Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Futon Critic and Zap2it both say Grey's came in first:
ABC (households: 8.6/14, #2; adults 18-49: 5.2, #1) was once again the network to beat on the first day of the May sweeps period thanks to new episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" (households: 12.9/20, #1; adults 18-49: 8.3, #1)

CBS "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (households: 12.2/19, #2; adults 18-49: 5.9, #2)

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Yes, Grey's did come first - in ratings. You can have higher ratings, but still have fewer viewers. Grey's does well in the key demographic, and thus it "wins" the night, even though CSI had more people overall.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Oh okay, it all so confuses me, this ratings game.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

^Doesn't surprise me. I don't remember seeing too many ads for this one and sometimes with a break between episodes, some people forget to tune in.

Then again, I don't know a lot about ratings and with the way things have been going so far, CSI is still number 1, right? Or close to it? (I guess I mean number 1 over Grey's, not overall)

Yeah, CSI is still the #1 scripted show on TV overall according to www.zap2it.com 's season ratings list.

Due to the fact that it is more for advertisers than viewers, they include repeats because, of course, advertisers still sell their products during that time, and the fact that CSI gets higher ratings for its repeats than Ugly Betty gets for original episodes would be of great interest.

Ending Happy was the lowest rated episode this season.

If you're excluding the Thanksgiving episode.

In canada, CTV will actually stick in csi reruns, either vegas, miami or new york, when other shows have reruns...instead of showing reruns for that show. They do that for shows like criminal minds and er all the time. CSI reruns are so valuable.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Yeah - like the one time they put a CSI: rerun instead of GA on.. A bunch of people I know missed the actual new episode.. I believe it was Fallen Idols? Not sure. I think the season is going fairly well with the limited promotion and advertisting they are doing..

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Sorry to double post, but my posting time is up.

I heard somewhere that Neilson can now track DVR users? (Well, can get the ratings from people who use DVR instead of watching it when it airs) sarahvma do you know anything about this?

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

From TV Guide online:

According to data released by Nielsen Media Research and specifically studying the week ending April 8, House and Lost gained the most viewers via DVR playback, adding 2.7 million and 2.5 mil to their respective tallies. The Office enjoyed the largest percentage gain (31 percent), while Friday Night Lights' boost may, just may, encourage NBC to schedule a second season. "It's a show that's struggling to find its audience," NBC's research chief tells the Hollywood Reporter, "yet when you look at the total viewing, there's 16 or 17 percent that you never see in the live [data]."

The networks' hope is that DVR-adjusted numbers will come into play at this year's upfront talks with advertisers who thus far have hesitated to give much due to the record-and-watch-later gang.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

It does count people with DVR's, but those people still need to have a people meter.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

Just adding something to the discussion, but here is what Marc Berman had to say about last night's ratings for Desperate Housewives:

ABC’s Desperate Housewives, of course, dominated from 9-10 p.m., with 16.85 million viewers and a 6.6/17 among adults 18-49. But the formerly addictive dramedy averaged 21.30 million viewers and an 8.9/20 among adults 18-49 on the year-ago night, also based on the final nationals. Comparably, that’s a loss of a considerable 4.45 million viewers and 26 percent among adults 18-49.

That's down about 21%

Here is what Lost had a couple of weeks ago:

ABC’s Lost (a stellar episode, probably the best of the season) moved into the top spot, with 11.50 million viewers and a 4.8/14 among adults 18-49. But compared to a repeat of CBS’ CSI: NY (Viewers: #2, 10.31 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1/ , its advantage was only 1.19 million viewers. Comparatively, the final national performance for Lost at 9 p.m. on the year-ago evening (April 5, 2006) was a considerably heftier 16.38 million viewers with a 6.9/17 among adults 18-49.

It can barely beat a repeat of CSI:New York (which is also way down this season) and has lost 30% of its audience from last year.

Honestly, if two huge hits in their third season are falling the same amount, or lower, than a show in its seventh season, doesn't this say something about TV watching in general right now, but also about CSI's strength? These two shows don't have any powerhouses going up against them, either.

Finally, American Idol:

Fox’s American Idol opened the evening with 25.66 million viewers and a 9.6 rating/27 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. But year-to-year, the still top-rated reality/competition was down by 3.01 million viewers and 17 percent in the demo (Viewers: 28.67 million; A18-49: 11.5/30 on April 25, 2006).

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

I know this thread is approaching the 1000th mark (around 20 some posts) so in thinking that the fact that we don't have two many episodes left, instead of closing this down, instead leaving it open until the season finale. after those ratings come out this will be closed and a new one will be opened (At which time we will pick someone to do so). for discussions over the summer.

Though I do have a reminder for everyone please keep in mind the rules when it comes to the following, Ship discussions, clean debating if any is done, double posting, Chatting, and the picture rules.

Re: CSI Ratings versus Grey's Anatomy

CSI remains the #1 scripted show on TV for the season another week, came 6th overall in ratings, and fourth in audience numbers. Grey's Anatomy came 3rd overall in ratings and fifth in audience numbers.

CSI was beat by American Idol 1 and 2, Monday's Dancing With the Stars (which had 2 million fewer viewers), and Grey's Anatomy in ratings.

Both CSI and Grey's were beat by House in audience numbers, making them the second and third most-watched scripted shows.

In ratings, Grey's is the highest-rated scripted of the week, and CSI is the third-highest.

Does that make sense? lol.

This was a rough week, and I imagine this one will be worse for CSI, as they're going up against the Grey's two-parter.
