Enough - I started writing a fic about someone knocking on Nick's door and barging in and Nick fighting him at home. I was going to have a neighbor witness, etc. etc., then I thought of an ending and I ended up with Nick walking down Fremont Street. :lol: I do that a lot. Come up with an ending and then go from there.

I was nervous to write a story like this, because of having to describe the action. I'm so working on being more descriptive.

I was trying to write an ending to leave you hanging, but then Smokey was glad I didn't do that. :lol: Though that kind of was my plan. :lol:

However, I'm going to have to go with Nick surviving this one. Only because I could see him thinking 'I didn't mean to do it.' That would be so Nick.

Well, my story came to me after someone in the thread-either Smokey or speedy can't remember now-was suggesting ways to help those of us stuck on an idea. This person suggested Nick could be the neighbor that witnessing something and a light bulb went off.

I decided that the story wouldn't be about this thing that happens a few doors down. I wanted to focus on Nick and show that even when he wants to just sleep he can't cause he can't get away from the job. I did want to touch on "Stalker" just for a second so I made sure to mention Nick's spare gun.

First and foremost everyone's stories were fantastic, and as usual I guessed the wrong authors for every story, but my own. Great Job Everyone!:thumbsup:


How I came up with my story? Good question. I'd like to say some serious, emotional, spiritual inspiration hit, the words flowed, and the experience sent me on mystical journey...but that would be a lie.


Essentially, it all came down to the silly stick slapping me upside the head. I began reading the lyrics to the song and the first line made me laugh. Now I know this sounds crazy, given the seriousness of the lyrics, but let me explain. When I was a kid, and I did something I wasn't suppose to do, I'd always (and I mean always) said: “It was an accident, I didn't mean to, I didn't know.” After awhile this became a bit of a joke in the family. If my Mom said: “Kelli Ann why did you do that?” before I could answer, my dear big brother would say smugly, as only brothers can: “It was an accident, I didn't mean to, I didn't know.” To this day I get teased and tormented about this. All of that being said, I knew I had to write something funny, or at least what I hoped would be funny.


I thought about my brother teasing me, and how could I bring that into a Nick songfic, especially with the lyrics at hand, and then it hit me. Greg is the little brother Nick never had, they're brothers from a different mother, so to speak. Nick has teased and tormented Greg on the show numerous times, and Greg likes to push Nick's button from time to time. From that point on, it was a matter of setting the scene, and having fun. Can't wait for the next challenge.

Once again, great job by everyone! :) I think a lot of the writers who were "newer" to the process when we started have made great progress in their writing! And the "pros" have stretched their boundaries as well by going places with their work that maybe they wouldn't normally have gone without the inspiration here.

As for my story...I feel kind of silly that it was my song choice and yet I wasn't sure what to do with it. :lol: I guess I figured that most people would do a straight take on it (I was wrong!) and so I wanted to do something different.

I tried to write it tho so that maybe the reader at the beginning would think that was what happened...that the shooting he was being reviewed on was something that happened at his door, and then you find out that it wasn't but that something like that had happened a long time ago.

I was halfway through writing the story when I saw "Coup de Grace" and the whole time I was watching it I thought, "Nooooo!! It's too much like my story!" and I almost changed it. :) Glad I didn't tho.

Like I said in my own review of it, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the idea of Nick ever killing anyone, even by accident. And I've never been fond of making stuff up where the character is concerned. I like to stay as close to canon as I can. But anyway. :)

It was also a challenge to try to write another case story and stay within the word limit. I hope it sounded realistic tho. Man, it was hard to figure it out and make it work! :lol: And I'm glad I was able to create an original character and make you hate him as much as you were supposed to hate him. ;)

My idea was there since I watched For Warrick. The aerial view of Grissom and Nick standing around Warrick's dead body reminded me of elephants and so story was born and it stayed in my mind for months until the challenge and I thought it's time.

For Perspective, I started off with the idea that this would be a recurring nightmare, but I didn't want to torture Nick. I thought about a few different ways that the same scenario could happen - Nick hearing a story in interrogation or third party from someone else trying to play something out, etc. - but then I remembered Keppler talking to Catherine about one of his cases in the first person, and voila! Story. It was fun.

What's the next one?!!

Americanstalker, I got your song picks, thanks! :)

How this works is, the participants give their suggestions and they go on a list. Then one song from the list is picked at random for each round of the challenge until every participant has had a song picked. Then we will start the rotation over again.
