yeah, i read that - i'm glad he's ok! he's right about seatbelts too - is it not the law in the US?

 

I'm glad him and everyone else involved in that accident are ok and that he was wearing his seatbelt. Now about seatbelts and the law here in the USA. I think there are some states where it's up to the person. Here in Alabama and our neigboring state of Mississippi seatbelt use is mandatory. If they stop you for something else, like speeding, and you're not wearing your seatbelt, they'll add that to your ticket and your fine will go up. Don't know what the fine is for not wearing a seatbelt. Don't know what the fine for anything is cause I've never been fined. Honest.
Once a year here in Alabama and Mississippi they have Click It or Ticket. During Click It or Ticket they have random checkpoints set up throughout those 2 states. If you try to pass through one of those checkpoints without wearing your seatbelt, you get a ticket. I always try to remember to put my seatbelt on before I crank up. And because that Chevy Cavalier of mine has an annoying chime that will chime for about 1-2 minutes if you're not wearing your seatbelt when you crank up. That car has 3 chimes...lights left on chime which goes off when you open the driver's door, keys in the ignition chime which goes off when you open the driver's door and not wearing your seatbelt chime which goes off when you crank up. I can tell the 3 chimes apart. Lights on chime is fast tempo, keys in ignition chime is medium tempo, no seatbelt chime is slow tempo.

 

^ that's a pretty good idea. here in the uk it is definitely law, but i've never really seen any proactive enforcement beyond tv ads and stuff. oh and we also get the blinking light and buzzing noise if we're not belted up when the engine's on.

 

This ain't buzzing...this is chiming. Ding...Ding...Ding.

 

i think ours is a ding ding ding too, but all these noises sound like buzzing after a while!

 

Whoah! I'm glad to hear everyone's ok! And thanks Carolyn333 for the specifications about the laws on seatbelts. I really thought it was a law everywhere like here in Canada or UK.
