Have you ever dissected an animal? [like in biology class?]

4th grade science class - we dissected SHARKS. Dogfish. They were somewhere between 1 and 2 feet long.

7th grade Life Science - Frogs of course. My partner was a normally quiet kid who enjoyed stabbing and cutting far too much.

10th grade Biology - Haven't done it yet but we will dissect fetal pigs if we don't study forensics. We were doing notes on mitosis/meiosis when my teacher got a phone call. She answers it, hangs up, the excitedly exclaim's "THE FETAL PIGS ARE HERE!!!" I don't like dissection. It's gross. Especially since I have lunch RIGHT AFTER bio.

4. MY FAVORITE!! A rat!! :D It was wierd, 'cause they dyed the fur yellow for some reason, and there was blue stuff in it from when they killed it. But it was the greatest. I got a little carried away, and when we were done I tried to get the brain out, but ended up totally crushing the skull (and the brains were mashed). Lol...I just remember my teacher coming over and going, "WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!! What are you DOING!!???" lol...that was fun. And everyone was scared of me for the rest of the day

*cries* I couldnt do that....I have 4 pet rats  :p

Yeah, Selina, we did cats... and everyone freaked out, wondering how I could do it, because I'm a notorious cat-lover, and the one I was dissecting just happened to look EXACTLY like my cat. It was weird, but I'm science-minded like that, so I could detach myself, y'know?

Thanks for the welcome :D

What's dissecting a pig's heart like? cos i have to dissect one in biology in a couple of weeks. when i was doing physics, the other class had to cut them up, and we could all see loads of the class hiding outside, so they didn't have to do it

Oooh I forgot to mention a pigs heart! That was so good! It's not that gross, it just feels like a wet piece of meat of pork or even chicken. Oh, you might feel compelled to poke it with the poker all the time, I did.

It smells bad.. When we disected it someone in my class walked out (refused to do it)..I remember it being hard to start the incision..It was funny, we had 2 dissect them on Valentines day.

I used to have 2 pet rats too. Then i only had one and he was so great and smart! Now they both died so i just watch them for other ppl till i get another one! :D

My science teaher cam in with a live rat on his shoulder and said that we have to kill the rats ourselves before we have to disect it. And i said no way im not doing it if i have to kill it. Sorry i'm a animal lover! But he was only kidding with us, so they were already dead, luckily!

 :eek:That was very mean of him!!!

I'm so glade, that our rats were already dead when we dissected them.

I had rats once, too, and thei are really smart animals.
Ok, not everyone may like their tail, but it didn't disturb me.
One of them was even watching TV with me in the evening.
She was sitting on my shoulder, and watched the movements on tv.
It was so funny.

Baha...I find that amusnig since I've eaten hearts! :p(Cow's and Deer's) They taste..."organy"...which is the only way you can really describe it! :D

*pokes Agertays* See I'm here :p

my list:
a fish on 7th grade
then on 9th grade
cows eyes, lungs, heart and liver.
It was fun, especially heart

tell me about it... i'm studying to be a biology major so it's not really a big deal.. but it was really disorienting the first time i did it.. and the smell of formalin kills.. it rises up the nose and it like freezes your brain..
and it's hard to study the anatomy when you're fighting the urge to throw up..

peace_out
