's Wednesday?"

"Yeah," Aiden said.

"Hey, Sofia, what happened with Calleigh?" Natalia asked.

"I don't know why she didn't make it," I said. "She was perfect at tryouts. Maybe I'll call her tonight and find out. I don't want to be seen with her at school, since she's now a dork."

It was weird saying that. I don't want to be seen with Calleigh at school, since she's now a dork. How could this have happened?, I wondered. It was all too confusing.

An announcement came over the loudspeaker. "All cheerleaders please report to the principal's office." Natalia, Aiden, and I started walking out of the gym.

"What's going on?" Aiden asked?"

"Does this have to do with the Coach not showing up?" I asked.

"What happened?" Natalia said. We didn't say anything else. I looked back and saw Sara, Stella, and Megan walking together. If Sara was supposed to be my best friend, I would have to try to be with her more often. Behind them Yelina and Lindsay were both walking alone. They looked at each other, then looked away. Too awkward for some reason. Something was going on between them. I'd ask Natalia.

"Natalia, has anything been going on between Yelina and Lindsay?" I asked.

"Well, they used to be best friends, but then Calleigh got them mad at each other and broke them up last year. I think you were sick that day, Sofia," Natalia said.

"Oh." We finally reached the principal's office and all went inside. The principal was sitting down at his desk. The coach was standing next to him.

"It has come to my attention that for the past half hour, The coach has been locked in the janitor's closet," he said. "She doesn't know who did it, but the person who did it blindfolded her with a cheerleading uniform." All of us started talking together. "Those were handed out yesterday, so I believe that one of you is responsible for this," he continued.

We all started talking again. Except for Yelina and Lindsay. They just stood there. "Until we find out who's responsible for this, cheerleading is called off. And, of course, whoever did it will not be able to stay on the squad," he said. "I'll mention this at an emergency assembly tomorrow in the morning. I'll see you then." Then he spun his chair around and started talking to the coach.

We all gaped at him for a minute. Then we turned around and left, talking. I glanced at everyone. Natalia, Aiden, and I were talking together, and so were Sara, Stella, and Megan. Even Yelina was tagging along with Sara, Stella, and Megan and talking to them. But Lindsay was walking alone. Looking guilty. Very guilty.

Re: Sara/ Catherine and Grissom in Highschool

Chapter 12 (from Lindsay's POV)

Cheerleading was called off. I had finally made it on the squad.
At least until they found out who locked Coach in the janitor's closet. And I knew who it was.

Directly after school I was walking to the gym for cheer, but I decided to take a different way then everyone else, because I didn't want anyone to see me, since I had a reputation as a dork.

Anyway. On the way I was taking, I passed the janitor's closet. I saw Calleigh there, holding a cheerleading uniform and a key. I didn't want her to make fun of me, so I decided to just be friendly. "Hi, Calleigh," I said brightly.

"Hello, Lindsey," Calleigh said in a cold voice. She glanced to the left and saw Coach coming. Coach was turned around, walking backwards and talking to another teacher. "I think you should be going now."

"Uh, ok," I said. I knew something was up, and I wanted to find out what it was. So I walked straight, then turned to the left and stopped. I turned around and looked around the corner. Calleigh had gone in the janitor's closet. Coach turned around and started walking faster.

When she reached the janitor's closet Calleigh reached out and tied the cheerleading uniform around her face, blindfolding her. "Hey!" Coach yelled. Calleigh came out of the janitor's closet and shoved Coach in the janitor's closet. Coach was blindfolded, so she wasn't seeing any of this.

Calleigh slammed the door of the closet, took the key she was holding, and locked the door. Then she walked straight ahead and turned left. That was exactly where I was. And she saw me.

She stared at me, surprised. "Did you just see all of that?" she said meanly.

"Um, yeah. What did you do that for?" I asked.

"She didn't put me on the squad when I was perfect," Calleigh said, her eyes blazing angrily. "And you'd better not tell anyone you saw me do this, or you're not going to have a social life, ever."

"Calleigh, I'm a cheerleader, and you're not," I told her.

"Well, you're not going to be one anymore if you tell!" she snapped. Then she stormed away.

And now I was the only one who could do anything about it. The principal was going to announce it tomorrow morning-and there was no way Calleigh was going to admit she did it, and no one else was there.

Sofia was staring at me, probably noticing how guilty I looked. I ran up to Sara, Stella, Megan, and Yelina and tagged along, but didn't talk to them. Suddenly Sofia grabbed my sleeve and pulled me aside. "What are you doing?" I snapped.

"You did it, didn't you?" Sofia asked.

"Did what?" I asked, even though I knew what she was talking about.

"You know, Lindsey!" Sofia snapped.

"Ok, I'm going to tell you the truth, but there's no way you're going to believe me," I said. Yeah-like she'd actually believe Calleigh did it.

I opened my mouth to tell Sofia, but then I remembered something Calleigh had said. "You'd better not tell anyone you saw me do this, or you're not going to have a social life, ever." But Calleigh had no control of that, now that she wasn't a cheerleader? Right?

"Come on, tell me," Sofia said.

"But Calleigh told me I couldn't tell anyone!" I protested. Then I realized I'd done it. I'd told Sofia the truth.

"Calleigh did it?" Sofia asked.

"Um, yeah." Now that she knew who it was, I could just tell her all the details. So I repeated to her everything that had happened. "Do you believe me?"

"Well." Sofia said.

"Don't worry, I'll get proof," I said.

"You're going to tell? When Calleigh said you were never going to have a social life? Like you already do," she said.

"Hey!" I said. "But I'm a cheerleader. She has no power over me."

We reached the gym. I grabbed my backpack and headed out of the gym. I crashed into Yelina on the way. "Watch where you're going!" she said.

"I can't believe I used to be friends with you!" I exclaimed.

"How did that happen?" Yelina asked, her voice softening a little bit.

"Calleigh's fault. We never got over it."

She looked at me softly, putting her backpack down. For a minute I thought she was going to make up with me. Then a mean expression came back on her face. "I'm so glad Calleigh broke us up. Someone had to," Yelina said. She picked up her plaid backpack and left.

Could Calleigh really ruin my social life when she wasn't a cheerleader? Should I tell? Or shouldn't I?

Re: Sara/ Catherine and Grissom in Highschool

Chapter 13 (from Calleigh's POV)

After school on Wednesday, I was depressed. I had spent the whole day avoided everyone. The point? I had no friends.

I dropped my denim backpack and sat down on my bed. My phone rang and I picked it up. "Hello?"

"Caleigh?" a familiar voice said.

"Yeah?"

"This is Sofia."

"Oh. Hi," I said, probably sounding really stupid.

"Calleigh, what happened?" Sofia asked. "Why didn't you make the squad?"

"The whole slippery book thing," I said. "Coach didn't put me on the squad because she thought I have bad sportsmanship. What's up with that?"

"I don't know," Sofia said.

"Are-are you going to treat me like a dork?" I asked her.

"Well.I kind of have to."

"It's not a law, Sofia! Ok, maybe it is at school, but other people don't have to know!" I exclaimed, desperate not to be a dork.

"Well.ok. Fine, we can be secret friends," Sofia said.

"Best friends?"

"My best friend is supposed to be Sara Sidle, but cheerleader or not, she's still a dork," Sofia said. "So, yeah. Secret best friends."

"Ok, great. Later," I said. Then I hung up.

I needed to make another call. To Sara Sidle. I dialed her number. "Hello?" a voice said.

"Hi, Sara, this is Calleigh," I said.

"Calleigh?" Sara sounded surprised.

"Yeah, I guess wanted to let you know, Sofia-" I started.

"Sofia what?" she said, sounding bored. "Why can't I just talk to Sofia herself?"

Wow. Sara was actually sounding.different! Not like herself. But this had to work. "Sofia's busy," I said quickly. "She gave me a message to give to you."

"She gave a message? To a dor-"

"Don't call me that!" I yelled. I took a few deep breaths to calm down. "Sofia doesn't want to be your best friend. She thinks you're a dork."

"But-" Sara started.

I hung up and laughed. Well, Sofia didn't tell me to tell that to Sara, but why not? She didn't say not to!

My phone rang. I picked it up, still laughing. "Sara, give it up," I said.

I thought for a minute it wouldn't be Sara, but it was. "Why? Sofia told me I was going to be her best friend-"

"It's practically a law, Sara. She has to say that."

"Stop interrupting me!" Sara yelled. "I don't even want to be Sofia's best friend. And I'm gonna find out tomorrow if you really were supposed to tell that to me!" She hung up.

I quickly called Sofia and told her what had just happened so I wouldn't humiliate myself tomorrow. Then I logged on my computer. As soon as I logged on, I got an IM.

CATHY: Hi, Calleigh.

BULLET-CALLEIGH67: Catherine, get out.

CATHY: Why should I?

BULLET-CALLEIGH67: You're a dork!

CATHY: Well, so are you.

BULLET-CALLEIGH67: I just talked to Sara on the phone. She's having some best friend problems.

CATHY: Huh? What are you talking about?

BULLET-CALLEIGH67: She's supposed to be Sofia's best friend, but neither of them like each other.

CATHY: But she's my best friend.

BULLET-CALLEIGH67: Yeah, maybe she is. But she's supposed to be Sofia's.

CATHY: I know, whatever. I have to go.

Catherine logged off. I laughed. I knew that Sara had to break up her friendship with Catherine and Grissom by tomorrow. But I didn't want to ruin the surprise.

Haha. Secret best friends...

Re: Sara/ Catherine and Grissom in Highschool

Chapter 14 (from Catherine's POV)

I had just instant messaged Calleigh, and she said Sara had to be best friends with Sofia. When Sara told me she was trying out for cheerleading, I hadn't realized it would be hard to keep our friendship. My phone rang, so I answered it. "Hello?"

"Uh, Catherine, it's sara," I heard a voice say.

A minute later Sara, Grissom, and I were all on the line. "So what's up?" Grissom asked.

"Well, Sofia's going to-well, kick me off the squad if I don't do a certain thing by tomorrow," Sara said.

"And what's that certain thing?" I asked.

"Um-well." Sara started.

"Come on, Sara. What is it?" Grissom asked.

"Yeah. Whatever it is, we'll understand," I said.

"Really?" Sara asked.

"Yes," Grissom and I said.

"Fine. I-I have to ditch you," she said.

"WHAT??!!" I screamed into the phone.

"I don't even know why I'm telling this to you, Grissom, since you weren't my friend anyway, but I just want you to know you can't keep trying to make up with me," Sara said.

"Fine," Grissom said. I heard a click. He'd hung up.

"Catherine, you understand about this, right?" Sara asked. "Right?"

Do I understand? No way! It's not like I could just go hang out with Grissom- he wasn't my friend anymore. So who would I hang out with? The dorks?

"Um, yeah, sure," I managed to say. "I understand completely." I gave a little nervous giggle. "I'll talk to you later. Bye," I hung up. Then I grabbed a pillow and screamed into it.

Later the phone rang again. It was Grissom. "Catherine, I want to tell you what really happened?"

"All right," I finally agreed. Then he told me how he'd had a crush on Sara and wanted to do something about it but had a terrible friend.

The next day, Thursday, the principal called an emergency assembly. I sat down, and Calleigh sat next to me. What was up with that? "So, Catherine," Calleigh said. "What happened last night?"

Huh? What happened last night? What was she talking about? Oh, of course. She wanted to find out if Sara and ditched Grissom and me (well, she'd already ditched Grissom). But she had no business knowing about that, since she wasn't a cheerleader. "Nothing," I said.

"Where's Sara?" Catherine asked.

"She's with the cheerleaders," I said, trying not to let Calleigh get her way and find out that Sara ditched me.

"Why isn't she with you?"

This was going to be harder than I thought. "She just wanted to hang out with the cheerleaders, for, um, one day to see what it was like," I said, making something up quickly.

"Really?" Calleigh said. "Because I heard that all the cheerleaders have to hang out with each other, or else they're out. The rest of the cheerleaders would just tell Coach they quit."

"Fine! You win!" I blurted out. "Sara did ditch me last night!" The minute I said it, I regretted it. But I couldn't keep making up these corny excuses.

"Great!" Calleigh said. "I guess your little group finally did break up!" Then she stood up and walked away.

I just sat there. How could Calleigh have done this to me? Was this all her idea to break us all up? But now Sara, Grissom, and me were over. I would just have to find new friends.

Finally the assembly started. "I just wanted to let you know that the pep rally is called off," the principal said.

People started talking. I heard voices from behind me. "He just said cheerleading was called off!" "He didn't say anything about that!" I turned around and found myself face to face with Sara and the rest of the cheerleaders. (Mainly Sara because she was sitting directly behind me.)

"Sara?" I asked.

"H-hi, Catherine," she said.

"Sara!" a girl said. She looked away and started talking to her.

I turned around and looked back at the principal. He went into a description of how cheerleading was called off. Something about Coach. But I wasn't really paying attention. I kept thinking about Calleigh.

I remembered how Sara, Grissom, and me did everything together. But now that was over. Just because I had a crush on Grissom and Grissom had a crush on Sara, and we were acting weird around each other. And the rest, well, I didn't want to think about it.

This was a mess. Who knew that eighth grade could be so complicated?

Been though it, believe me. It wasn't fun, and I wouldn't want to do it again. High school isn't much better.

Re: Sara/ Catherine and Grissom in Highschool

Chapter 15 (from Sara's POV)

Ok, I'd done it. I'd ditched Catherine. And I'd said yes to Stella and Megan. I'd done everything I was supposed to. (Well, actually, Sofia wouldn't have wanted me to say yes to Stella and Megan's friendship.) So why didn't I feel right?

Well, of course I felt guilty that I ditched Catherine. Everything was right with the cheerleaders-only Calleigh didn't have any friends, so would have it been better if I just hadn't even tried out and Calleigh wouldn't have made it?

I pushed these thoughts out of my head. I was a cheerleader now. I had power over everyone else. I walked confidently down the hall (well, I wasn't really confident, but I at least pretended to be) and joined Stella and Megan. We started walking to our next class when we walked into Sofia. "What are you doing?" Sofia asked.

Megan gave her a confused look. "Uh, walking?"

"Well, why aren't you with the rest of the cheerleaders?" she said. After she said it, Natalia, Aiden, Yelina, and Lindsay joined Sofia.

"We couldn't find them," I said.

"Why do you want to know, anyway?" Stella asked.

"Because we all have to hang out together. We can't be breaking off into little groups like this. And Sara, you're supposed to be my best friend," Sofia said. She turned around and joined the rest of the cheerleaders other than Stella, Megan, and me.

The three of us turned away from Sofia and started talking, but we weren't going to our next class yet. We just stood there. "Who said she was the boss of everything?" I asked.

"Well, she's the captain. And Sara, you're supposed to be her main follower," Stella said.

"Her main follower?" I asked, confused. This was getting a little weird.

"Don't you realize it? The cheerleaders are all Sofia's followers. And you're her best friend-" Megan started.

"I'm not her best friend!" I pointed out.

"Well, you have to agree with everything she says," Megan continued. "All of us do."

We heard someone snap their fingers. We all turned around and saw Sofia. She was still there, along with the rest of the cheerleaders. "Sara? Stella? Megan? We're standing here like idiots," she said.

We all joined together and started walking. Suddenly Sofia pulled me aside. "Lizzie, we need to talk."

"Fine. What is it?" I asked her.

"Why are you hanging around them-" she pointed to Stella and Megan "-more than you're hanging around me?" Sofia asked.

"Because, well.if you're supposed to be my best friend, you don't act like it!" I burst out. "Catherine and Grissom were my true best friends, and you don't even act like I'm your friend!" I repeated. "All you're doing is-"

"Sara, I don't want to be your best friend any more than you want to be mine."

"Then why are you making such a big deal about it?"

"Well, every year it's always like this. The cheerleading captain is the queen bee, and the co-captain is her best friend," Sofia explained.

"I think I know that Sofia! I'm not stupid!" I yelled at her. "And cheerleading is called off, anyway, so why do I have to hang out with you?"

"Fine Sara, you won't," she said. "You just have to figure out who locked Coach in the janitor's closet yesterday and make sure cheerleading is back on by practice tomorrow. Otherwise you're out."

I was out? She couldn't do that! "Oh, and one more thing Sara," Sofia said.

"What?"

"Don't think I don't already know who did it."

WHAT??!! Sofia already knew? So why couldn't she just get cheerleading called back on herself? Why did she have to make me do it?

Sofia was supposed to be my best friend. So why was she doing this to me?
