Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand
Wow, didn't know that
speed_cochrane No wonder Big Brother is such a fave epi around this thread
I think it's
Luce's favourite epi? Not totally sure.
Anyway, I've been looking forward to writing this since watching Double Cap on Friday. I'd hoped to do it yesterday but didn't have time. This was another great H episode, and it ties in nicely with what I said in an earlier post about why I find H such a joy to watch. He has many sides to his personality, and I think this episode in particular brings them all out. How?
Well, first thing is the way he picked up that something was bothering Calleigh. You can see that it puzzles him that she's asked him if she can take a break from work to run an errand, and it's obviously out of character to ask him for a bit of time off so sudden. You can see his concern as he pauses a moment after she leaves, before continuing his conversation with someone else.
Later on in the lab, he comes in to see Calleigh and the first thing he asks is whether everything is ok, and then goes on to say precisely the thing that might make her feel less down: 'Sometimes, having no family can be more difficult' (or something to that effect). His concern for his team allows those with any problems to try and focus back on the job, as demonstrated by his words to Calleigh in the lab.
Next, he is great with the little girl sat outside the diner drawing a picture - he shows interest in what she is doing, and puts a smile on her face by telling her that he will come back especially for her so she can draw a picture for him. Aww
Then, he is comforting to the victim's mother by reassuring her that he will catch whoever killed her daughter. Again, like any other time we have heard H say this, his tone and expression implies that he will hold to his promise, because he knows how important justice is to the victim's family and friends, and H's drive to achieve justice means the killer will be found and arrested. I also think his tone and expression are important in building a relationship with the audience here, as it makes the viewer have faith in H as a character that he will get to the bottom of the case, and I know that I definitely feel that from DC's wonderful acting during these moments, he is the man for cracking a case, no matter how big or small.
Finally, we see his tough attitude with the suspects that helps to narrow down the list. We see him get snappy with them to get the information he needs, and knows when to do this and how far to push them to get them to tell him what he wants to know. Again, his tone and facial expression are important, but for the different reason of appearing intimidating to the suspects.
I think that's all of them  Oh, and I must mention the scene with Yelina...heehee, I had such a big grin on my face in what I now call 'Giggle Scenes' (those with H and Y looking all awkward around each other). Oohh, this photocopying scenes was so cute, the way they looked at each other and smiled before Yelina says 'I'll see you at my desk'
