Egeria, I'm going to put mine on the board here (in its own thread of course) because there are many deleted scenes that I had to take out because the fic was too long. Unfortunately some of the more emotional parts of it had to be cut short. And I originally had a scene where Nick confronted Tawny, but I had to cut that too (although I'm not sure if I'll keep that out or not). I think after I cut out parts, my fic came to 2300 words or something along those lines (not including the title and the "the end" lol). It's over 4700 words in the full version. :lol:

Well let's see...my story, Still Smoldering, came from...I'm really not sure! :lol: I knew I wanted to do a child molestation story where Nick would get the kid to talk by sharing his experience. But it wasn't until I got into it that it just kind of flowed out...Nick not telling him at all, but the kid figuring it out. I felt like that worked really well with Nick figuring it out about the kid too.
Egeria asked about the Superman jacket. It was one of those details that I thought made it even sadder (like the Spiderman story)...the last little bit of innocence that the kid had left, and they wanted to take it away from him. Also, the fact that they wanted him to take his clothes off and his reaction...that kind of validated what Nick was suspecting already. So he didn't want to take it off, but also he wanted to hold onto what little he had left of his innocence.
And the ending...yeah, Nick is going to tell his mom. He couldn't very well push the kid to do it and be called out on it and then not have the courage to do ithimself as well. At least that's how I saw it.

My story is actually based on true events that happened here in Ontario within the last few years. I just rolled them into one story. I've long been interested in the folks who worked child porn cases and the emotional stress it takes on them. It's a very, very difficult field to work in.
Paul Gillespie is in fact a real person who headed up a special task force to take on the child porn industry. Here's a bio on him. He has since retired from the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force.
Paul Gillespie
A former Toronto Police Services Detective Sergeant, Paul Gillespie established himself as an expert investigator during his 27 year career, particularly when it comes to tracking criminals who use the internet to exploit children. Paul spent his last 5 ½ years building and leading the Child Exploitation Section of the Toronto Police Service to become world leaders in this area. In 2003, Paul sent an email to Bill Gates, the founder and Chairman of Microsoft, to solicit his support in stopping the exploitation of children on the internet. Gates responded to Paul’s passion and together law enforcement from around the world and Microsoft collaborated to create CETS – the Child Exploitation Tracking System – which is now widely regarded as the most advanced investigative tool available. CETS is now being used by over 35 different agencies in Canada and has been deployed in Indonesia, Italy, The United Kingdom, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Romania and Australia.
I figure if anyone would devote themselves to tracking down child porn makers it would be Nick Stokes.

I want to post my fic in full, but when I copy from MS Word and paste into a post window, there's weird coding... and when I copy from MS Word, paste into wordpad and then copy from there and post into a post window, the spacing is off and I have to go over the whole thing and fix the spacing. :lol: So, I'm not sure yet what I'm gonna do. Anyone got any suggestions? :lol:

I was going to say, try converting all of your text in your Word doc to just plain text with no odd sizes, font, bolding, etc. But I just copied and pasted several different types to this post from Word and it still worked for me.
BUT...I've had that happen before when I copied from a website or something, so it's probably still just styles and codes that the Talk board doesn't recognize. So I would still try making sure it's a plain font and all.
If that doesn't work, maybe post in the Fan Fiction Help thread. I'm sure this has happened to others when they tried to copy and paste.

The conflict between what Nick wants to do to help children and how it effects his life breaks my heart. You did an excellent job of portraying that conflict and Nick's motivation. I can totally see this kind of abuse being hard for Nick to compartmentalize and yet soemthing he can't turn away from.

Is it bad for me to say the Epilogue, which had next to no Nick in it was my favorite part? Ok favorite is the wrong word because you wrote it so well its really hard for me to read. But it moved me to tears.

I like the touches through out the story of Nick dealing with with the memories and flashbacks. It really emphasized the long term effects and significance of the event. Nicely done.
For the Children
Wow the way you write Nick made me cringe. But thats a good thing! You could feel the tension, the acidity at the thought of how those people hurt kids just rolling off of him.
